I can't download imovie onto my mac! Every time I try, it says that I "need an existing version of imovie already installed" but I can't install one in the first place! I've checked my applications and everything.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy daughter recorded something on iMovie, but she wanted to import some video she took from our camcorder. She put the video on a DVD but she can't seem to drag the video onto her existing iMovie.
I called Apple's support service and they suggested I try loading the video directly from the camcorder but they couldn't help me with that as it's not an Apple product (the camcorder is a: Sony) They suggested to put the camcorder on some type of mode that the computer could recognize????
The other suggestion they made was to get a third party application that can "rip" the images from the DVD so it can be imported into iMovie. Again, they couldn't help me because it's not their product.
I'm not very really familiar with any of these things so I was hoping someone would be willing to help me figure it.
Does anyone still have the .dmg that Apple had posted on their site? If it's not illegal, which I'm sure it probably is for some stupid reason, could they by chance e-mail me the it? I didn't have a need or even think to download it before it was discontinued until now...

I would like to upgrade it to Safari 5.I had Safari 4 on my 5 yr. old Toshiba and on a newer Asus netbook and upgraded to Safari 5 with no problems. I save lot of links and l am used to saving and retrieving data from Safari. I like a couple changes that are on Safari 5 and would like to get them on my iMac.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner
This is starting to cheese me off. iMovie '09 is acting pretty strange. It does not let you drag titles into the storyboard, unless they are at the very beginning. Is this some kind of bug.
I have used iMovie '08 for months without issue, but this is my first project in '09, and it won't let my drag a friggen title in!
I also noticed that the red playhead likes to freeze where it is at random times, it stops moving with the mouse. Clicking the mouse-pointer button in that middle toolbar has no effect.
I am trying to import and edit videos (.wmv, .avi, .mov) files into iMovie. But it is not taking them.
I was only able to import videos that were in my iPhoto library.
Does anyone know how I can import my other video files into iMovie so that i can edit them?
I've takes some videos with my digital camera. When I connect it to my Mac, iPhoto opens up and imports them, and I have all the videos in their own event.
When I open up iMovie 08 to edit these clips, they do not show up in the event library under iPhoto videos.
You see, while working in iMovie I accidentally exported a movie when I wasn't finished with it, and I wasn't able to cancel the action. And now, since I'm not done with the project yet, I was wondering - can I, and if so, how, can I import it back into iMovie? View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to export a two hour movie to watch on dvd after editing for 4 months, and was running on 12gb left on my macbook. I then tried to export it HD (8gb) and it eventually failed, saying it had no space left. Even though the movie wasnt exported, it took my 12gb left down to 4gb, so I tried high quality exporting, and it almost finished but failed right at the end, complaining of no space, and even when the file wasnt where I asked it to be it still took my memory away, now leaving me with 400mb. I am so annoyed, and
I want to know if I can export the movie to my external harddrive (plug in usb) as an mp4 file, and if so how? This would be a HUGE help as I dont want to have wasted so much time!
When downloading small files online they will download through Speed Download. Before I installed Speed Download it would just download through the regular downloading client. How do I change it back to using the regular one as standard? I use firefox btw
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo i finished my first ten-minute long short film, i'm really proud of it. I wanted to share the whole thing in 1080p HD and then import it into after effects for some finishing touches. I did sharing < media sharing < 1080p hd.
1. Where did my movie go? it doesn't show up in iMovie anymore, and I found a big file over 1GB which appears to be my movie (but no way is it in 1080p, and I filmed with a sony HDR xr520v). I cant put that back into iMovie nor after effects.
2. Can I import this file into after effects cs4 and then re-export it in an equal quality?
So I literally just spent hours putting together a video for school. I exited out of iMovie knowing it was supposed to save the file on its own. I open it back up to check on it and *poof* it's completely gone. I searched my hardrive and the file exists but it will not open with iMovie or Quicktime. Is there any way to recover this video?

For reasons I cannot fathom, when I try to sign up for iCloud using that username/password, Lion comes back with "This Apple ID cannot be used to sign in to iCloud. Create a new Apple ID or sign in with a different one." I do NOT want yet another Apple ID and I certainly don't want to have one different from what I use in iTunes for purchases.

I am a late adopter to Leopard and Snow Leopard and therefore had become quite comfortable on the old version of iMovie. The new one is a big disappointment. Can I downgrade and have both versions operating on a Snow Leopard platform.

I am having huge issues getting a Zip File from my Shared Hosting with 1 and 1.com.
The zip file on their server is 557 MB. and i try to get the file, but keeps stalling when downloading
and then it stops at 555 MB. Then i try to Unzip the File and it looks somewhat corrupted !
I tried a couple different UnZip Apps, and The Unarchiver seemed to work better than the default Mac Unzipper......
What can be the issue here and What is the most rugged UnZipper for Mac ?
Did they just suddenly stop support for this app? Can't seem to find a good link anywhere? Can anyone send me a link? or better yet a zip file of the disk image?
View 4 Replies View RelatedGoing back to iMovie 6.0.4 was definitely the right thing to do. Adding Flip4Mac Pro solved all my file importing problems. Now, can I delete 8.0? Or does 6.0 share some files with it and will I have a problem if 8.0 is deleted? I also have to say that, the more I use my iMac, the better I like it. There are so many standard features in OSX Leopard that I am finding new tricks every day.

I'm downloading different files into excel (some tab delimited, some csv, some xls) from different places and they all open in excel with incredibly weird formatting. Basically the separation of each column makes no sense. When other people download the same exact files, their files appear normally, with each category in a different column. So there's something going on with my excel.
When I download a credit card statement, for example, it comes out like this:
"02/03/2010$18""82USPS 35960795520803QPS NEW YORK XXXXXXXXXXXXXX48(Standard Purch)"
With the quotes showing the columns... so the date and half of the price are in one column and the cents from the price and the vendor and the last four digits in the second column.
mp3 and pdfs get "0 bytes of ? - network connection lost" when I try Download linked file or Download link file as...
e.g. [URL]
It works fine in Chrome.
Restated Safari (5) and disk permissions are ok...
So I want to download iMovie HD. So when i opened the installing window it said - a newer version of this software is already installed. (iMovie 09) How can I download it successfully?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a PC in the upstairs office with cable/DSL router for Internet (through Comcast). This service also has a wireless connection. We have a Macbook laptop which connects effortlessly to our home network and we use it all over the house. We simply clicked the internet symbol on the top right (looks like a little amphitheater), selected out network, entered the password and have been connected ever since.
Today we brought home a new iMac and set it up in basement office. Tried the same routine. Clicked on the internet symbol, selected our network, noticed that the signal is just as strong as it is upstairs, typed in password but that's as far as we get.
I've gone the rounds with the Assist and the Utility features. I've shut the Airport on and off. I've tried setting up a new network. I do notice that the iMac has a "self-assigned" ISP "and cannot connect to the Internet." Does this mean I can't ever connect? Do we need to replace the self-assigned ISP with our Comcast IP address?
I've read here and there that our router might have Macs blocked and we could add this iMac as a secure system to get on the network. But we haven't played with the router's settings because we wouldn't know how. Besides, the Macbook connects fine.
Does this have anything to do with TimeMachine?
I upgraded the hard drive in my iMac to a larger one and upgraded to Leopard. Now every time I try to download something I get this message:
/Users//barrydunlap/Desktop/4tvmS0Z1.exe.part could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.
Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location.I have changed the download location multiple times but no help.
I've been unable to download any program applications from the internet.
