View 3 RepliesI am considering purhcasing iLife 09 to upgrade from iLife 08 that came pre-installed on my early-2008 MacBook Pro, as I like the new iPhoto features, (the iLife app I use most frequently out of the entire bundle), but I was wondering if by doing so there is a chance I may lose any files.
For those that did the same 08 to 09 upgrade, did you lose an individual photos from your library, albums altogether, events, slideshows, etc.?
For those that didn't lose them directly in iLife/iPhoto, what about on the HDD itself, and vice versa?
long time reader, first time poster. I know this topic has been beaten to death - but I've read all the post and have not found an answer for my question.
If you have iLife 08 installed and just installed a new copy of iLife 09 - does the following happen?
1. iLife 08 gets removed.
2. All Data from iPhoto 08, iMovie 08, iDVD etc, gets transferred to the new application.
3. No Importing is required to move any of the data over the new version of the software. It just works as if you didn't even have iLife 08 in the first place.
So i have iLife '08 installed and i'm about to install iLife '09. Do i need to uninstall iLife '08 first to install iLife '09?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTo anyone who has bought iLife 11, how did you upgrade from 09? I cannot seem to find any documentation regarding this procedure on Apple's support site.
Do you first have to uninstall 09 and then install 11 or can you do an in place upgrade? By this I mean, can you simply install iLife 11 over top of iLife 09?
I did a spotlight launch of imovie and i clicked on it, and imovie 08 is still in my system. Would it be safe to delete the imovie 08/ idvd 08/garage band 08 so it does not interfer with 09. I just dont wanna loose any of my info, i just dont want both on the system, getting confused with them opening up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen the recent ilife 09 (8.0.1) update appears in Software Update people of both ilife 09 and ilife 08 reported that it appeared for them. My question is, is it safe to apply this update for those who are on ilife 08?
I've just checked my Software Update and found the ilife 09 update, and I don't have ilife 09, I only have ilife 08.
I have a quick question about the iWork '09 Retail box (for those of you who bought it). I downloaded the iWork '09 trial from Apple's website. When I launched Pages I was greeted with the Buy or Try screen. I bought myself a serial number. I have noticed now, that when I go into any iWork app if I click Pages/Keynote/Numbers in the menubar next to the Apple logo, I get the menu for About, Preferences, Register iWork, Quit, etc. I know that the retial box copies no longer require a serial number. My question is this: does the retail iWork disc still show "Try iWork..." as a greyed out menu option under the Pages/Keynote/Numbers menu? For the trial (that was bought with a legit serial, it does) So I was wondering if the retial box version does also? Like this:

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.
I am thinking about upgrading to iLife 09. If I buy the discs and install, do they overwrite iLife 08 or will I then be able to choose between the two groups of applications?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhenever I open disk utility, I need to choose between 'calculate image checksum (CRC-32)' and ' calculate image checksum (MD-5)' before I can open disk utility. I always click on either one of them because otherwise disk utility won't open. I am wondering what it means. I called the Apple support about it, but the girl on the phone didn't see it on her computer and couldn't find any info about it.

I installed Snow Leopard about a month ago. Ever since I installed it the Dictionary.app program doesn't work anymore. It tries to start up and then shut down and sends a report to apple (which they obviously don't do anything with it). So, I tried to reinstall the dictionary using Pasifist. After it unpacks the dictionary.app package it gives me two checksum errors. 1. Checksum for file
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've tried downloading OSX Lion from the App Store about 4 times one of them was while it was hard wired directly to the modem using Verizon Fios service. I've tried creating a thumb drive without sucess several times and keep getting a "Restore Failure, invalid argument" error message. The dvd (dvd-r) I was trying to burn I get a "invalid checksum" error message and won't burn also. what I can do to get myself a burned copy of Lion so I can slick my hard drive and start all over?

