May 6, 2012Upgraded my MacPro 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon to Lion so that I can take advantage of icloud functions that apparently won't work with my present OS. I did a clean install of the Lion OS, and began to selectively reinstall application programs. I inserted the install disc for my Logic Studio Application, an application which was not cheap, and I am met with the above message when I try to install the software. (Actually, "you can't open the application LogicStudio.mpkg because powerpc applications are no longer supported")Under the system requirements, I find my machine within the guidelines. Also, this software worked fine on this mac machine when I was running the Leopard OS. What is "PC" about my Dual Intel processors?

May 12, 2012I'm trying to help a friend. She has a Mac desktop (tower, not an iMac); a G4 running 10.5.8. When we try to download and install any apps (she needed Skype but I also tested Wunderlist), the .dmg opens a disk image okay, but the app itself has a forbid line through it. I copy it over to applications, but when I try to start it, I get the message (her system is in French) to the effect that the "application was not incorporated into the architecture of the system" (my translation). I checked all the settings on her account and she doesn't seem to have any parameters blocking her (like parental controls) from downloading or installing. She doesn't have any antivirus stuff running, as far as I can tell from her login items. I created an account for myself, with administrator privileges, then shut down and logged myself in. The same thing happened to me: not able to install any software. Back in her account, I ran disk utilities to fix permissions, and I updated all her software.

OS X :: Installing Tiger Over Leopard / Freezes - Hard Reboot From Power Switch
Oct 31, 2010I have a 17" iMac G4 that I was rung Tiger with, then I installed Leopard 10.5. I use this as a second computer. All is fine except that my Epson scanner does not work with 10.5. I've tried the latest drivers. I'd like to reinstall Tiger. I used the 10.5 disc to reformat the drive and start from square one. When I boot from my original Tiger disc it starts opening it's windows, but when I get to the point where I can choose Install or use Disk Utility to reformat from the Tiger disc, all windows freeze and I need to hard reboot from the power switch. Am I correct to assume that 10.5 won't let 10.4 to reinstall. Is this correct?

Mac Pro :: Installing Applications Other Than OS Boot Drive / Moving Application Folder To New Drive
Apr 20, 2009I have two WD 640gigs and the stock WD 500, and I am having trouble deciding on the the optimum configuration. I am open to suggestions. I use my computer for general use as well as for my video editing and graphic design hobbies if that info helps.
I am curious as to the benefits of of the following:
Drive 1 (640)
partition 1: 150gig for OS
partition 2: Bootcamp
remainder: Offline storage
Drive 2 (640)
partition 1: Applications
remainder: music/photos
(scratch disk here?)
Drive 3: (500)
Time machine
Would there be a noticeable benefit to having the applications being separate from the OS boot drive? What if anything else should be split across multiple HDs to increase speed? I've heard of moving the swap file from elsewhere on the forum but I am not sure as to what exactly that is nor the benefits of doing it.
My final question(s) is how exactly I could go by moving my application folder to another drive separate from the OS drive? Just drag and drop? What is this deal with making an alias?
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Since Installing Lion, Mac Keeps Reverting To A Lower Resolution?
Mar 24, 2012I have a 2010 mini that shipped with Snow Leopard. I hooked up to my TV with display set at 1080p and had no problems for a year and a half. I just installed Lion, though, and a few times now, when the computer wakes up from sleep, it has changed to a lower resolution. I can go back into System Preferences and change it back, but I don't think I should have to. This is a Mac, after all.

May 18, 2012I am trying to run a .app via crontab that will run even if I, or any user, is not logged into the Mac. It's a piece of software designed to transfer a specific dataset on a scheduled interval to another server in order to keep my client's data up to date. I can get the application to run just fine via cron if I am logged into the machine, but if I log out when the cronjob runs, I get this error in my log:Â

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Delete An Application That Says It Cannot Be Deleted?
Feb 6, 2012I installed a game called PlaneShift and now want to uninstall it. It does not appear to have an uninstaller. When I try to move the file the client is in, the client itself, or any of the other files in the folder to the trash I get a message that says this cannot be done because the file cannot be deleted. The file stays where it was and nothing happens. The file is not locked nor is the application running. I even downloaded CleanMyMac to delete it which would claim to have done the job yet the folder and everything it it would still remain. Googling it yielded some commands to put in to the terminal to delete it with the root account
