I am trying to install Wireshark. The directions say to open a Finder window and navigate to /usr/local/bin. I cannot find where this is in Finder. Can someone provide me a detailed path how I can find this folder to copy Wireshark files?

I would appreciate some advice on an upgrade path for my Mac Mini. I have a 1.83GHz Mini with 80gb hard drive and 1GB memory. I'm using it for a HTPC and it has worked out well for this purpose. I recently tried to install Vista/Fusion on the Mini and found it to be so slow as to be unusable. Having used Vista and Fusion on my 2.2Ghz MBP with 4GB memory, I guess the memory is what is causing the problem since on MBP it works well. I have 2GB (2 x 1GB) of memory that I pulled from the MBP which I figured I would put into the Mini when I finally got the nerve to attempt an upgrade. Is 2GB enough to run Vista with Fusion? Its free so I would prefer to use it instead of spending about $45 for 4GB of new memory. Since I will be opening the Mini I was going to change the hard drive. With my HTPC setup I have about 2TB of external storage and just wanted to put in a larger and possibly faster drive in the Mini while I do the upgrade. Would you recommend going to 7200rpm or just stick with 5400rpm? Is heat an issue with these drive that would cause the Mini's fan to run more often? I was looking at a WD 250GB 7200rpm drive. Another other recommendations are appreciated.

Can I either make these hidden like in windows or can I at least make them use there own folder ie "Logs" rather than clutter. screenshot for an exampleÂ

I just got my first MacBook about a month ago. I love it... though I'm having some difficulty understanding and... accepting iPhoto. I like control of my photos to the file level and I don't like the libarary.Anyway... my old Windows Laptop I backed up to an external HD. Worked fine... I just copied and pasted my photo directories to the HD.I want to do the same with my MacBook... of course. I don't want to have to reformat the external HD to Mac because I have lots of photos and files on there that I want to leave on there and not remove with a format.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI think I have found a flaw in OSX 10.6.4 file copying..I normall back up my files, by dragging from a folder on my HD to an identical folder on my external HD.The folder I am copying has 86 files in it, but there are only about two dozen new files added since my last back up.I have been telling it by the dialogue box, not to replace identical files in the back up folder, and clicking the check box to apply to all."but when I press the dont copy button, in the copy progress box it says it is copying 86 files. WTF is going on...!@#$%^&*().

I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard on my older macbook. I did not specifically back up my itunes purchases, however, I did do several Time Machine back ups as well as manually moving data via Finder (copy "Macintosh HD" and paste to folder on external), and finally a clone using CarbonCopyCloner. I wanted to start fresh, but I failed to think of my iTunes purchases, as well as iPhone app purchases/downloads. Is there some way I can specifically restore iTunes from the back up without having to restore from a TimeMachine backup?

I want to append the file name with the folder path. The photos are organized in folders which give info I want to make part of the filename itself (country, city etc.)

Just trying to load my wamp sites on mamp.
Copied my folders into htdocs and it says to change to the wamp path file for index.php. I looked it up copied what I thought was the code needed and now all is broken.
Because of hard disk space issues I've moved all my iTunes libraries (I'm using Libra for making several libraries and selecting them) over to a bigger external hard drive. However, iTunes still thinks my music is on the "old" drive. I could of course just give the "new" drive the same name as the "old" one, but I'd rather not. So is there a way I can modify an iTunes library with a new file path? The library structure and everything is the same. It's just on a differently named hard drive now.
View 8 Replies View Relatedalrightyyy so basically my unibody 2008 macbook crashed a short while back, needed to re-install OSX, files were saved, applications were not. I had been using iLife '09 off a copy that my mother got with with her 2009 polycarbonate macbook. After the crash I upgraded to 10.6 and attempted to install iLife '09 again. It told me thus: 'Alert: this software cannot be installed on this computer'. And that's it. I can't access any of my pictures in iPhoto or upload any(3 wedding albums :3), and I can't access any of my old Garage Band files, simply because they were created on '09 and since the reboot I'm stuck with '08. Major bummer. Bottom Line: is there any way to get iLife '09 on my computer without wasting $100 just to access files?

The message I get says it's "not recognized". That ".iso" file installs properly in my PC. I searched this forum and learned that normally, ISO files should automatically work with Mac OS X. when I lost my entire collection of PC games, I've gone through the process of making a .iso file of all of the games I've purchased. I have a few games in .iso files sitting on my mac desktop. For some reason, I cannot install Windows Vista on bootcamp anymore, as whenever I try to start up, I get an error saying something like the file "Wmilib" is missing or something, and I can't repair it using the startup disk no matter what. Which leads me to crossovers. I spent my money on it, and am hoping I didn't waste it. Whenever I tell Crossover to load from my mounted .iso file, and hit the "proceed" button, it takes me to the top drop-down menu, where it asks me to select a program to install.
The only problem is that I want to install from my mounted .iso file, and not from the list of supported programs, which is stupid. I've also tried just directly opening the "Setup.exe" file right with Crossover, and that still does nothing, which is very frustrating. Is it even possible to install games on crossover using a .iso file? And if so, what am I doing wrong, that whenever I hit "proceed" button it takes me right to the list of supported software and WON'T LET ME INSTALL without choosing one?
I purchased a new Macbook last month and it shipped with Mac OSX 10.5.5. Is there any way I could get an updated copy with 10.5.6? I can't restore from my Time Machine until I've fully installed OSX and updated to 10.5.6.

Being an honest fellow, I had bought the "family" license, so that my wife can use it on her laptop. I copied the entire iWork folder (Keynote, Numbers & Pages) into the Applications folder on the laptop and, of course, gave her the registration key.
When she tries to launch one of the applications, she never reaches the stage of being asked to enter the key. The only thing she gets is a message saying that there is a problem, and she should check with the developer to see whether the software is compatible with her version of OS X, and it may be necessary to reinstall the software.
The OS X version is the same on both computers (10.6.5).

i will get my new 500GB seagate drive in the mail i was just wondering if i should fresh install. or just go for the standard CCC. doing a fresh install would take hours because i would need to install tiger the upgrade to leopard, then software update. then copy all the info from my old drive

I have several MACs in the family and want to make sure I have an extra disk in case something happens to the original. I have Toast Titanium and I believe I can make a copy of the disk. Will this be an exact copy and will it be bootable from the DVD drive on my iMac? Are there any special settings in Toast that I have to use.? I only recently purchased Toast and am not too familiar with it at this point.

I have downloaded Lion to my Macbook Pro. We live in a rural area and are on a "low speed" high speed internet connection, so it took me ~24 hours to download. I have not yet begun the installation process, and have copied the installesd.dmg from the install folder to my desktop. We have 3 macs in our house, and I don't want to have to try to download again, as the process is so slow. Can I just copy the installesd.dmg to a DVD or flash drive to install it on the other 2 macs?Â
If this is possible, do I have to do anything special? Can I install from the flash or DVD or do I need to copy onto the target mac first? Although both other macs are backed up using time machine, I'm a little nervous about just launching an installation without really knowing what I'm doing.
