I think I have found a flaw in OSX 10.6.4 file copying..I normall back up my files, by dragging from a folder on my HD to an identical folder on my external HD.The folder I am copying has 86 files in it, but there are only about two dozen new files added since my last back up.I have been telling it by the dialogue box, not to replace identical files in the back up folder, and clicking the check box to apply to all."but when I press the dont copy button, in the copy progress box it says it is copying 86 files. WTF is going on...!@#$%^&*().

I have an iMac and a MacBook. My brother is getting a MacBook Pro for University and wants to be able to use the programs (Photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc.) on our iMac from time to time. The problem is the school gave him no install discs, they just copied a disc image to his drive.
My question is, can you just copy applications from one computer to another? I know in Windows this was impossible, but on a Mac the applications seem to be more self-contained. I did copy one app successfully (Comic Life) but will doing the same work for all apps?
Put simply, I am looking for a CloneCD equivalent to the mac.
More specifically, I am looking for a program that will copy and/or create disk images (either iso or dmg) of CD-roms or DVD-roms with copy protection on them. Obviously, trying to do this with disk utility or the wonderful open-source disc burning utility "Mac OS X Burn", which does almost everything else, will fail.
I have a couple of games (some of them are on CD-rom, others are on DVD-rom, and I am sure they have copy protection.) and I want to copy them onto my HDD as some form of a disc image file so I can just mount them when playing the game.
P.S. Please don't bring up legal issues. I bough these games and I am just copying them onto my HDD to play myself while saving some battery power on my laptop. It's not illegal, and more importantly, even if it was, it doensn't matter because I don't find it morally incorrect.
I find it hard to believe that a programs whose disk image is only 3.15 MB can do what they are claiming and only for $20. "The DVD copy for Mac is able to copy DVD to DVD, backup or burn the entire movie from DVD to DVD. It can even remove DVD protections such as CSS, RC and RCE. outputs complete DVD folders, and directly burns DVD movies to new DVD discs with no protections. Therefore, you can choose to save DVD folder on your computer or directly burn DVD to a blank DVD disc." [URL]
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have my iTunes on my MBP but want to be able to copy it to my Mac Pro. I copied the folder on my local directory/Music/iTunes. It contains many folders such as iTunes Library, iTunes Music Library.xml, etc. I copied that entire folder to my Mac Pro in the same location, local directory/Music/iTunes.
I then opened iTunes. All of my music was there but one issue I have is with Podcasts. I subscribe to many of them but have some set up to only keep one at a time, others to keep all podcasts that I have not listened to, etc. The problem is it just simply downloads all podcasts, not deleting any. It seems some of my preferences aren't being copied. Is there another location that I have to copy some type of prefs from?

Would booting to CCC on my external drive, erasing the hard drive through Utilities and then copying the CCC disk image back to the hard drive resolve the problem or just repeat it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn preferences for iTunes and iPhoto you have the option to copy items to the applications or not when importing. Obviously if you copy them when importing then you will take up more hard drive space since you will now have the items in two locations.
Is there an advantage to copying items instead of not? I did have it set up to copy items (defaults that way) but would prefer to save hard drive space.
Whats are your preferences and why?
I brought Capitalism: it includes a digital copy but it will not show up in iTunes and will not start to download as other digital copies have done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat is the advantage of having iPhoto importing and copying all pictures into the iPhoto library file ("copy items to the iPhoto Library")? Is there any reason why that would be better than managing the picture folder structure manually and just having a reference to the pictures?
I think iTunes has the same feature and offers to import/copy the music files into its library.
I plan to get my first Mac next month and wonder if I should enable this "copy items to the iPhoto Library" when moving my 50k pictures from Windows to the Mac or if that's not a good idea...

having spend days reading various iTunes HowTo's and guides, I still do not know how to accomplish this: My family's CD collection comprises about 700 discs. All of them are in my Mac's 240GB iTunes library as Apple Lossless files. My dad uses a PC (urgh) and wants to have all of the songs on his hard drive, too, to be able to sync them with his iPod. His iPod, however, only has a capacity of 120GB and he has got a 160GB external hard drive for the music files, which is why I cannot simply copy my Lossless library to his PC.
So the callenge is not move the entire library, there are tons of guides to do this. Instead, I want to convert the music to AAC on my Mac first and then only move these files to his PC's external drive via network. As I have put a lot of effort into my Lossless library, I do not want to take any risks (however, I do have a time machine backup).
My thoughts:....................
Is there a way to transfer applications from one mac to another? The Adobe CS4 suite is really what I'm trying to copy over.

I want to copy all my Firefox bookmarks over to Safari.
When I go to do this Safari wants me to goto where the Firefox bookmarks are stored.
Can anybody point me in the right direction please ?
I am a music freak so, as many of you may understand, I spent a lot of time with cds, vinyls, itunes and all the beautiful things involving these stuff.
The problem is that:
I want to create a perfect copy of my cds. I use XLD and I encode my cds into .WAV a single .WAV file with it's .CUE. However, when I burn these .WAV files to an audio cd, there is a tiny problem. When I switch to the next song for example from track 1 to track 2 or from 3 to 4 etc track 2 starts a second lets say after it should be (like in the original cd). However, if you hear the whole cd, it sounds perfectly there are no stops between songs etc.
The procedure I follow is this:
1. Open XLD
2. Encode the cd into .WAV as a single file with .CUE
3. Open .CUE file with text edit, and I change the FILE "01 Unknown Artist - Unknown Title.wav" WAVE to FILE "01 Unknown Artist - Unknown Title.bin" BINARY
4. Open Toast
5. I drag the .CUE file there
6. Burn
When I copy a hyperlink (text with URL link) in Safari to Mail, it keeps the URL link. But when I copy it to iChat, I lose the URL link.
