Any else having a problem with periodically losing their network connection on their new iMac? Basically not working properly with your router?
I've narrowed the problem down to the router by connecting directly to the modem and using PPPoe, which works fine.
I had a dlink router which I thought was causing this. Whenever I would use the new iMac I would lose the internet periodically (on my whole network). It would take about 5 minutes to return.
I bought a new linksys router WRT120N to replace the dlink and the problems continue but the internet now only goes out long enough to disconnect my instant messengers and interrupt my streams. Just a little blip. I updated the firmware on the router which I thought worked (ran flawlessly for two days) but now the problem is back.
I'm just wondering if I'm the only one suffering from this or has it been happening to others. It's rather annoying.
My mac is set to automatically connect to the internet, but since downloading Mac Lion 10.7.3, I'm having problems. I have to reconnect to the internet repeatedly throughout the day. I also recently updated Microsoft office - not sure if that's somehow related.
I am running into a headache with my wireless network connections. When I close my laptop to put it to sleep, I often lose my network connection. It is easy enough to reconnect; I simply try to connect to a web page, get network diagnostics, and re-enter my password (and click on the "remember password" box). All works great -- until I next close the laptop. It happens all the time at one site, sometimes at home (using Time Capsule), and seldom at the church where I volunteer.
I have checked all my settings and can't figure out what's going on. If my poor memory is correct, I didn't use to have this problem, but it has been going on for the last couple of months. I know I could keep the sucker open, but I want to save power by putting it to sleep -- and the desk where I work at home has a sliding drawer so it has to be closed to close the drawer. (And my network connections are all in the desk also.) I've posted this question to the Apple forum but haven't gotten any replies there other than a couple of followup questions. I am using Time Capsule as my router and I have updated the software
Got my iMac back in the end of February and it's been working flawlessly. About a month ago though, my connection started randomly dropping after periods of moderate internet-use. Say maybe, 20-30mins of browsing. It usually starts working fine after I shut the computer off for a while and try again. I thought maybe it was the ethernet cable, so I got another one, but with the same result. So it got me thinking, maybe it is my ISP. Called Verizon up and they said everything looked good on their end and that my IP was showing up fine. They reset my connection, but with no result. The gentleman on the phone suggested it maybe the computer.
I took my Dell laptop and tried surfing using the built-in Wifi for a while. 2 hours later...working fine. So I tried pluging the ethernet cable to the laptop, worked fine again. So now i'm thinking it HAS to be the computer. So switched the built-in Airport Wifi on the iMac on and tried it out. 2 1/2 hours later...everything works great. WHAT THE HELL!? I'm thinking, since it just suddenly happened, the problem must've been triggered by some sort of update I did(which I don't remember if I did). I searched the Apple Support forums and it turns out, several people have had the same/similar problem with their Macs with no solution.............
I have 3 macs working off my wireless router. Two out of three are still working fine, but the third (an iMac G5) keeps losing its network connection and either won't find the network or, if it does, will not allow me to rejoin it, even after entering the relevant key/password. It has been in the same location in my house and has worked fine for the last five years. But oddly, if I move the G5 to within a few feet of the router it starts working again (though sometimes seems unable to find the network, although when it does it will let me join it, hassle free).
Have spoken to some Apple guys and, following their advice, have gone into SYSTEM PREFERENCES, NETWORK, LOCATION but having got that far a pop-up appears telling me that an application has changed my network settings. Zapping OK, this dialog box just keeps re-appearing and the only way I can get out of this corner is by 'force quit'.
When I try to get email or go on the internet in general after being away for a short while, the internet is not connected and has trouble connecting. I have DSL and should always be connected. I also have a laptop (non Apple running Ubuntu) and there is no problem there.

I have no idea what's wrong. I tried reinstalling os x with no luck. 21.5" 3.06GHz 4GB ram 500GB hd iChat keeps disconnecting, pages and youtube vids load extremely slow(about 1min to load this post page).
I recently purchased (as in days ago) a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro. I just noticed today that my wireless connection on my Macbook Pro has been losing it's connection about every other 2-3 minutes. I was on iChat with a buddy this morning, and I must have been disconnected and then reconnected about 8 times in 20 minutes. I first thought it must have been a problem with iChat. That said, I have sat here looking at my screen for the past ten minutes, and I have seen the Airport wireless indicator disconnect and then reconnect again at least three times in the past ten minutes.
I have AT&T U-Verse Service, and I am forced to use their provided 2WIRE router. That said, I have had no problems with any other device that uses the wireless connection, from my iPhone to my PS3. I work from home and have my HP laptop literally sitting right next to my Macbook, and it has not disconnected once from the same wireless connection, whereas my Macbook has literally disconnected at least 20 times.
I purchased my new mbp a little less than a week ago, and Ive noticed a slight problem. Normally my internet is blazing fast, but every once in a while (every 3-5 hours) my internet will just stop for about a minute. Pages will stop loading, my chat stops responding, etc. I have a PC right next to me and the internet continues to work fine with that so I know my internet is fine. This problem is with a WIRED connection, I dont really use airport yet.
