View 24 Replies View RelatedA suspicious popup came up on Firefox, but as soon as I clicked the red X to close it, another message popped up and asked if I was sure I wanted to continue closing the window. The options were "ok" to continue, or "cancel" to stop. I was in such a hurry I didn't see what the popup was for, but this was the first time I've been prompted to click another option to close the window, so I am suspicious of what it could possibly be. I clicked cancel and the window immediately closed. I have never had a questionable popup such as this in the two years I've had my Mac, so I was curious as to whether I should be concerned. I've restarted Firefox and deleted all browsing history/cookies. Is it possible this is malware or a virus?

View 6 Replies View RelatedGot a suspicious email wanting security updates on my bank accounts. Didn't use the link in the email & didn't knowingly download anything from the email. Went to another server & accessed my bank account to get an address to forward the email to. Went back to my mail & found that the suspected phishing email had vanished. My bank says I most likely got a virus from the email, thinks my account(s) has been compromised & advised me to scan my computer for malware before trying to go to my account again. My Software update shows I have the latest security, I never got a message advising me of suspicios sites or downloads. So how do I check for a virus or malware???

I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI may be clutching at straws here but I'm wondering if there is an application that will allow me to access my office Mac from my home Mac, primarily to transfer files I may have forgotten to take home.
The key point here is that I don't leave my office Mac on, so is there a remote app that can also start the office Mac up ready for use remotely? Presumably there is one that would wake it but I prefer to shut down when I leave.

I have a problem with a new installation of Lion. When I shutdown my computer, all the applications are launched by default. I have unchecked the option "Reopen windows when logging back in". When I go to my login items in the preferences system, any application is present and when I click right and go to the options tab, the option "Open at login" is unchecked. The applications who are launched are Mail, NetNewsWire, Chrome and iTunes.

When I log in using Lion, Mail, Entourage, and ICal open on my desktop.I already tried unchecking the restore windows box under system preferences/general; sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to stop it seems to be to uncheck the similar box that appears when you shut down the computer, but you have to do it each time, and I think it doesn't always work either. The options features in the dock items don't seem to work--they're already unchecked, and the windows still open. I don't want everyone else in my family to see my mail as soon as the computer opens and it's really annoying besides.

My Macbook has started to freeze up constantly after startup, applications are non-responsive. I can still move the mouse around the screen when this happens but the pointer soon turns into the beach-ball icon and after 5 minutes things go back to normal but only for a minute or two before everything starts freezing up again. There is a clicking noise coming from inside the mac whenever this happens.I have run a virus check which reported no infections and i have uninstalled all programs installed since the problem occurred but to no avail.
