I've been using Safari 5 since it was released. For some reason today I'm unable to open the Extensions Preferences without Safari crashing. I've tried reinstalling the browser but to no avail.

I've installed two extensions but they're not appearing in safari preferences so I can't uninstall or work with them. How do I make them appear?

Many extensions on extensions.apple.com cannot be installed.However, extensions that I installed before, no problem, such as AdBlock, Bing, Echofon. Others, will not install, it will be stuck at installing. And Safari may lose response after a while. I initially noticed that if I try to install YouTube5 which I downloaded myself, Safari will immediately lose response.
Tried solutions:
- Reset Safari
- Run OnyX
- Repair disk permissions
- Deleting all the extensions; extensions I installed before will install, others won't
- Deleting Clicktoflash and Glims
Is there going to be an apple downloads page?

I know it's probably staring me right int the face, but how do you enable extensions? I've gone through pretty much everything I can think of and Safari help is no good at all.

1) Does anyone know when, in particular, the extensions gallery will go live? Later this summer is a bit vague. I'm waiting on a few crucial extensions (e.g., AdBlock, WOT, Xmarks).
2) Concerning the Search Bar (Bing, Google, Yahoo!), will I be able to add additional search fields via the extensions gallery (provided someone creates them, of course)?
I presently use firefox and found the 'MyCroft Project' to be absolutely invaluable. It allows me to search common websites without having to navigate to them directly (url). If I can get this added capability, I will switch over for good!
I am having an odd problem. I have safari extension enabled, and I even have a few installed. Today though, when I went to double click on and install a new extension, instead of installing it re-downloads the extension. The extension is definitely .safariextz.

Just run into Glims today - how do you like it compared to Saft? Obviously, it runs with WebKit nightlies which Saft does not, that's a point. As for adblocking - is Safariblock state of the art, or do you recommend something else?

Am I the only one who was expecting a bit more selection, especially given the additional wait time after the launch of Safari 5? How does Apple expect Safari 5 to compete with Firefox when it has so few (approved) extensions? Since the launch of the extensions gallery, I haven't seen much change in the available offerings, even though there is still a wealth of non-approved extensions out there. So what gives? Is it a lack of developers? Is Apple being too stringent in its method of approving extensions?
View 18 Replies View RelatedA few days ago my email was hacked into which sent a spam email to all my contacts. I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.Â

just quickly to see if this is a widespread bug in Safari 3.2.1 if you click on the "Info" tab of a friend's profile or even your own and then click back on the "Wall" tab does Safari crash?
ive just sent a crash support and it would be really great if we get heaps of people sending one if its a widespread issue to squash this bug.

It seems to hang and the only way to get out if force quit and even then it hangs before it quits.
Its fine on my MacBook but PMG5 is getting annoying. I have always been a Safari fan but I'm thinking about installing Firefox. Which for me is a giant friggin leap.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am encountering the problems 9 out of 10 times when I am watching a video on youtube in fullscreen. The problem seems to be when I use fullscreen.... It also crashes when on other sites watching videos, but I use youtube daily.. After it crashes, I need to quit safari first and then restart safari for internet to work again, otherwise I need to wait 1 till a few minutes for it gets to my homepage and internet works again.
I tried reinstalling safari, reinstalling flashplayer and resetting safari, but with no luck. Don't know if it will do any good, but I am on the first MB aluminum unibody, using Safari 5.0.1 (6533.17.8) and I think flashplayer 10.6

I just downloaded Safari 4 beta from the apple site, installed it, restarted etc and everytime I launch it it crashes instantly. So, I uninstalled it (using the uninstaller), restarted, installed it, restarted again and still have the same problem. I've turned Growl off because I've heard this causes issues with some applications.

When I open the page it just freezes up and the pinwheel just keeps spinning and spinning. I noticed these problems on my MacBook after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now they are arising again on my recently purchased Mac Pro (also running SL). I'm running latest version of SL, Safari, and Flash.

It says something to the effect of, "The problem could be caused by a Flash plugin." Has that dialogue box been around in previous versions of Safari? Using Windows 7 Pc I open Safari under my Windows Log In which is Home and now when I try install Extension I get the error cant install, The extension that was their is not their either and it was working last week and it was there. So I clicked repair no luck, I uninstalled it and still nothing, so then I logged into the other user account in my Windows 7 Pc which is Guest or I have another one Called Party, and guess what EXTENSIONS INSTALL!!! And all is perfect. So I am lost as to how the Safari after being installed 2 times now ie re installed etc and restarted machine is not working under Home user in Windows.Â

After I have installed the evernote extension Safari shows no more extensions. The extension window is empty and if I try to reinstall extensions regardless of extension, I receive a popup window that says "An error occurred while installing the extension According to the preference setting, extensions are "on" but no extensions are listed.
