View 2 RepliesIs there away to import mail account settings from Thunderbird and/or Outlook Express into Mail? [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.
I’m using Thunderbird 31.0 beta on OSX 10.9.3 and when I move a message from my IMAP inbox to my local folders, the message at first appears to be moved.Â
1) It disappears from the inbox folder display and
2) It is copied into my local folderÂ
However, if I look in the IMAP trash folder the message is not there. When I go back to the IMAP inbox folder, the message reappears there. (It will also reappear if I simply refresh the IMAP inbox folder after moving the message).Â
If I delete the message from my IMAP inbox folder, it is correctly moved from my IMAP inbox folder to the IMAP trash folder, which is how I have my server settings delete options configured. Changing the server settings delete options doesn't affect the problem when moving messages.Â
Additionally, my local mail folders are configured as maildir, not mbox. (Not sure it that's relevant info..)Â
Another user on the same IMAP server mentioned that they don't see this behavior with 24.6.0. I haven't tried to downgrade my Thunderbird version yet. I'd like to get confirmation that I have to, before I go through the process.Â
Info:
OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
I am moving over from Outlook 2011 for Mac at last! Annoying in mail (and something in Outlook), can you change unread timing when you click it within mail itself? There are extensions [URL] but I wonder in 4.5 whether you can do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a user who just switched from Mac Mail to Outlook 2011. Getting a strange issue when sending to users on Outlook 2010 PC.
When sending a message, users on Outlook 2011 and people viewing the message via web mail can see the message fine. It reports that it's a digitally signed message (just one sentence), and the certificates look fine. Via the web, the message appears fine. It says:
"This message has a digital signature. The digital signature could not be validated because the S/MIME control is not available." However, it comes up fine.
However, users on Outlook for PC (my version is 2010), cannot read it. I first get a preview pane error "This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents." And when I double-click on the message, I get a pop up window "Your Digital ID name cannot be found by the underlying security system."
Anyone can provide clues why other Outlook MAC users and via the web the message can be read, but just not PC Outlook users for now?
I will be switching from Outlook 2007 to Office for Mac Outlook 2011 for my business email/calendar/contacts. I am pleased with Outlook 2007, but despise my PC otherwise. I will be using Microsoft Exchange as my email server. My concerns: Calendar Syncing, Accessing Archived PST files, Transitioning current mail folders.
I have a couple questions regarding this switch:
- Will Office for Mac Outlook 2011 accommodate by business needs and offer a comparable application as Office 2007 (PC version)?
- What roadblocks or issues should I be aware of when making this switch?
I am switching from Windows to Mac after 27 years. I have a couple of years of e-mail using Thunderbird by Mozzilla. Can someone tell me how to best move those files over to Mac? I am running Paralells in order to have access to Windows applications.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had a lot of problems in the past with the generic OS X Mail app. I've been unable to send, or receive, or both. I've tried just about every combination of ports, settings, etc., suggested to me on the Apple Discussions site. But all to no avail. So, I've finally ditched OS X Mail and installed Mozilla's Thunderbird. Now, using identical settings to those tried in OS X Mail, I can send, receive, and do just about anything I like. Except. Thunderbird will not import my Address Book! My Address Book is the standard Mac OS X Address Book. I have tried saving v-cards, saving the whole book, etc, but when I try to import to Thunderbird, I just get a bunch of blank v-cards or nothing at all. Step by step guide please. I'm sure this must be both possible and easy. I must just be missing some single vital step.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem importing mail from Thunderbird to Mail.app on Leopard. I transfered all my messages from windows computer to a mac that ran Tiger OS and Thunderbird. Now a few months later I upgraded OS to Leopard and wish to import messages from Thunderbird to Mail.app. But Mail imports only messages that have been once transfered from windows and doesn't import any of the messages that I have received or sent on my mac these last few months.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've recently set up an email account through my website hosted by fxdomains.com
I've set up my email account in both Apple Mail and Thunderbird:
Incoming: pop.secureserver.net
Outgoing: smtpout.secureserver.net
After setting up through Apple Mail, I can send emails perfectly.
After setting up through Thunderbird, can't send any mail Any mail I try to send just times out.
I prefer to use Thunderbird. What seems to be the problem with this?
I decided to use Mail.app after using Thunderbird for years. When I use the import in Mail, it fails to import inbox items after May 2007.
Then, I copied all inbox items into a folder in Thunderbird. When I import that folder into Mail, again 17 out of 282 items which are dated until May 2007.
What do I have to do to fully import my mails?
btw sent & messages in other folders are correctly imported.
I use Thunderbird as my preferred mail client. However, one thing I don't like is how when I am in the inbox, anytime I click on a message it always opens beneath. This is not that big of a deal, but what bugs me is that the message is then counted as a "read message." Therefore, like I'm sure many of you do as well, I constantly have to secondary click --- drag cursor down to "mark" --- then click "as read".
I have to do this in order to mark it as "unread" so I remember to reply to it later. If I single click (or tap) the cursor over and email in my inbox, it will either not open up beneath and not be marked as read, or still be opened up beneath (in the inbox) but not be marked as read? The second option would be preferred, but either would be better than the current default setting I have.
