Applications :: How Do I Move Thunderbird E-mail From PC To Mac

May 27, 2008

I am switching from Windows to Mac after 27 years. I have a couple of years of e-mail using Thunderbird by Mozzilla. Can someone tell me how to best move those files over to Mac? I am running Paralells in order to have access to Windows applications.

Applications :: Import Mail Account Settings From Thunderbird And / Or Outlook Express Into Mail?

Jan 31, 2010

Is there away to import mail account settings from Thunderbird and/or Outlook Express into Mail? [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.

Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.

Applications :: OS X Mail And Mozilla Thunderbird

Jan 26, 2009

I've had a lot of problems in the past with the generic OS X Mail app. I've been unable to send, or receive, or both. I've tried just about every combination of ports, settings, etc., suggested to me on the Apple Discussions site. But all to no avail. So, I've finally ditched OS X Mail and installed Mozilla's Thunderbird. Now, using identical settings to those tried in OS X Mail, I can send, receive, and do just about anything I like. Except. Thunderbird will not import my Address Book! My Address Book is the standard Mac OS X Address Book. I have tried saving v-cards, saving the whole book, etc, but when I try to import to Thunderbird, I just get a bunch of blank v-cards or nothing at all. Step by step guide please. I'm sure this must be both possible and easy. I must just be missing some single vital step.

Applications :: Importing Mail From Thunderbird?

Mar 19, 2009

I have a problem importing mail from Thunderbird to Mail.app on Leopard. I transfered all my messages from windows computer to a mac that ran Tiger OS and Thunderbird. Now a few months later I upgraded OS to Leopard and wish to import messages from Thunderbird to Mail.app. But Mail imports only messages that have been once transfered from windows and doesn't import any of the messages that I have received or sent on my mac these last few months.

Applications :: Migration From Thunderbird To Mail?

Feb 22, 2010

I decided to use Mail.app after using Thunderbird for years. When I use the import in Mail, it fails to import inbox items after May 2007.

Then, I copied all inbox items into a folder in Thunderbird. When I import that folder into Mail, again 17 out of 282 items which are dated until May 2007.

What do I have to do to fully import my mails?

btw sent & messages in other folders are correctly imported.

Applications :: Tweaking Settings In Thunderbird Mail Client

Mar 4, 2009

I use Thunderbird as my preferred mail client. However, one thing I don't like is how when I am in the inbox, anytime I click on a message it always opens beneath. This is not that big of a deal, but what bugs me is that the message is then counted as a "read message." Therefore, like I'm sure many of you do as well, I constantly have to secondary click --- drag cursor down to "mark" --- then click "as read".

I have to do this in order to mark it as "unread" so I remember to reply to it later. If I single click (or tap) the cursor over and email in my inbox, it will either not open up beneath and not be marked as read, or still be opened up beneath (in the inbox) but not be marked as read? The second option would be preferred, but either would be better than the current default setting I have.

OS X :: Migrating To Mail From Thunderbird?

Oct 28, 2007

I've recently installed leopard on my macbook and I'd like to migrate from thunderbird to mail so that my contacts and all can be synced from one application to another. That's the beauty of mac osx afterall.

Alright, So I launched mail, clicked import from thunderbird and everything seemed to be running smoothly and when all my mails finished importing, I did a quick check on the mails and. The mails weren't properly sorted into the different folders and I had tons of mail missing! Does anyone here have any experience with migrating from thunderbird to mail and faced these problems during their migration? If I did it manually, would it be better? Kindly advise.

Secondly, I used to run filters on my mail such that my mail will get sorted out into different folders. It's really handy because it keeps my mails organised and stuff. How does mail do this? Is it the smart mailbox that I see?

Which on do you use and why? I use Thunderbird because it's what I've used on Windows. I just moved over my profile folder with all of my settings and filters. I'm debating on going with Mac mail since it's native to OSX.

Software :: Setting IPhoto Default Mail App To Thunderbird?

