I have purchased final cut pro 3 and it won't install!! i keep getting this error:
the installer could not install some files in "/"
I have searched about and done the disk utility permissions check thingy and it's all cool. But it still won't go in!
i have final cut express 4 and i noticed that there was 2 stickers with serial numbers,can i installl it on 2 computers.and i have not registered yet does that make a difference.

This is my third attempt, after restarting and then shutting down and resetting PRAM, and the install keeps getting hung up on "Running package scripts..."
Installer is responsive, it's just getting stuck for some reason.
Anyone else having this issue?
I am installing Final Cut Express and it has been stuck at the "Preparing to Install" screen for about 30 minutes now.

I just bought the newest 13 inch MacBook Pro. I've read over all my specs and stuff it looks to be compatible with my macbook but every time I try to install it as a trial it just comes back with a message "unable to recognize" so does that mean its not compatible?

I am trying to get FCP6 to work on a couple of old laptops..One had no firewire port and the other was just old.I need to edit on a boat and was going to do so on the older laptops but it was just to time consuming. So I bought a 2012 mackbook pro. It was that or a 2010. I wanted to get something just a bit newer to last a few more years so I got the 2010 (Serial # CO2HMDYSDV33). It solves my firewire problem, and also has thunderbolt. I want to install FCP6.0.6 The Mackbook Pro has a fresh install of Mavericks. I have read that I cannot install Snow Leopard on this machine, so I am assuming that my only choice is Lion. I actually naively installed a Snow Leopard Disc.
So my research has told me that I can run FCP6 on lion after performing a few tricks. I just need to learn those tricks.
1. How do I install Lion on the Laptop. I have learned it is a download. Do I reformat the hard drive and then install it from another drive, or maybe another computer. It used to be so easy.
2. How to install FCP6 on Lion.
Can anyone tell me what the final install size will be for Windows 7 Home Premium after installing it in Bootcamp and downloading all the windows updates? I am trying to figure out how big I want to size my initial bootcamp partition.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased and received a new 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) last week. I need to install Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer. I have researched this and found that I need to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD in order to do this. This is the first Mac I've bought ( although I've been working with them for years), so I don't have a Snow Leopard DVD. I am a high school teacher and we use FCS 2 for my classes so buying FCP X is not a viable option for me since I teach FCP 6. The iMacs we use in school run Leopard and were never upgraded to Snow Leopard (budget cuts and all), so I can't even borrow one from my district.

Because of the many problems I heard about using FCS3 with Snow Leopard when they both first came out, I've held off upgrading my OS from 10.5.8. Now that some time has passed, is it safe to install Snow Leopard without worrying about freezes and crashes with using Final Cut Studio 3? Also, have most of the 3d party software developers updated their apps for 10.6? I'd like to install Snow Leopard for my other apps but not at the expense of FCS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to use Final Cut Express Hd for the first time. I have a bunch of .mp4 files created with a Flip Mino HD camera (H264). I tried to import them in FCE, but I always get the UNRENDERED message on the Canvas window when I try to play it on the timeline. I know has something to do with the settings I put on the "Easy Setup" thing, but I tried everything and it's not working. How can I solve this? And what is the best way to work with those kind of HD files?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Final Cut Pro v5.1.4 on my intel MacBook Pro but when I clicked on the mpkg file to install I was given a message telling me that Rosetta needs to be installed to open the Final Cut Pro.mpkg file.
I downloaded and installed Rosetta then Final Cut Pro v5.1.4. What is bugging me is that if Final Cut Pro v5.1.4 is now intel supported why did it ask me to install Rosetta to open the Final Cut Pro.mpkg file? When I use Final Cut Pro v5.1.4 does it still run under PPC emulation through Rosetta even though I have read that it is now intel supported?
I would buy the Final Cut Studio 7 but I am a bit short of cash at the moment and was needing videos edited for a friend.
I have a quick question regarding Final Cut Express and Pro. I have about 10-15 hours experience with Final Cut Express through a class at school so I have a decent idea of how to use it, but mainly just basically. The list for it is $199. Now, I am wondering if this is a good video editing software to make a real professional video (mainly action ones, MX, but could be anything) as I have not really explored what I can do with it. How advanced is FCE compared to FCP, listed at $1199? Why is FCP $1000 more, and is this worth it? I'm obviously not looking to make a hollywood movie, but even though right now I have limited knowledge with FC, I would like to build on this and become really good with it. Will I soon exhaust FCE's features like I did after one use of iMovie? Or will FCE last me for several years with upgrades as seen fit?