So I bought Leopard family-pack and installed on 4 Macs (and de-installed one). All installs were "clean installs". And all yielded Leopard WITHOUT iLife products (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.).
Now people tell me that they also did "clean installs" and iLife was present afterwards.
The only difference I can judge is that I used a family pack whilst the others used a "single licence" pack.
Can anyone provide some light into this?
I wiped my computer, and then I installed Snow Leopard. When I installed Snow Leopard, no iLife programs were on it anymore. (Garageband, etc)
I have Snow Leopard as an upgrade from leopard (which came with my laptop.) It's a 15" Macbook Pro.
so, is iLife included on the original discs that came with the computer? (Leopard) or does it only come pre-installed and after/if i wipe it, gone forever?
I just want to know, if i used my Leopard disc, would I be able to get it back?
Was it only not there because I installed directly from my Snow Leopard disc?
Where is the choice to use Entourage in ilife 11 , using iphoto for sending pictures . the old ilife was so much better thought out and laid out , wish i had not installed it so soon.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my update disc, but when I put it in, it just sits there cranking for a minute or so and then ejects the DVD. I made sure my software was updated first, and did a shut-down ... but it still just ejects it.
I zapped the PRAM ... and then it did hold on to the disc a lot longer, but it just cranks and cranks and then ejects. I did put in a music CD just to make sure it wasn't the CD driver, but the CD opened and played just fine. Any ideas on why iLife '11 won't install?
Is there an upgrade path from iLife 08 to 09 or is the only way to get 09 to go out and buy the full version?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am considering buying a new macbook pro and i see that there is an option to get iWork 09 with it. What i am wondering, or assuming, is that iLife 09 comes with it. However after reading this forum i have seen that iLife isn't scheduled to be released until somewhere from Jan 20th to Feb. Would ordering it now mean getting the old iLife and having to pay for the new upgrade or is it best to wait until it has definately been released.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just registered iLife 09 on the Apple site, however, what is the point? I can see the point of tethering software with a serial number to Apple, but how do Apple know I actually bought iLife when I registered it? Surely someone could just look on the box and find the part number which obviously isn't unique and register it that way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is more of a rant, sorry if it's not in the right place. But, does anyone else think it's pretty weak of Apple to charge their customers to upgrade? I know it's only $10, but I bought a new macbook two days ago... iLife 09 was already out, I feel like it should have been free. I understand if a customer buys an Apple computer before it's released... but not after. Especially when you're spending well over $1000, $2000 for MBP buyers.

I don't have iLife 09 on any system discs, and now I can't open my iPhoto library on my Mac Pro.
With iLife 11 reportedly close, I am really reluctant to shell out for another copy. Is there any way to move my iPhoto and iWeb from my MBP to my Mac Pro? I tried dumping iPhoto into applications but that wasn't enough. I only backed up my Home directory and not my system or system library.
iWork and iLife only let me secondary click once before I can no longer secondary click.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Leopard, the late edition of 09, or was it '08, in October? Anyhow, I am going tomorrow to upgrade to Snow Leopard mainly so that I can have iLife 11, but it is not compatible with Leopard. My question is this when I am installing the new stuff, do I need to go thru and delete anything at all??? Or do my things transfer over automatically? Also, will this new software, or is it hardware? will it take up more space on my Macbook or does it override Leopard, kind of take it's place and not take up more space on my computer? Yeah, I know, once again, lay(wo)man's terms and I know that I should know this stuff but I don't. I also do not have any external device backing up my stuff, which I know is a HUGE and COLOSSAL mistake. Is there an easy way to back stuff up, online or something? What about an inexpensive way? What do you all suggest for that, backing up, INEXPENSIVELY? Flash drives are out of the question for something of this measure, right? Discs also? I know nothing about this and I'm guessing that before I go installing Snow Leopard & iLife 11, that I need to consider this.

Any advice for me before I install ilife 11 (with iPhoto 11 in it)?
So far i have backed up all her pics (not her library) to an external NTFS HD (i had to use some software to make that happen BTW but thats another headache)
How would i go about backing up her 09 iPhoto library which i assume includes albums she has made, printed photo book projects she made, edited pictures etc.... ?
and onto the real question - is iPhoto 11 (iLife 11) not worth the purchase price? can i put the 50 bucks to better APPLE use?