Sep 7, 2008

Mac OS X Leopard
iPhoto 6
Thunderbird (latest)
iMac 24" 2.16 GHz Core2 Duo

Is there a work-around so that in iPhoto, when you highlight a selection of photos and then hit Mail to email them, you can actually select Thunderbird? Right now, even though Thunderbird is my default mail app, as set in Mail, Thunderbird still isn't an option in iPhoto. There are other ways to email those photos, obviously, but iPhoto is so much easier.

OS X Mavericks :: Attaching Files Crashes Mac Mail And Thunderbird?

Jun 4, 2014

Just upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks 10.9.3 on a 2012 Mac Mini 4 core.  When attempting to add an attachment to an email, both Mac Mail and Thunderbird start with the spinning beachball and never recover.  Force Quit is the only option.  Even after that, the Finder has strange screen artifacts left over from Mail (attach file dialog box) and Finder must be relaunched as well.

Dragging and dropping files works okay with Mac Mail.  This option does not exist when using Thunderbird, so no workaround available for that App.  Also, Mac Mail only gets stuck when attempting to attach files on the desktop.  Files from other locations attach OK.

Already tried Repair Permissions, Repair Disk, Reinstalled Mavericks with no change.  For now, I have gone back to Mountain Lion since this is a deal breaker, even though everything else seems to work ok (except for the occasional brief spinning beach ball).

OS X :: Move Mail To New Mac

May 31, 2009

I have an old Macbook Pro with 10.4 on it and have just bought a new iMac with 10.5 on (of course) and I transfered all my mail over by taking the Mail folder in the user library and copying it to my new computer. So this moved all my mail and accounts. However, my issue is that some of my mail when I click on it in my inbox will appear blank when trying to view it, but they still keep their 'from', 'subject', 'date received' info. Is there a better way of transferring my mail over? Or can I fix it without having too? What can I do?! I still have my mail on my old mac, but I want to get rid of and can't till this is fixed.

OS X :: How To Move Mail.app Emails To Gmail

Sep 22, 2009

I had mistakenly moved my gmail to mail.app - mistake was that I completely cleaned-out my entire Gmail account! I fixed Gmail so that it copies the emails as they go to mail.app, leaving it also in Gmail.

Now I want to restore the 3,000 emails I had cleared out of Gmail BACK into Gmail...can I do this?

Can I move them somehow from mail.app back into Gmail with one sweep, just as I had moved them all into mail.app from Gmail? Or am I skrw'd and have to move them individually by forwarding?

How do I move my e-mail, settings, folders etc. from the Windows Mail application in Vista to Mac Mail? I've exported everything from Windows Mail and tried importing it to Mac Mail, but the only options I have are to import from Thunderbird, Eudora, Entourage and a few others. Windows Mail isn't listed. I've heard Entourage can handle that, but has anyone had experience with doing this? Most of the searching I've done on this subject pertains to Outlook and Outlook Express.

OS X Mavericks :: How To Manually Move Mail Files

Aug 28, 2014

My desktop system (an i3 running Mavericks) will not boot from its internal disk (it simply sits "spinning" its little progress bar at the Apple icon). It also fails to recognize an attached disk that has the Time Machine backups in Recovery mode.

Migration Assistant is worthless. I get part way through (specifying a different user as a destination with the i3 disk mounted in Target disk mode) , it exits, and nothing has changed.

Yet I can mount the iMac desktop and its disks on a laptop (also running Mavericks) in Target disk move, and see all the files on both disks. I have copied some, and they seem to be intact.

So, while I ponder this confusion, I would like to get the most critical info off and onto the laptop. One of those pieces of info is the email contents.

Now Mail files "were" in the users Library as I recall, but I believe things were moved in Mavericks (or maybe even a version earlier).

Does any one have ( and I remember seeing this posted somewhere online, but just can not find it) the steps to manually move the mail folders over to a new machine so that nothing is lost with the most recent Mail file locations?
