I just switched from windows to mac. So far its been good till i tried iPhoto.
I like to organize my collections of photos. I HATE how iPhoto reorganize the whole stuff on its own. And I think the file sizes of the photos are different. ANYWAY, What I want to know is:::Is there any other application that is similar to windows photo gallery in mac?
I need to get an image from a photo gallery on a DVD.I only need one. It is for a school project that my niece is doing.Is there any program to do it for free. because I'll never need it again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for web photo gallery software that will automate the creation of a web site. I searched the web, and could find anything that worked right. I tried the Photoshop option for this, but it does not make a nested site.I wanted to try the Dreamweaver option for this, but it is not available in CS6 now. I simply want to be able to drag a series of folders (full of images) into an empty home page, and have the software make an index.htm home page that contains links (using the folder names) to other new automatically created pages, which the software makes using the folder names, and which contain links to the images in those folders. Yes, I can build such a thing manually, but I want an automated way to do it, since I will have to do it again and again with different folder sets.Â

I hate iPhoto--it is way too restrictive, restructures my files, copies my files without asking me/etc..so I want to avoid using something like that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to mac and have previously tightly managed my life with Outlook's tasks, calendar, and all importantly its categories. I have got a beta version of Plaxo syncing my Windows machine to my Mac so that I have my tasks as to-dos in iCal but the functionality is not hardly as extensive as in Outlook on Windows. Can someone suggest an application I can use that is somewhat similar to Outlook's task management, whereby I can categorise tasks? I tried a work-around, by instead of using categories in Outlook, I create separate task data files, and although that 'categorises' the to-dos on the Mac it is hardly as neat as on Outlook and I am left with a mess.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed and deleted quite a few programs off my MBP so far and I'm curious if there is a function/utility similar to Windows Disk Defrag on a Mac? In the event that there are some files I forgot to delete, I just wanted to make sure I got rid of all the files and not have old uninstalled program data hogging up space on my hard drive. I'm still in a Windows state of mind since I just recently purchased my MBP so I'm not sure if the MBP will automatically remove all the files once a program is deleted or if some residual program files still remain even after I delete a program.

From what I read iPhoto (Or Picasa for Mac?) will let me organise stuff perfectly fine but is a little basic for editing, Photoshop is WAY too expensive.
Which leaves what other options? I have PaintshopPro (old version, 7) on Windows, AFAICS its not available on Mac, Irfanview(free) which is excellent for basics like resizing (I presume iPhoto handles this?), and DCEnhance which is also free and does some automagic type changes to bring more detail out of shadows or put it back into highlights - any equivalents, either for free or pay?
Looks like Aperture might do the business, is that the 'tool of choice' for people who dont want to pay or have the large learning curve for Photoshop?
I am looking for a easy no fuss way to add some cool effects to photos, whats out there, photoshops too complicated at the minute, picturesque is ok but a bit too basic, I am looking for something with lots of cool effects.

I've got a few vids that I shot while on my honeymoon in a gallery of pics in iPhoto and they seem to be taking FOREVER to upload to my mobileme galleries.
editing my iWeb page and the "mobileme gallery" widget isn't loading onto the page. It says that I can't display any albums or movies. I've read that it's because either I'm not connected to the internet (not true) or that I don't have any albums published to mobileme. This isn't true because I do have albums that are published. Does anyone have the same problem and know how to get it to work?

Am I the only one who was expecting a bit more selection, especially given the additional wait time after the launch of Safari 5? How does Apple expect Safari 5 to compete with Firefox when it has so few (approved) extensions? Since the launch of the extensions gallery, I haven't seen much change in the available offerings, even though there is still a wealth of non-approved extensions out there. So what gives? Is it a lack of developers? Is Apple being too stringent in its method of approving extensions?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI don't want just anyone to have immediate access to my gallery via my iWeb site. Ideally I'd like my entire Mobile Me gallery to be password protected. I had a look at password protecting individual albums but that's just a horrible implementation, each album just comes up as a grey thumbnail in the albums view even if you enter login details. I thought an alternative (although far less secure) would be to have the link to the mobile me gallery on a password protected iWeb page as part of my iWeb site but I can't find any options to let me password protect just one page.
Am I right in assuming that Web Gallery only supports password protecting of individual items whereas Apple have gone the opposite route with iWeb where you can only password protect your entire site? If that's the case then it seems like they're really trying to make things hard for us!
I'm looking for a good application to use in my small business for screen sharing and conference meetings. I use the feature that Skype have brought out extensively, but there are times that I need to share my desktop with multiple viewers and often in environments where Skype is prohibited.
I have found several free applications out there that look promising, I just thought I would ask advice on here first to see if anyone here knows this software and if there are any recommendations - both free and paid software.
I am a fairly new Mac user after using Windows PCs for many decades so please bear with me on this. I purchased a new unibody MacBook Pro a few months ago and everything works as advertised except for one thing. If I am looking at myself in photo booth the video is fine. However, if I open any other application---browser, iwork, iphoto, anything my picture on photo booth freezes. The picture unfreezes and returns to normal video as soon as I close the other application. I bought a MacBook Pro for my 14 year old last Summer and it has the same problem which leads me to believe there must be some tweak or some fairly obvious fix that I am overlooking. Because of this issue neither laptop can be used for video chat--just won't work.
I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone might be able to offer. Both MacBook Pros are fully updated and both are 15" screens. If I change user accounts the same problem occurs. I spoke with AppleCare and after trying a few things they said I would have to take the machine to an Apple Store but I am hoping to avoid this if possible. Spoke on the phone with one of the "geniuses" at the local Apple Store and he said he had never heard of this issue which seems strange since it occurs on both of our Macs---unlikely coincidence.
When I try to open Photo Booth, I get the following message:
"Photo Booth cannot open because the camera is in use by another application."
There are no other applications running. I've restarted the computer, repaired permissions, reset the PRAM, and re-installed Photo Booth from the original disk. I also tried running Photo Booth from the Guest account. None of these actions have worked. I have an Intel iMac (20"), running OS 10.4.11 (Tiger).
My Photo Booth application was acting very weird so I called Apple support and they told me Photo Booth was "broken" and the only way to fix it is to Archive and Install Leopard. I really don't want to go through all this trouble. So I was wondering if it would be possible to just wait for Snow Leopard to come out and then install Snow Leopard? Will Snow Leopard reinstall all my applications or will it just upgrade the OS, leaving the applications alone?
