Applications :: Upgrading To Snow Leopard For ILife 11

Nov 10, 2010

I have Leopard, the late edition of 09, or was it '08, in October? Anyhow, I am going tomorrow to upgrade to Snow Leopard mainly so that I can have iLife 11, but it is not compatible with Leopard. My question is this when I am installing the new stuff, do I need to go thru and delete anything at all??? Or do my things transfer over automatically? Also, will this new software, or is it hardware? will it take up more space on my Macbook or does it override Leopard, kind of take it's place and not take up more space on my computer? Yeah, I know, once again, lay(wo)man's terms and I know that I should know this stuff but I don't. I also do not have any external device backing up my stuff, which I know is a HUGE and COLOSSAL mistake. Is there an easy way to back stuff up, online or something? What about an inexpensive way? What do you all suggest for that, backing up, INEXPENSIVELY? Flash drives are out of the question for something of this measure, right? Discs also? I know nothing about this and I'm guessing that before I go installing Snow Leopard & iLife 11, that I need to consider this.

Applications :: Lose Any Files After Upgrading From ILife 08 To ILife 09?

Oct 28, 2009

I am considering purhcasing iLife 09 to upgrade from iLife 08 that came pre-installed on my early-2008 MacBook Pro, as I like the new iPhoto features, (the iLife app I use most frequently out of the entire bundle), but I was wondering if by doing so there is a chance I may lose any files.

For those that did the same 08 to 09 upgrade, did you lose an individual photos from your library, albums altogether, events, slideshows, etc.?

For those that didn't lose them directly in iLife/iPhoto, what about on the HDD itself, and vice versa?

OS X :: Mac Box Set - Snow Leopard & ILife 11

Oct 23, 2010

I'm on Tiger 10.4.11 w/ iLife 06 (on C2D iMac). Everything works great! I'd probably stick with Tiger as it's been very good and stable. However I'd like to get an iPad but see that syncing the iPad with a Mac/OSX requires 10.5 or newer. I figure if I'm going to upgrade I might as well get current with 10.6. Seems people have had mixed results with getting the $30 upgrade disk and going direct from Tiger to SL. I don't mind getting the "Box Set" from Apple. $130 isn't the end of the world. Couple question maybe someone could help with regarding the Box Set: Can I do an in place upgrade of OS and iLife with the Box Set? If in place upgrade fails or performance isn't quite what I expected can I then do a clean install? A friend said his SL performance was much better after he did a format and clean install as compared to when he did the upgrade (from Leopard) on his MacBook Pro.) I will backup my info. Is there anything to worry about with exporting or backing up iLife apps (iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBand), Email, Address Book, etc in Tiger then restoring in SL and iLife 11?

OS X :: ILife 09 Updates For Snow Leopard?

Aug 15, 2009

Does anyone expect to see updates come to iLife 09 to extend support for OpenCL and Grand Central shortly after Snow Leopard is released? Or do you imagine this will be held off until iLife 10? iLife features some of the most resource intensive apps (iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto) used by most users so I believe that Apple could really showcase the improvements brought to Snow Leopard from both OpenCL and Grand Central by doing this asap. Here's to hoping we don't have to wait long for this functionality.

OS X :: Get ILife 08 - After Fresh Installation Of Snow Leopard?

Aug 27, 2009

How do I get iLife 08 (which came preinstalled) onto my Mac after I do a fresh installation of Snow Leopard (if possible)? Is it possible to do a fresh install of Snow Leopard? I've heard all sorts of things, but I don't know what to believe. Will I just have to reinstall Leopard and then install Snow Leopard? (Will I have to get all the updates [10.5.x updates] once Leopard is installed before I install Snow Leopard?)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Re-installing ILife From Snow Leopard

Feb 22, 2012

I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2011), which had Snow Leopard on it and came with iLife installed. I've installed Lion onto this machine (initially from the app store, but I had to re-format and re-install). My question is: How do I get iLife back onto Lion?

I've looked in the app store, however on iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band the button doesn't say "Install", but rather "Accept". Pressing this prompts me to put in my password, and then says "Future versions of this app can be downloaded from software update." However, software update has no new updates. How do I get these back?

OS X :: Recent Snow Leopard Upgrade - Functionality Of ILife Again?

Jun 26, 2010

the title vaguely suggests I've recently made the upgrade from OsX Leopard to the Snow Leopard. In doing that, I did a clean install (as in I made a backup, and then wiped my HDD and then installed Snow Leopard) and Now, foolishly realised that iLife isn't a "App" but rather a $80 software purchase. So, I tried to copy + paste (yes yes, I'm a noob - but this is how I understood it would work) iPhoto (as its the App I wish to use, so I can view my iPhone photos on my Mac) and it's now mentioning I can't open this program as I don't have iLife 09'.
So, short of repurchasing the software package. Is there any method for me to have the functionality of iLife again? I've tried to locate individual updates from the Apple support site, but the version I tried, 8.1.2 I believe. Was not needed, again due to iLife 09' not being installed. And I don't wish to sit through downloading numerous updates in the hope I may find the correct one.

Software :: Mail Bombs On Opening After Install Of Snow Leopard & ILife?

Apr 5, 2010

My hard drive died and was replaced a week or so a go. The technician in the iSpot store (the substitute for Apple Stores in Warsaw, Poland) installed Snow Leapord and apparently did not install iLife. After I restored using Migration Assistant from my Time Machine, the iLife programs and Mail would not load.

I took it back and the tech reinstalled reinstalled OS 10.6 and iLife'09. I restored again from Time Machine the the iLife programs then would load and work fine, but Mail is still bombing. Here is what it says in relevant part in the window that appears after clicking on Mail in the dock.

I have tried to reinstall iLife'09 and still get this message.

Does anyone have suggestions for what to do? How do I get it to find the "suitable image"?

OS X V10.4 :: 10.4.11 Upgrading To Snow Leopard / DVD Won't Load

Apr 2, 2012

I could use a bit of help updating my macbook from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. I have 10.4.11 and i'm updating to 10.6, Snow Leopard. I've already checked basic requirements, backed up and i'm ready to install.I chatted with a apple specialist when I purchased the dvd for snow leopard and asked if it was what i needed to upgrade all three of my macs; 2 running 10.5.8 and one running 10.4.11. They said yes. I had no trouble updating the machines running 10.5.8.But the one running 10.4.11 isn't so easy. The trouble is the install DVD will not boot and just shuts down the hard drives (the machine says 'restartto begin install' but when i restart the dvd spits out on restart). Does anyone know how to get the disk to install? Mounting the disk didnt work either, it allows me to begin the installation but then the machine reboots.

I'd done some research previously and was told by Apple that i needed to get the Box Set in order to upgrade my machine running 10.4.11. However according to apple's support forums url... the Snow Leopard upgrade should work. I just don't know if there are special steps.

I am using Snow Leopard but am trying to upgrade to Lion.  I went to the App store, clicked on Buy Lion, put in apple id, confirmed my billing info and clicked on Done. Nothing happened but it went back to the OS Lion page and the little gear wheel at the top of the page has been spinning ever since, been at least 15 minutes now.  Is it downloading or is the wheel just spinning and I am wasting my time?  I knew it would take some time to download, but I does that spinning wheel mean that is taking place?
