MacBook Pro :: Using Time Machine On External Hard Drive/Time Machine Error Code - 43
Aug 23, 2010I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?
OS X :: Time Machine Code (Error - 43)
Oct 27, 2007I plugged in my external HD last night and was told I'd have to format. I moved all my data over to a larger disk during the night so as to clear it for this. I woke up this morning, did a spotlight search for Time Machine and got "An unexpected error occurred (Error Code -43). I then, in my half asleep state, thought that I'd just uninstall TM. I have this app called AppDelete, which did the trick. Now I realise that TM is in system prefs and appears to be working.
Firstly, has anyone else gotten this error, and secondly, is there any way to get back whatever it was I deleted earlier? Maybe by using the install disk. I looked at it earlier and didn't see any options.
I noticed that the TM "app" in the Applications folder was only a few hundred kbs so I may not have done much damage. Doesn't anyone know what that part is? Is it just a frontend or what?

Nov 7, 2010I have recently put together a site in iWeb, hosted on .Mac. I realize there are other tools out there and other hosting options that are may have more features and be cheaper, but I really have been enjoying the ease of putting this thing together and changing it on the fly, so I'm happy to stick with the setup for now. That said, I would like to have certain .Mac features enabled, mostly the comments for podcast and photos. However, when I insert Google Analytics code, it seems to take away the comments feature.
I am using an Automator script to put the Google Analytics script in each of my iWeb pages after I publish to .Mac. I'm assuming that this might be overwriting or otherwise interfering with a script needed to activate the .Mac comments? Could anyone help me out, maybe tell me what I need to do with the Automator script so that it can insert the Analytics stuff without interfering with the .Mac stuff? By the way, I'm using the site as kind of a self-promotion while I'm looking for a job, which is why I want the Google Analytics stuff in there -- need to see who, if anyone, is checking the pages out!

Jul 7, 2008I have been using the Textmate demo for a few days and I like it's code folding and macros, but I wish it had an auto- autocomplete and tabs. I tried Komodo edit too and loved it's features; however it has the clunkiest Interface of any editor. I have never been a Dreamweaver fan, but if it has macros I will shut up and use it. I think I am, going to email the developer of Textmate later, because it really is a very nice editor, but it is lacking some needed features.

There are programs that generate QR Codes, but I am looking for one that does specifically reading. It can do both, or any combination, but the reading must be included. I preliminary Google search brings me close, a lot of possibilities (mostly in Japanese, which i do not read). But ultimately I have found nothing. I was hoping someone could direct me towards program.

Jan 27, 2010I have my library on my iMac running Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09. I want to copy it to my MacBook Pro running the same. Whenever I try to copy it over, I get the following error after it copies a few MB worth:
The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "iPhoto Library" can't be read or written. (Error code -36)
I have found a similar problem online that someone was having, but it was error code -30, and they didn't have a fix.

Feb 23, 2009I know that VisualHub is no more, but I still use it to transcode stuff for my Apple TV. I have an mkv file with embedded subtitles (not hard coded) which I can turn on or off in VLC, however I want to hard code them into the movie, so I go through the transcoding process and it ignores the subtitles. Does anyone know how I can get VisualHub to hard code the subs on the output movie? As I'm probably barking up the wrong tree now VisualHub is no longer, could someone point me in the right direction of an easy way to do this? I'd rather not use Handbrake as I don't get as good results (dropped frames, and choppy video) as I do when I use VH.

So since then I've been using some default screensavers and looking for a replacement.
What I want is a black background with scrolling text. Sadly, there are too many wunnabe 1337 kids that fell in love with escaping to the Matrix where the junior high bullies can't hurt them so all Google results yield ching-chonganese text falling. What I really want is a screensaver that looks like it's running a command line level operation.

Aug 7, 2009Just wanted to know if the method I used to delete some back ups were save. What I did was just drag two back ups that I didn't need anymore into my trash, held option and clicked delete. I am asking this because I came across this video saying if I used this method, I would be "screwed" [URL]. Is the method I used safe, or did it some how mess up my TM or leave left over data?

Dec 7, 2008I'm trying to make an iTunes Store account with my mother's MasterCard. Everything in the setup process goes well until I hit the part when I must enter in my three-digit security code. I do so, then proceed. iTunes won't proceed because it appears I have not entered a valid security code. But the problem is, it is in fact valid: I've used it before for other things and it works fine. I've triple-checked; it's kinda hard to incorrectly type a three-digit number.

May 26, 2009I tried to use Final Cut Express Hd for the first time. I have a bunch of .mp4 files created with a Flip Mino HD camera (H264). I tried to import them in FCE, but I always get the UNRENDERED message on the Canvas window when I try to play it on the timeline. Nov 6, 2009I recently installed Final Cut Pro v5.1.4 on my intel MacBook Pro but when I clicked on the mpkg file to install I was given a message telling me that Rosetta needs to be installed to open the Final Cut Pro.mpkg file.
I downloaded and installed Rosetta then Final Cut Pro v5.1.4. What is bugging me is that if Final Cut Pro v5.1.4 is now intel supported why did it ask me to install Rosetta to open the Final Cut Pro.mpkg file? When I use Final Cut Pro v5.1.4 does it still run under PPC emulation through Rosetta even though I have read that it is now intel supported?
I would buy the Final Cut Studio 7 but I am a bit short of cash at the moment and was needing videos edited for a friend.

I have about 10-15 hours experience with Final Cut Express through a class at school so I have a decent idea of how to use it, but mainly just basically. The list for it is $199. Now, I am wondering if this is a good video editing software to make a real professional video (mainly action ones, MX, but could be anything) as I have not really explored what I can do with it. How advanced is FCE compared to FCP, listed at $1199? Why is FCP $1000 more, and is this worth it? I'm obviously not looking to make a hollywood movie, but even though right now I have limited knowledge with FC, I would like to build on this and become really good with it. Will I soon exhaust FCE's features like I did after one use of iMovie? Or will FCE last me for several years with upgrades as seen fit?