Is there any way to get mail receipts like you can with MS Outlook.I ask this question for both Mail.app and Entourage.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do you like it? I am still on Entourage 2004. I do not use exchange so not sure if it would be worth it. At the job we use Windows and Outlook anyways so dont know if it would be worth it to buy Outlook 2011. Is Outlook 2011 worth the price or should I stay with Office 2004? I use Mail a bit, but it lacks a number of features found in Entourage so I switch back and forth between the two mail clients.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm moving over to a iMac from PC in the next week or so (well will be putting in the order then) and already have decided that I need Office for Mac for Word and Excel (I use my home computer to do some work stuff on it - i find it easier than using the work laptop).
Anyway, I'm wondering if if i should get "professional" version of Office which also includes Outlook or if I should stick with Mail and therefore only get the "home / student" version of Office.
I've read on these forums that there are issues with Outlook syncing, but for what I have read this is via iTunes. So is there still the same problems if syncing via mobile me? Being able to sync using Mobile me is a big thing as I share calendars with my partner.
For what I have read, Mail is just emails and there are other apps for contacts and Calendars - do the three interact seamlessly and sync using mobile me.
I also understand that to get my old Outlook emails onto my new iMac and readable with Mail I will have to use a app to convert them - which seems to be no biggie according to those who have written about it.
So, my main concerns / questions are:-
-For those of you who have converted from Outlook to Mail - was it worth it, or would you have preferred to still be using Outlook;
- If I were to stick with Outlook, does it sync using mobile me;
- Does having 3 separate apps (Mail / Contacts / Calendars) work, or is having all 3 in one better.
just wondering if you are going to use outlook when it comes with office 11 or you will stick with apple's Mail? Personally, I would use mail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble converting my Mac (not PC) Outlook Express messages to Entourage (eventually I would like to move them to Mac Mail as well). On my old iMac I ran System 8.6 and Outlook Express. The messages on my old iMac were mostly saved as a single file named "Messages" in my "Main Identity" folder - this is how Outlook Express seemed to save the messages. I now have a PowerMac G5 running 10.5.6 and running Mac Mail as well as Entourage. I need to have a look at my old backed-up messages for business purposes, but I am unable to do so. I have given away my old iMac and so now I am stuck with System X and Entourage/Mac Mail.
I have downloaded the PST Import Tool but it does not seem to recognise my Mac Outlook Express files. I tried to open the files with Entourage; my old Outlook Express "Messages file" is recognised (or labelled) as an "Entourage database" but it does not open. I did have some individual messages saved that I was able to simply copy and paste as messages on to Entourage. But 99% of the old messages are stored in this single, large "Messages" file. And it is this file which I need to convert/import and am unable to do so. How do I convert this mac file into something that Entourage or MS Mail is able to understands seems to be the key question. All of this is very disconcerting to me - I have been a Mac person all my life and given that I am not changing computer platforms, I did not expect to encounter such problems. And there are some important e-mails I really do need to retrieve.
At work we use Entourage with exchange access to our work email. My coworker would like to be able to back up all his emails in entourage, and transplant them to his home PC which is using Outlook, and have them be all in his inbox and whatnot...what do I have to do?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwell I'm about to start using either Mail or Entourage for my yahoo and Gmail accounts. I know that for Yahoo you need to pay $19.99/year or so to get it work on Mail/Entourage so I guess I got no choice but to do so. This will be my first time ever using a mail app because for years I've used the website-based e-mail only, so I'm still not so familiar with these apps. I've tried both Mail and Entourage and so far I like Entourage better. It just looks neater and seems to have more options than Mail (I might be wrong). Are there any downsides of Entourage I should be aware of? Is it possible to import all the birthday etc. alerts that I have on Yahoo mail calendar to Entourage calendar? Also, is it possible for Entourage to notify you when you receive an e-mail the way Mail does? Another thing: I heard that next year Outlook for Mac will be available with the release of Office 2010. Anybody know when MS plans to release it? Should I wait till then and just get Outlook instead or is the release date still quite remote?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to transfer some emails from Entourage on my wife's Powerbook to Outlook 2007 on a PC and don't see how to do it. When I choose "Export" in the Entourage File section I am able to create a folder with a .msbox suffix but don't see how to move that to Outlook. I see some file format conversion programs on the Internet but they all seem to deal with Outlook to Entourage conversion.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've read around the forums a bit and found some discussion on connectivity for sending / receiving emails via Outlook. Is it true that POP3 support is not going to happen with Outloook for Mac 2011? I have been testing the software and am able to recieve emails from my Godaddy POP3 but can not send anything out.
Is there an email/calendar/notes client out there that is close to Outlooks functionality? I am a nub as this is my first Mac and would really like to know what else is out there that is comparable and combines the features mentioned earlier. So far I love the OS and the speed...My custom built PC has shut down for the last time.
Why does the ribbon part of the Reply window get grayed-out when replying to the same person for the 2nd time? It seems to work fine when replying to a unique e-mail for the first time, but upon receiving reply from that person and replying to that 2nd e-mail of his, most of the ribbon icons get grayed-out. Why? I've attached two screenshots for your reference - the first one with non-grayed-out icons, and the second one with greyed-out ones.

Like many of you, I have to use a PC at work. I can access outlook on said PC either through webmail or Remote Desktop Connection but what I would really like is an automated way to sync my oulook calendar with iCal. I thought AddressX would work but it requires ananymous connectons to the exchange server which is apparently a no no from a security perspective. How have you sync'd outlook calendar with iCal?
