View 8 RepliesSafari has been crashing for me every time I open it. It's mostly on sites like YouTube, which leads me to believe that it's a flash problem. When I open the page it just freezes up and the pinwheel just keeps spinning and spinning. I noticed these problems on my MacBook after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now they are arising again on my recently purchased Mac Pro (also running SL). I'm running latest version of SL, Safari, and Flash.

Since the last update my Safari 4.0.3 crashes a lot. Like 3 or 4 times a day. Either that or it shows the spinning beach ball, meaning Safari is not responding and needs to be force quit. It looks like it's happening when a page is (re)loading. This looks a lot like the continuous crashing that happened to Safari 4 when it was just launched (was that in April, or May?). That was then reason for me to switch to Firefox. If this keeps up I might do that again. Or maybe to Chrome.
(I'm still on OSX.5.8).
Things usually go so well with Safari that I let my tabs grow to quite a number. No problem, until visiting an unfriendly web site that gives the spinning beach ball of frustration. Force quitting is the only solution, but there go all those tabs, some I've had open for days or weeks.
Is there a workaround that allows one to save the previous session, including tabs upon quitting Safari (to include Force Quit)?
So I was on stick am yesterday and safari started to bog down, then I couldn't scroll or click on anything at all. So I proceeded to go to force quit menu and the cursor froze. I'm new to mac so i'm upset. Do macs freeze often? If its safaris fault doesn't that mean that the OS shouldn't crash anyway

For the last 3 days I will be in an application (safari 4,actually) and the app will give me the beachball. I have seen the beachball many times in safari 4 so I would just force quit the app. Well in doing that its still shown with the blue dot under it on the dock, aswell as in the force quit menu. I go to open another app (say iphoto or firefox) and I also get the beachball, and I try to forcequit the app, and it will not force quit. Only way to cure it is to manually restart my macbook pro. (I have a unibody 2.4 macbook pro btw_). I have repaired permissions. Deleted and reinstalled safari and ran weekly/monthly scripts via cocktail.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Macbook Pro. When using safari, it freezes at least once a day to a point I can't force quit, and had to do a hard shut down. I've figured out that if I am using my computer and safari for more than a couple of hours, Safari just freezes. An apple support representative did mention that laptops were not meant to be constantly on, so I have been shutting it down when not in use. Still, I shouldn't have to shut down after an hour just to keep Safari from freezing.
Does this sound normal? Is there an easy fix? Do I need to look at getting this computer replaced? Or should I download a better web browser?
I'm also new to Mac, and thought switching from a windows would mean better reliability. So far I have been unimpressed with my computer. I just want it to work without worrying about having to force it to shut down once a day.

I am using a MacBook Air. When I attempt to select a file for uploading, Safari freezes and the spinning ball goes on and on. Example: When attempting to select and upload a document from my computer to the google drive, the wheel starts to spin when attempting to choose a file. I am unable to upload anything due to this issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple of weeks we have had a problem with itunes causing the computer (an iMac running OS X 10.5.5) to freeze and we can't even do a forced quit, but must turn off the machine manually. This seems to happen specifically when we are in the itunes store, not just working with the playlist. The computer has also frozen when in safari - the last time when we were trying to copy a page into Word. We thought it might be a wireless connectivity problem, but I have switched to an ethernet connection and still have the same problem happening.

I have the new macbook with all the regular apple software, and the plugins for QT, flash etc - nothing like saft etc.
receenlty sfari crashes on facebook, after i click on a few pages - not straight away.
I have no idea what to do - or if there are anything that might be on my computer that messes with this?
my applications have recently started freezing with the beach ball spinning. the only way i can close them is by force quitting.

At first I thought it was a Quark problem. When doing a mundane action such as changing a word to Italic, Quark 7.5 stalls (pretty color spinning wheel comes up and won't go away) it has to be forced to quit. Now, the same thing happened in Acrobat 7, when I was just moving across the top menu bar to drop down the tools menu. I am running MAC 0S X 10.5 on a MAC Book Pro3 - 2.4 ghz. I've run maintenance and everything looks fine.

Not in my startup processes either, but once I do a restart, it on cue starts running again. I have done some searching, but nothing has worked. Would anyone know how to kill this?
It's frozen and I want to shut it down but can't, and if I suspend it doesn't shut it down.

How do I close an application that won't quit and doesn't show up in the force quit dialogue box? I was trying to open Printer Pro but it doesn't show up in the finder and when I tried to put it in the trash it says it can't throw it away because it's open. The forced quit dialogue box does not list it as open. What do I do?

I just set up my new iMac, migrated everything from my MacBook Pro, and everything works EXCEPT Mail. I have configured my MobileMe settings to synch everything, and online, everything is there: contacts, all old email, etc... but Mail doesn't show any of this stuff, nor will it retrieve or synch any of my email accounts. Also, I have to Force Quit it everytime to exit the program.
Could this be something with the Preferences file, or .plist file?
I downloaded Madagascar 2, and it billed me for it. But the download never finished, it frozed, and I force quit itunes and when I restarted the application, nothing was there. Does anyone know how I can redownload it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhere are the up dates for Leopard? Why Does my brand new Mac Pro crash daily? Why does Apple release software that is not stable? How do I fix this problem of leopard constantly crashing after I force quit an application? I'm losing $1000's because of this stupid faulty system. Who's up for a class action lawsuit? This is not fair to consumers who spend good hard earned money on a new computer only to get a faulty Operating system that runs worse than windows. Screw you steve jobbs. This needs to get taken care of now and Apple doesn't offer any outlets. This seems like a planned faulty release and Apple needs to fix it or give us our money back. I need at least 2000 people to follow in a class action law suit.
View 2 Replies View RelatediTunes has been crashing for months when playing CDs (but it's fine for DVDs and the audio files on iTunes). ppc G5 iMac, 10.5.8. Twice on inserting a CD, again when the CD concludes, and often during playing, or when I try to adjust volume. It did this with a LaCie external drive and now that I've installed a new replacement Toshiba internal superdrive it still does exactly the same thing. After reading about the many bugs with v9.0.1 I obtained v8.0.2, deleted everything to do with iTunes and reinstalled the older version. However, the crashes continue unabated. Have run Disk Warrior, Tech Tools Pro5, reset the hardware pulling the AC plug etc., run Permissions over and over, thrown out prefs files, etc. No improvement. AppleCare on iMac is expired and no other forum has helped. Couldn't find another ap just to play CDs or I would use it! QuickTime doesn't work.

Lately, the command-Q (quit) option under the File menu is greyed out/not available. I tried using the Quit function from the dock icon for Safari--no good, either. I have to Force Quit in order to close Safari.

I just got the screen that says you need to hold down the power key and restart your computer. Anyone know why? I'm running tiger. I had about 12% battery left and I am "borrowing" my neighbors internet because mine is down right now (I'm a broke college student). I had about 1-3 bars of internet but those go in and out and fluctuate often. I've noticed my computer seems to lag because of that, I've had a lot more applications crashing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new IMac Intel version and I am having a problem with AOL. I have always had a problem with AOL and my Macs (now on number 3). In the past, if I left AOL running it would not allow the Macs to close down without Force Quitting from AOL and AOL would not quit normally. With the new Mac, if I use AOL it won't quit and when I Force Quit it disconnects the Mac from the internet and I have to restart. As I live in Antigua both Apple and AOL have been useless at trying to solve the problem.
