I used to have an app that allowed me to back-up my ipod to files so that I could restore my IPod in the event of a crash>reset. But I cannot remember what it was called. Also want to repopulate itunes with my whole iPod library.

My granddaughter has a formated iPod for windows and her computer crashed. The iPod is having problems. She would like to backup her music, but she doesn't have access to a computer. Can I use my iBook running Mac OSX 10.3.9? Is there any software that will let me do this for free? I would like to give her a DVD of her music if possible.

View 1 Replies View Related(Using Snow Leopard 10.6.2). Over the last 12 months or so, I've managed to fill up the "Backups.backupdb" file on the external HD to about 400GB. I'm pretty confident that I have all these files safely backed-up (in other other files) on the same external HD. So, I thought I'd have a clear-out and get rid of the contents of this "Backups.backupdb" file on the external HD. I followed the instructions on this page: [URL]
So, I could see (after I did it), that when I entered into Time Machine (with the timeline and universe landscape backdrop) all the files had gone. But when I looked into the "Backups.backupdb" file on the external HD, the files were still there, so I highlighted them all, and placed them into the Trash. I've not emptied the trash yet, but before I do, I just wanted to ask, was is this ok to do, or can it cause problems to just delete the files from the "Backups.backupdb" file on the external HD?
For the last 6 months my Mac has been a nightmare to use. It keeps randomly finding files to Corrupt - usually a purchased itunes file - music, video, podcast, etc. So every time I go and sync my music library it randomly picks a file to corrupt which ends up stopping the sync. This happens when I try and use Time Machine, backup iPhoto, copy my files to an external drive, etc. And I've used disc repair as well. And it'll sync one device fine but then decide it's corrupted on another. It renders my Macbook practically useless if I can't work with my files. I ran disk utility and there's nothing wrong with my HD.

Right now I am excluding the system library and user library cache folders from backup at the moment. Thats ok right? It doesn't affect boot ability or anything else serious right?

Time Machine sounded ideal but seems to have issues with FileVault (if I wasn't on the same network as the NAS the logout process took >15 minutes, presumably whilst it looked for it).
I'm currently using the bundled Memeo Backup software. It works okay except it doesn't have any way to delete old files from the backup and is rapidly consuming space on the NAS.
I have this old iPod. It has a ton of good music on it and I like it a lot. The only problem is that the battery has worn down from years of use. The other problem (ok I lied about there only being one) is that my new MacBook does not have the music files that my iPod does. I heard it was illegal to take files from an mp3 and transfer them to computers. Is that even true? I would really like to copy the files from the iPod onto my new MacBook.

I deleted a bunch of MP3 files from my hard disc, but they will not disappear from my iPhone and iPod, even after synchronizing. I think I know why: I deleted the MP3s from my hard disc but not from my iTunes Library. I don't want all the hassle of figuring out which songs I deleted and deleting them from my iTunes Library, I just want them to disappear from the iPhone/iPod and free up the space.
I am thinking of deleting ALL the songs on my iPhone/iPod and then syncing it again. Is there an easier way?
I am the owner of a shiny new iMac , aluminum and all. I am ready to do more heavy duty resource demanding things that my trusty but aged G4 Powerbook can't handle too well. One of them is video conversion. I have a huge database and collection of avi files that I need to convert to iPod format (I think that's MP4?). Can someone recommend a good program? I am running out of space on my laptop so I am moving all my music to an external hard drive. If I keep my file directory structure and naming the same, can I simply "re-point" iTunes to this new storage location and all my songs (etc...) will keep working in iTunes? Will storing the music on an external hard drive effect the performance (speed) of iTunes and/or iPod syncing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to the iPhone OS 3.0 on my 1st gen iPod Touch and when I turn the volume up whilst it's in the iPod Hi-Fi, the volume dips when I've finished turning it up... When I push the volume up again the volume slider on the iPod touch then moves down to where it dipped.it's quite hard to explain! Basically, when I turn the volume up to 50%, the sound dips to 25%.... the slider still shows 50% until I press the volume up button and it would move the slider to 25%. (If I wanted to play my music at 50% I would have to turn it up to 75% and wait for it to dip to 50%!)I have reset the iPod touch and restored it but the problem still exists. OS 1.0 and 2.0 didn't have this problem. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a solution?

i back up about 725 gb if stuff and when i go to run my TM it tells me i only have 150 or so GB of space to back up the aforementioned 725gb.
Maybe i misunderstood TM, but cant i back up multiple days without using the same size of backup? i.e. i back up january 1st, december 1st and november 1st and it wont need 2.175 TB of space?

I tried using VLC to export the flv files as mp4 or mov, but when I play the file on Quicktime, only the audio works. When I export the file to iTunes, the file goes to Music, not Movies, and only audio plays. How can I fix this without having to download anything new?