I'm close to approaching graduate school, majoring in film directing, and was told that the school i want to go to use Final Cut Pro as their default video editing program. It'd be nice to use their computers but i would like the entire suite on my mac but not sure if my macbook would run it well. What's the best specs to make FCS run very well on a mac? I was planning on getting either the low end iMac 21inch or the lower end macbook 15.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using FCP for quite a while now and just recently when I was trying to exporting a SD movie I got the message, "Error: Out of Memory".
Thinking I maybe had to many programs open I restarted the computer. That didn't work, so I shut down again and reset the memory.
Since that didn't work either, I transferred the files to second compute, but got the same message. Finally tracking the problem down I removed the effect "Line Art" and was able to export.
But I would really like to have the effect on the clip, any ideas on what is going on here?
Aghh, i am so annoyed that i have to render everytime i make little changes i have to render the whole video project. I know there is a way i can render it once and just once. I heard of a program called MPEG StreamClip, but it did not work for me. The instructions i fallowed where: Open video, and drag it to MPEG STREAMCLIP. Export to Quicktime these are the settings i used....

According to the person who provided the instructions, i was only suppose to mess with the settings highlighted in the screen shot. Sadly, this did not help, i still have to render. Does anyone else do it differently?
I'm currently having to give myself a 24hr crash course in FCE. One of the things I'm up against at the moment is the process of creating a sub-clip. I was half expecting to:
Import video into the bin.
Double click the footage to transfer it into the play head
Set in and out points with the I/O markers under the play head
Click on the actual video and drag it back to the bin to create a sub-clip
When I drag the video back into the bin all I appear to get is another copy of the original master clip. No recognition of the in and out points.
I've been getting this error since last night when I try to render: Error: Out of Memory. Last night, I also installed a new 500 GB Harddrive and upgraded from Os x 10.4.11 to the Newest Snow Leopard, with iLife and iWork. I've looked at my computer's activity monitor, and there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary taking up all my memory. It could be possible I don't know what to look for too. I'm working on finishing an animation with a deadline, and without rendering.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a copy of the Waves audio plugins into Final Cut Pro 5 to try them out, but no longer want them... and I'm having trouble getting rid of them completely. I deleted the actual Waves plugins folder and the Waves preferences (and everything else spotlight found that had to do with them)... but still when I open FCP it asks me where the Waves plugins had gone. The problem is, I get an error message like this for every single plugin and I have to hit OK on each one. So now whenever I open FCP I have to close about 20 error messages before it finishes loading.
I just finished deleting the entire Final Cut Studio and all associated preference files and re-installing the entire thing�but the damn thing still asks where the Waves plugins are when I open it! Does anyone know where I can delete the file that's telling FCP to look for these plugins?

View 1 Replies View Relatedive got a Sony HVR-V1E/V1P its a HDV 1080i camera which uses mini DV tapes for ages now ive been trying to capture media into FCE and it hasnt been working it can never recognize the capture device. I found an I.Link convert setting and set it to on so now it converts it into DV when it captures, and at last the device is recognised and i can play it on the computer etc. When i try to capture it though, after around 2 seconds it says: "Dropped Frames were detected during the last capture attempt" , better yet, can anyone help me get this thing to import at proper HDV? Edit: I went into the settings and disabled the option saying "abort capture on dropped frames" Now it captures about 3 seconds and says: "Capture encountered a problem reading data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your project has been saved"

I'm not sure if i'm missing something here. the installation went fine with a reboot. I tried re installing which also seemed like it happened without any problems but no traces of motion.
i have no clue where it is, unless it changed it's name and is hiding somwhere.
I need to reinstall FCP Studio 2 to repair a messed up Compressor app. How go I go about uninstalling such a large program? There are preference panes and plists and various programs. Should I use an app like app delete or is there another way?

So, with that in mind I would like to understand which of the apps listed in the title I should go with (iMovie, FCE, FCP). All I want to do is edit movies of my kids for burning to blu-ray (i know i have to use toast 10 for this). I would like: nice transitions (but mostly will just use fade in/out and wipe), a few titles at the beginning and sub titles now and then, the ability to use mp3 files as background music and mix the video soundtrack with the music soundtrack, ability to create chapters in both dvd and blu-ray Which software would be best for me? Also, do i need anything in addition to toast 10 and the above editing software to be able to author blu-rays with chapters and nice backgrounds to the menu/index bit of the disc?