I am a new Mac user. I bought a 27" iMac today to replace a dead PC. My download speeds are AWFUL on the Mac. While using the PC, my maximum download speed on a 6 mbit connection was over 850kb/sec. Now, with the mac, I can barely manage 250K/sec downloads. I am using all the same equipment and cables as before (not using the wireless, and I have it disabled), and if I plug in another PC into my router, it will get the 850+kb/sec download speeds, no problem at all. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to get things working properly? Poor speeds occur no matter what program I am downloading from, whether it be Safari, FTP, or whatever. I just installed parallels, with windows, and I can download at my old speeds. How do I do it in native Mac mode then?
I would like to connect my IMAC to my tv. I tried using a home network, but the samsung tv I have does not recognize most of the files, plus the internet apps suck big time.(only netflix is kind of good) So I was then thinking to get a mac mini and just but ay 1000$ it doe snot solve my needs. So I am looking for something to wireless stream the video from my imac to the tv. So it would mini dvi to hdmi - then box with HDMI input to stream to another box with HDMI output connected to my tv. It would also need to stream the audio. Is there anyway to just use the network connection and just hack into the tv?
I recently switched cable providers to Time Warner. They set up a Ubee cable modem and all devices (IPhone, IPad, AppleTV, etc) are all connecting to the wireless network except my IMac. I tried renewing my DHCP lease, updating to OS X Maverick but every time I try and connect I get an error message that says "Connection Time Out".
I have a small network running from a Netgear Wireless Router. It's set to be the DHCP server. Then I have 2 MAC's connecting wirelessly to this router. Both set to receive IP's from Router. also, Windows XP SP3 Desktop, set with Static IP address and via LAN. On the Windows XP machine, I have a shared folder directly under C:. Shared name is BOAW. Connection to this server is perfect, but at times it will start dropping. Both MAC's will randomly get this message saying that it lost connection to the <<Specified Folder Name>>.
It doesn't loose connection at specific times or timeouts. It's will work good for a day or so, then will start dropping and the dropping seems so warm up and multiply. Only way to get this connection back, is to restart the Windows XP SP3 machine, which is the the PC with the shared folder. Sometimes it helps if you switch off / on on the Airports from the MAC's, but that stops working after a few goes. PC restart is the only way so far. Before, the Windows Xp SP3 PC, was running with wireless as well, and I first thought if I change over the LAN interface, it would help with a more stable / faster connection.
Kinda stumped here. I have an Apple router and connected a 1TB external drive to it. Set it up for Time Machine on my MBP and the first backup (and a couple of subsequent backups) went through just fine ove wi-fi. It seems like after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, the back ups stopped working. I can see my router in Finder but when I try to connect now, it says connection failed. I can get into the router through the Utility and if I reboot the drive, I can see it on my MBP. I started another backup but it keeps losing network connection.
I'm running 10.7.3 on my Mac Pro4,1 and have the standard Apple USB keyboard attached while using the Apple BT trackpad. After sleep and/or log off, I am often not able to use the keyboard any longer. To revive it, I must restart my system.
my bluetooth keyboard keeps losing connection. i go up to the status bar and reconnect, it connects then a few minutes later i lose connection again. the batteries are 100% i reboot the desktop my mouse see just fine.
Almost every time my laptop goes into sleep and back out I lose my wireless internet connection? It's not every time but it's getting more and more frequent. Is this a problem with my wireless router or a setting within? My 13" MBP is a June 2009 model. I have the Best Buy warranty but I can't be without my laptop while I'm on the road for work.
I have used my saucer-shaped AEBS for years without a single issue but now in the last month it has started frequently dropping the connection. The network is still seen from may Macbooks, but I can't get to the internet. And Airport Utility will not see the AEBS or the Apple Extreme I use for Airtunes. Power cycling the AEBS brings everything back. It seems to be random but frequent, like once an evening. The only thing different in the past month is that I got a (non-Apple) smartphone that is also on the network, along with my two Macbooks and Apple Extreme. Could that cause this problem somehow? Or can the AEBS just be failing as it ages?
I have a 2008 MacBook running Mac OSX and it loses wireless internet connectivity on a continuous intermittent basis. I use a Linksys router and none of my wireless PC's are effected by any loss of connectivity when my Mac is, in fact, they do not lose connection to the internet at all. I am connected to my own secure network that is wep password protected.
my 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner. It is installed in the second optical drive bay. If I power down, pull the connections to the drive and re-attach, the drive is again recognized on boot. A day later, no drive found. The first optical (top bay) drive never loses connection.
Well it will connect then when I move it around and pick it up off the table it loses connection. It just started doing this a few days ago and continues doing it. It does this in windows as well. If I keep it on the table it will be fine, but as soon as I move around and pick it up on accident barely off of the table it's connection is lost.
I've got a bluetooth mighty mouse and a 13" MacBook Pro. Yesterday, the mouse started losing its connection. It would just suddenly die and I'd have to go into my bluetooth settings and disconnect (because it wasn't actually disconnecting that end) and then reconnect it.
