Applications :: Finding MacHeist - VectorDesigner Serial?
Jan 25, 2008Has anybody who bought a MacHeist bundle received the serial number for VectorDesigner? Mine still says it will appear in 48 hours. and it's been more than that since I purchased it. If everybody is in the same boat, that's OK, but if I am one of the few, I should send an email.

Mar 6, 2009I'm starting my career in networking configuration (basically configuring routers & switches) and need advice on a good serial terminal app. Since Terminal that ships w/ Mac OS X doesn't deal w/ serial ports, I've had to resort to using apps like Zterm & QuickTerm. Both of those haven't been updated in years, and they don't really have a "Mac OS X"-ey GUI goodness about them.

Apr 23, 2009Thought that I would ask the collective minds at macrumors. I have been playing around with all of the databasing, collection, sorting apps that I could find.
Goal:
Main goal is a central repository for All of my documents (PDF's, word files, txt files, notes/receipts etc...), all with a user interface so that I may browse my documents.
Problem:
The problem I am having is that none of the apps i have found have everything I need. Now if i could put 2 or three apps coding into one, then I'd have a winner
Needs:
� Tagging system (Devonthink Pro is not functioning)
� Accessible file structure (no sparse bundles etc...), so that I may access my files via drop box if away from my computer, without the actual program.
� Smart Folders As Subfolders WITH Tagging. An example would be to make 3 Nested smart folders ( Personal Folder / School Folder / Math Folder) Now if I dropped a File on the Math Folder Tags would be added to the file to satisfy the entire Folder structure. Please let me know if this needs further explanation.
Wants:
� Shelf would be nice. Devonthink has one that operates as a separate app than the actual program, Together has one, but only when the program is active.
� Decent search ability, but I would think this is easily done utilizing spotlights abilities. I am already manually OCR'ing my PDF's with Acrobat.
I think i mentioned most things, but am sure i missed out on a few points. The best implementation of what I want is a mix of Journler, Together, and DevonThink Pro. Journler nails the tagging, and nested folders perfectly. But does not have a file structure that is usable without the program. DevonThink fales with both nested folders and lack of tagging. I have settled on Together for now, as it works with the file structure I want, and supports tagging. Just does not have smart tagging.

Jul 18, 2009just a quick question. On the new uMBP is there anyway to find the serial number with out booting the machine? On the older styles they use to be under the battery where you removed the screws to get to the ram. All the photos I could find doesn't really show the bottom that well.

Aug 23, 2010I was just thinking about the stuff I have on my HD, and I'm not really sure what is eating up the 500gb HD I have installed in it (with only 50gb or so available at the moment). The usual culprits (iTunes and iPhoto library) are both on externals.
And i don't *think* I've got nearly 450gb worth of audio work on here.
So my question is, is there an application that will scan through my system HD and tell me which olders/files are taking up the most space? This may give me some idea of what I should start getting rid of.

Nov 18, 2009I recently purchased an upgrade download for windows 7 online. i ended up buying windows 7 professional but now realize it's not eligible for an upgrade from windows vista home basic, only custom install. My question is, if i were to obtain a copy of the windows 7 home upgrade instead of pro, can i use the serial number i purchased for windows 7 professional on a win7 home install, or are they specific to version?

Sep 1, 2010I have a MacBook Pro (MacBookPro5,3) and a Via Epia based Gentoo Linux Box (motherboard: MB Jetway J7F4K1G5S A 1500MHz Mini-ITX ) and I would like to be able to administer it using a serial console (if -for example- ssh etc fails) as I don't have a monitor and / or keyboard.
In order to do so, I ordered an USB to Serial DB9 (male) cable from eBay [URL] which uses the PL-2303 chipset. I used the 64bit driver from github to get the cable working on Snow Leopard.
In order to connect the cable to the COM1 port of my Linux box (which is also male), I used a 9 Pin Female Serial RS232 Gender Changer Adapter as seen here: [URL] and I have setup my Gentoo Linux box to enable the console by adding "s0:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 115200 ttyS0 vt102" to /etc/inittab and ttyS0 to /etc/ttysecurity.
After reboot (or issuing 'init q') the serial console should work, however I am unable to connect to it from my MacBook Pro.
