I am looking for a easy no fuss way to add some cool effects to photos, whats out there, photoshops too complicated at the minute, picturesque is ok but a bit too basic, I am looking for something with lots of cool effects.
View 7 RepliesSo, my photo booth booth effects are not working. They were working perfectly fine before, but now comic book, color pencil and pop art aren't the same. Any figure that its photographing looks black and comes out black. Theres no shading.

Photo Booth works fine with the first couple pages of effects but once I choose another page of effects (towards the end usually) Photo Booth freezes. I already repaired permissions and I have restarted my computer more than once (for other reasons) since this has started happening. I forget if this started happening before I installed Snow Leopard or after.

Can somebody direct me to a good tutorial of how to install .qtz effects for iChat(Leopard)/Photo Booth? I got one installed by dragging it into /Library/Compositions, but when I drag another into it, it overrides the previous one. I did a little searching and found nothing.

The reason why it's a dick head move was because I didn't realize that the effects was for photo booth 2.1.1 and I'm running 3.0.2. Now my default effect quality is terrible and you cant hardly take a "good" picture. Is there any way I can remove the new effects and get my regular back to the way it is suppose to be?

An example of one would be Cartoonize Me for the iPhone and iPod Touch by Portegno Apps; I'd like one for the computer. Being the picky person I am, I'd really like it to be free and for Mac OS X (10.5.5 is my OS). It'd be fine if it's an online or download, as long as it gets the job done.

I have downloaded loads of new effects for photo booth and then was looking for some more and the single qtz files which are placed in the Library/Compositions folder show up as a grey screen (see attachment) in the preview but are fine when you click on them. So does anyone know how I can get the preview of these to show up, or even to paste a picture in the box?! Also, does anyone know where I can download some single qtz files to add to photo booth as well?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got my new Macbook Air today, and I downloaded some effects off of Apple and then also some from Cateye. But for some of the rainbow-y colored ones, the picture turns out inverted? This includes: Magicball, Coloido, Christmas, Tryptamine, Retro: Trippy, Retro: Rainbow Tee (my favorite!), Ocean, City Lights, etc. At first I thought this was a problem from the site I downloaded it from, but then I downloaded two sets from two different sites and both sets have effecs with this weird inverted-glitch.

I hate iPhoto--it is way too restrictive, restructures my files, copies my files without asking me/etc..so I want to avoid using something like that.

I am a fairly new Mac user after using Windows PCs for many decades so please bear with me on this. I purchased a new unibody MacBook Pro a few months ago and everything works as advertised except for one thing. If I am looking at myself in photo booth the video is fine. However, if I open any other application---browser, iwork, iphoto, anything my picture on photo booth freezes. The picture unfreezes and returns to normal video as soon as I close the other application. I bought a MacBook Pro for my 14 year old last Summer and it has the same problem which leads me to believe there must be some tweak or some fairly obvious fix that I am overlooking. Because of this issue neither laptop can be used for video chat--just won't work.
I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone might be able to offer. Both MacBook Pros are fully updated and both are 15" screens. If I change user accounts the same problem occurs. I spoke with AppleCare and after trying a few things they said I would have to take the machine to an Apple Store but I am hoping to avoid this if possible. Spoke on the phone with one of the "geniuses" at the local Apple Store and he said he had never heard of this issue which seems strange since it occurs on both of our Macs---unlikely coincidence.
When I try to open Photo Booth, I get the following message:
"Photo Booth cannot open because the camera is in use by another application."
There are no other applications running. I've restarted the computer, repaired permissions, reset the PRAM, and re-installed Photo Booth from the original disk. I also tried running Photo Booth from the Guest account. None of these actions have worked. I have an Intel iMac (20"), running OS 10.4.11 (Tiger).
My Photo Booth application was acting very weird so I called Apple support and they told me Photo Booth was "broken" and the only way to fix it is to Archive and Install Leopard. I really don't want to go through all this trouble. So I was wondering if it would be possible to just wait for Snow Leopard to come out and then install Snow Leopard? Will Snow Leopard reinstall all my applications or will it just upgrade the OS, leaving the applications alone?

Up until yesterday, I had 8gb of RAM in my iMac; two 2gb sticks stock from Apple, and two 2gb cards that I added. With this current configuration, I would have an average temperature of 54 degrees, and never was really higher than 65 degrees. Last night, I removed all four sticks, and I went with four 4gb sticks. Ive noticed now with the 16gb of RAM, my temperature has been from 34-36 degrees. The iMac is faster on wake up as well. I never read anywhere that RAM cools a system down. Is that the case here? I noticed that I had the two stock Apple sticks on one side, and the two new ones on the other side prior to me upgrading to 16gb. Would that be an issue as well?

How do I set my computer to open PSE when I insert my memory card or when I plug in my iPhone or for any other thing that uses photos? Can I just completely uninstall iPhoto?

I am a big-time gamer and I recently bought a MacBook where I am doing most of my gaming. I play World of Warcraft on my machine pretty much every day. This was causing my MacBook to get incredibly HOT and also caused the fan to spin like crazy. I looked around a bit and decided to buy the Zefyr from Moshi since I already had their MacBook case, the Codex, and have been really happy with it. I have to say I am really impressed with the Zefyr MacBook cooler. My fan doesn't spin any longer when I'm gaming and you can honestly feel the difference in temperature. Any other hard-core gamers or video / photo editors out there might want to take a look at this!

has the issue been fixed? if not does it overheat less on thev i5 then the i7? or are they about the same?
im thinking of getting a mbp 15" i7 as an alt comp to accompany me when i cant use my quad core pc. so ill mainly use the laptop on my lap and such and i dont want it over heating while on me.
