Applications :: How To Hide Application Extensions

Nov 24, 2009

How can I "hide" the .app extensions for my apps? I know it doesn't effect anything but it's a nuisance to my eyes. Also anything that has to do with iLife doesn't have the extension.

OS X :: How To Hide All Extensions

Sep 30, 2007

I know I can go into each individual file and bring up the "get info" window, then click "hide extension" but I want to hide all extensions for all my files (including anything I download in the future). Is there a setting I can go into so that it will do this for me?

OS X :: How To Configure Leopard To Hide File Extensions

Dec 18, 2008

How do you configure Leopard so it automatically hides all file extensions? I've gone to Finder/Preference/Advanced and unchecked the 'show all file extensions' option, but it does nothing. To remove the file extensions, I literally have to go into each individual file. There has to be some way around this, but I'm new to OS X. As far as I can tell, extensions are showing for most (if not all) file types (e.g. avi, pdf, rtf, doc, docx, etc.).

OS X :: Unable To Hide All (Downloaded) Files Extensions

Anyway, is there any way to be able to hide all file extensions in OS X 10.4.11? I have the "Always show file extensions" check box *un*checked, but now, on downloaded files most of the time the extensions show. No major problem, I just like everything to be clear and not messed up with .ppt and .dmg.

Software :: Can Hide An Open Application's Icon From The Dock

Jul 13, 2010

To the point... I use TimeOut to remind me to get up and move, while I am on my computer. It is a handy app that will make the screen go blank for how ever long I set my breaks to last.

The thing is... I don't need the application icon to sit in my Dock taking up space telling me the application is open. I know it is open since it tells me to get up and stretch every 20 minutes by blanking my screen.

So, is there any way to take the application's icon off the Dock while still leaving it open?

OS X :: How Do I Check If I Have 64-bit Incompatible Extensions/applications

Sep 9, 2009

Just doing some pre-SL install research. I'm curious about running the kernel in 64-bit mode. I have a mid 2009 13" MBP so the hardware should be able to boot into the 64-bit kernel. I don't use a whole ton of 3rd party applications and not many external peripherals so I think I might be able to get away with k64.

But, is there a way for me to check for sure? How do I know if certain apps or peripherals/extensions are not 64-bit? If I click on the apps and use "Get Info" will that tell me? Perhaps there is a list somewhere similar to the SL compatibility wiki that tells people's experiences with 64-bit compatibility. What if I boot into k64 and try to run an incompatible item, will the OS tell me so, or just crash, or just not work, or what?

As far as peripherals:
iPod touch 2G
Mighty Mouse (bluetooth)
i1 Display2 colorimeter
Dell 2209WA
Ruahrc

Applications :: Safari 5 - Extensions / Search Bar

Jun 15, 2010

Two simple questions:

1) Does anyone know when, in particular, the extensions gallery will go live? Later this summer is a bit vague. I'm waiting on a few crucial extensions (e.g., AdBlock, WOT, Xmarks).

2) Concerning the Search Bar (Bing, Google, Yahoo!), will I be able to add additional search fields via the extensions gallery (provided someone creates them, of course)?

I presently use firefox and found the 'MyCroft Project' to be absolutely invaluable. It allows me to search common websites without having to navigate to them directly (url). If I can get this added capability, I will switch over for good!

Obviously, it runs with WebKit nightlies which Saft does not, that's a point. As for adblocking - is Safariblock state of the art, or do you recommend something else?

Applications :: Safari Extensions Gallery - Lack Of Developers

Aug 2, 2010

The selection of Apple approved extensions is dismal at best. Am I the only one who was expecting a bit more selection, especially given the additional wait time after the launch of Safari 5? How does Apple expect Safari 5 to compete with Firefox when it has so few (approved) extensions? Since the launch of the extensions gallery, I haven't seen much change in the available offerings, even though there is still a wealth of non-approved extensions out there. So what gives? Is it a lack of developers? Is Apple being too stringent in its method of approving extensions?

Software :: Hide Applications Bug (still There)?

Aug 25, 2007

I have this bug. It is extremely intermittent, and apparently most people never notice it.

User "moot" mentioned it 2 1/2 years ago: Hide applications bug

Basically, I tried to Hide (cmd-m) an app, and at doesn't hide. But when I click on the app to go back to it, then it hides. After that, I can't get it to unhide. It usually requires a force-quit, with loss of unsaved files.

Has anybdy seen this behavior? Any clue about cause, or cure?

The only commonality I see with moot's system, is that we both use DragThing 5...
