I like the Top Sites feature. However, I don't like that Safari checks if the site has changed since my last visit. It destroys the feature of many forums to just show me the posts which were added since my last visit
View 5 RepliesI have a site that won't auto-fill. I've deleted cookies, cache, and any reference to the site. I've taken out my keychain entry which I had to enter manually. I sign in manually, click the checkbox that sets the cookie with my login email, and login. It won't ask me to save to the keychain. So I enter a new keychain entry manually, and it won't work.

Is there a way to disable hard drives from automatically going to sleep mode (spinning down). Energy saver (System preferences) already has "put hard disk(s) to sleep whenever possible) turned off, so this must be done from the drive itself. The drives in question are a 3.5" ATA drive from Western Digital (WD5000AAKB) and a 2.5" Seagate SATA drive (Disk utility doesn't tell me which drive model it is, so I have to physically open the enclosure to find out). They're both placed inside external Firewire 800/USB enclosures.

I was able to remove Private Browsing from Safari 3 but am unable to find out how to remove it from version 4. I have Snow Leopard and have installed Xcode Tools. It seems that most of the browsers are starting to add Private Browsing to their software.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, Safari was acting up and being super slow, so I decided I'd try to see what happens when I turn Flash off. Well, the internet flys now. It seems SOO much faster. Its no wonder Apple doesn't support it. I really like how fast everything is now. Anyways, the point of this thread is: 1) Apple is smart to not support Flash 2) Try disabling Flash in Safari, it makes the internet so much faster.

I'm on Windows 7 atm, I've noticed for a while, that when I hold my mouse over safari 4 in the task bar, the thumbnails pop up of each tab but all but the selected tab are black!
So if I have 3 tabs, and I am in Tab 1, hold my mouse over safari 4 icon, I see tab 1 preview, but tab 2 and 3 are black, if I am in tab 2, tab 1 & 3 are black, and tab 2 is just fine.
Does anyone know why?
How should I do to open Safari with a blank page and not with the previews one?
I use Safari 5.1.6 and Mac OS 10.7.4

Well for all the main sites I visit with safari they load up fine. But one site and only one doesn't display correctly. It shows up fine in firefox but not in safari. I can use the site alright in safari but I would like it if I could make it display correctly. And I really don't feel like switching over to firefox because I prefer using safari. So is there any way I can fix this issue without having to switch browsers every time I visit the site.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have close to 30 sites in my keychain, but one will not remember login info. When I had first joined the site, it worked fine. Unfortunately it had not synched my login info using the cloud to my iPod touch. I had of course forgotten the recommended suggested password (letters, numbers & symbols), and so had a password request sent to my phone. Again unfortunately the cloud did not resend the password to my computer, so I just ended up creating my own easy to remember password. It was recalling the strange passwords, but wouldn't put my password into my mac. It also began to stop asking to save passwords from that site altogether. I ran keychain first aid, & I trashed the Keychain Access.plist. I didn't reset my Default Key Chain button, because I don't to loose all of my saved info.

Safari 4 seems to provide a warning when Google has tagged a website with potential Malware. I don't know if this Malware is Mac or PC but thought it was interesting. I've attached a screenshot to see what I mean.
in firefox, if you type two words in the URL bar, it will pickup the site. For example, my firefox will list every url i've been to in order of popularity if type mac - (it will show macrumours, apple, 9to5mac, etc)
if i type mac on safari it will list all url's beginning with the word mac.
How do i get safari to behave like firefox? You can see the benefits of firefox as getting to a url you don't quite remember is easy.
I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there a way via an add-on or setting to have Safari perform a "Reset Safari" when you close Safari and/or have "Private Browsing" enabled when you a launch Safari? Similar to the functionality that FireFox has where you can clean up automatically after your session using "Clear Private Data." In FireFox there is a preference for it but I didn't see anything like that in Safari - leading me to believe there might be a hack or add-on that will do it.

However, along with mouse gestures, the thing that is really holding me back is that there doesn't seem to be auto-scrolling. The little icon that pops up when you press the middle mouse button and scrolls the page automatically. Is there really no auto-scroll or am I missing something?

I even input ID's at websites which aren't held the next time around. Can I get Safari to act like FF when it comes to saving tabs, site Id's, and such.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that when I start to type a URL in the URL field in Safari 5, it behaves differently than before. For example, before, if I typed "app" in the URL field and hit enter, it would automatically fill in "[URL:..] and load the site. That's because Apple's site was the only site in my bookmark list that started with "app". Now when I type "app", it fills in [URL:..] instead, because that site's DESCRIPTIVE TEXT begins "Apple, Macintosh...". So now, it assumes the letters I type in the URL bar are to help me find a site based on the "descriptive" text, instead of the actual URL text. I really hate this new behavior. I looked for an option or preference to change, but found nothing. Any of you know how to revert this behavior, or if it is even possible to do so?

I use auto-fill on Web page forms very frequently. Of course, every time I auto-fill my address info, my original house number comes up, and I have to edit it to the new number. I've searched around, but I have not been able to locate where the data for filling in the forms are kept, or any procedure available for changing what data Safari uses to auto-fill. Does anyone know how to accomplish this feat?

I'd prefer not to use SafariStand, and I don't want to use Glims (buggy). I'm not here to debate their merits. The features I want are for Safari's download manager to close automatically, and for all links to automatically open in new tabs.
What I'm wondering is: are there any other plug-ins that offer these features for Safari 4 running Snow Leopard? Are there any tweaks to the system that don't involve plug-ins? As in, are there some terminal commands that can emulate these settings somehow?
When I search for something in the Google-toolbar in Safari (5.0.1), it does not autocomplete the words anymore. I'm guessing I turned the auto-complete feature off by accident. I have no idea how to turn it back on. I'm on 10.6.4
