Applications :: Periodically Transfer Files Back And Forth - Using RDC?

Jun 23, 2010

I am using RDC to connect from home to my office PC (Windows 7). I would like to periodically transfer files back and forth. This is simple as copy and paste from PC to PC, but I cannot figure out how to do this using RDC. Is there a simple method of doing such?

OS X :: Accidently Trashed My Time Machine Back Up Folder - How Can I Transfer It Back?

Sep 8, 2009

I'm an idiot, pleased to meet you.I had 2 external drives connected to my Macbook Pro, both had time machine back ups on...I meant to delete one of these but deleted the wrong one, and dragged it into Trash. On realising my mistake I tried to drag it back out of Trash, as you would normally but after "preparing to copy" for four hours it told me the drive was full...It's a 500gb drive, and the Time Machine back up is the only thing on it, so presumably it's just trying to copy itself when the back up is still present on the drive, albeit in the Trash.

Applications :: Transfer Files That Are Too Big To Email To Other System?

Oct 18, 2009

Looking for something I can setup to transfer files from my home iMac to my folks' MBP over the internet. We use iChat (via Google mail) often, and I "take over" their MBP to perform maintenance and just generally help them when they get stuck (they're not very computer literate) however, I would like to have a way to transfer files that are too big to email to their machine i.e. video clips etc.

Any recommendation for some sort of FTP application I've used FTP software on Windows machines before, just haven't used anything on macs yet.

MacBook :: Transfer Files (bookmarks - Mail - Printer - Applications) From Old To New System?

Nov 20, 2009

My husband just ordered a new 13 inch MB for me for Christmas. When it arrives next week I want to get it all set up before he wraps it and "hides" it from me (he said I could so it's ready to go on Christmas morning). So I need to know the easiest and best way to get my files (bookmarks, mail, printer, applications, etc) from the old to the new. I use an external hard drive and super duper to back up. I've never done this before. Would a genius bar do it for me?

MacBook Pro :: Transfer Files To External HD -- Transfer Starts But Doesn't Complete

Feb 29, 2012

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

Applications :: How To Turn A Handbrake Video Back To Dvd Files For Burning

Apr 3, 2009

I have a lot of movies encoded with handbrake at the apple tv settings, and a few people have asked how to take one of those and re-convert it back into dvd files.

can this be done? I need to put a few backed up dvd's back onto dvd's cause i already got rid of them and i cannot watch the appletv handbrake version over at certain friends houses.

I tried doing the video files as data but they still show up with the .mp4 at the end and the dvd player will not recognize them.

MacBook Pro :: Transferring Files Over WiFi - Fails To Transfer All Files?

Feb 16, 2010

I'm banging my head against the wall with this problem. I have a new MBP 13", 4GB Ram, etc etc. When I transfer files across my network (or the office network), it will consistently fail to transfer a few of the files. For instance, I just tried to copy 50 photos to an SMB share on our server here at the office. The transfer window show the progress of 50 files, but when I look at the folder, there are only 48 files. Sometimes I get less, sometimes I get all 50. The same goes for my home network to an SMB share. I've confirmed this failure over N and G networks. The AP at home and the office are different models and I went as far as purchasing a new one for home since I thought it was the problem. Same results. Is there some hardware error going on here with my wifi card? Is there any way to test it? Are the SMB shares the problem?

MacBook Pro :: Periodically Hangs On Bootup

Nov 28, 2010

Every once in a while, my mid-2010 15" i5 MBP sits at the greyish Apple logo screen, after the "bong," with the wheel spinning forever. If I shut down and reboot, I'm at a log-on screen in about 15 seconds (which is my typical boot time, as I have an SSD). This is my first Mac after a long time on PCs, so I've got no idea where to start. All the posts I've found by searching pertain to earlier model machines using HDDs where the user can't get a boot at all; I'm only seeing this weirdness periodically.

Hardware :: MyBook HD Shutting Down Periodically

Apr 21, 2007

I have a Western Digital HD with a mac mini. Sometimes, after the Mybook is not used for a while, it will shut down, to the point that, only unplugging both the firewire AND power to the Mybook will restart it. How do I get this thing to reboot and show up on my desktop/finder again? It's quite frustrating w/ itunes, as the songs wont play at all if the HD shuts down.

Intel Mac :: I3 Mid 2010 21,5 Turns On Periodically

Apr 18, 2012

I read a lot about that issue but I found replies about imacs that wont turn on. But my Imac after the problem, turned on one time.

My issue is that my imac was working like a charm. The day before yesterday, at night, i had an automatic update of firefox and after i switched it off normally.

The day after, at morning, I tried to turn it on but it was behaving like it was not attached to the electricity.

I started to read and I found all that solutions so I did the following:

1. Tried other cables (for power supply)

2. Tried other plugs (in different rooms)

3. Put out the ram sticks and cleaned with a blow dryer the sticks and the space inside the imac so the dust goes out.

4. Tried the reset of SMC with no success as it could not be turned on

I tried everything and after I leaved the mac alone, (3-4 hours) and after i just clicked the button and it was on. I left it all night long switched on so that i save my data and I found it on, this morning.

So this morning I did everything to reset the SMC. I put it in sleep mode, restart it, shut it down, put out the cable for 15 sec, put it back, wait 5 sec, but it wont turn on again. I know that there are a lot of responses for the same issue, but I didn't find one that the imac turns on periodically.

Intel Mac :: OS X Lion Hangs Periodically?

Jun 1, 2012

My iMac hangs periodically every time I use it.  It doesn't seem to show a discernable pattern with regard to activities I'd be performing when it hangs.  I could be browsing or checking/composing emails; or perhaps organizing files, iTunes, movies, etc.

iMac would hang for a few seconds and it's not just the active app that hangs.  Everything is affected -- background apps, dock, menu bar, etc.  This would happen a few times each day.  I have 8GB of RAM installed and would usually maintain about 3.5 - 5.5 free RAM. I even stopped using Safari cuz it hogs too much RAM.

P.S.  Mac hanged as I was about to click on the radio button for "Product - iMac" below.  Mac also hanged earlier which prompted me to send out this call for help....

IMac :: Periodically Losing Network Connection?

Dec 21, 2009

Any else having a problem with periodically losing their network connection on their new iMac? Basically not working properly with your router?

I've narrowed the problem down to the router by connecting directly to the modem and using PPPoe, which works fine.

I had a dlink router which I thought was causing this. Whenever I would use the new iMac I would lose the internet periodically (on my whole network). It would take about 5 minutes to return.

I bought a new linksys router WRT120N to replace the dlink and the problems continue but the internet now only goes out long enough to disconnect my instant messengers and interrupt my streams. Just a little blip. I updated the firmware on the router which I thought worked (ran flawlessly for two days) but now the problem is back.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one suffering from this or has it been happening to others. It's rather annoying.
