I've used PowerPoint extensively for at least 10 years. I want to view my notes on my MacBook Pro desktop, while hiding them from the audience. I seem to recall seeing this option somewhere, but can't find it. Is anyone familiar with this?

I have Office 2007 Home and Student installed on Win XP pro through Bootcamp/Parallels. Everything works great except the dual screen presenter tools in PowerPoint. When booted into Windows on my MBP, no matter how I configure the second display in the control panels, PowerPoint refuses to present the slides on the external display, going to the projector. It always presents on the laptop screen, leaving the desktop image on the external output.
I know the second monitor is set up correctly, I can drag windows over to the other screen. The only way I can present is if I mirror the displays, but I'm so used to using the presenter tools in Office 2008 on the Mac side, and I need to be able to jump quickly to specific slides without the audience seeing it. Choosing the second monitor in the ribbon does nothing, and even weirder is that when I check "use presenter tools" it un-checks itself immediately.
My school provides students with PDF versions of the powerpoint slides that the professors use in lecture. Many students print them out and take notes on them, a system which I dislike because that wastes paper, and I like to keep my notes organized on my computer. I currently take notes using Microsoft Word's notebooks which is okay, but I end up rewriting things that are on the slides. Sorry for the long winded intro, but my question is are there any programs available that would allow for the addition of texts to the PDFs. I know how to do it with Adobe Software, but I was hoping that someone could clue me into a simpler solution for in-class note taking. Adobe's programs are all have more features than I need on a daily basis, I would like a program simpler and more streamlined.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo i take most of my notes using powerpoint... and I'd like to be able to record audio as well. The problem is that in powerpoint, the record features are horrible. You can record a presentation, but while doing so you cant edit the powerpoint document...and the audio drops out.
Any students or professionals out there who have a good solution to this?
I'd love it if i could easily just record audio for each slide, and take notes at the same times, but this seems to not be easy in powerpoint.
I have been given a ~400 slide Powerpoint Presentation, and need to extract all the text from it.
However, when trying to open it in Powerpoint 2004, it just quits everytime it attempts to open the 90Mb file.
Keynote has had more success, but I really do not want to be copying and pasting every slide into a document.
I got a mac remote so I could show powerpoint presentations by remote, but although I can run all the Mac applications remotely, I can't run powerpoint. I have a MacbookPro running OSX10.6.2. I tried iREd lite without success.

View 1 Replies View Relatedusing iWork 09 (keynote 09) on my macbook pro (2,66 GHz, Intel Core 2 duo, 4GB) and when trying to use keynote presenter view connected to a projector I see the presenter view in the wrong screen, I see it in the projector not on my macbook.Using duplicated view all is fine but of course I dont see the presenter view.

So I make a presentation on Mac Office powerpoint, everything is fine. I open it up at university on the PC, all is fine. I maybe change some text on a slide and save it again. Open the same file again on my Mac, and it won't open some silly error comes up saying trouble accessing file from mac HD.
Then luckily I have keynote, so I just open it in that and use that.
Point is why does this happen?? Whilst keynote is better, sometimes I have to edit things on a PC at work or uni and then it becomes a giant mess on my mac.
Is there a quick fix, or will I have to throw Mac Office into my growing pile of Microsoft related garbage.
can anyone suggest an mac os x app (or mac os x-supported software like OpenOffice et cet.) that will allow me to create marginal or anchored notes in a text document?
i am not interested in MS WORD, not out of any ideological dislike of gates or ms word, et cet. (although i do not like word), but i am tired of paying steep prices for it and upgrades and wish a simpler program for someone who writes, period. i do not need 90% of word's features (although it, and openoffice alternative, does have the "insert note" on reviewing toolbar i like - see below)
if anyone is familiar with what is called "critical apparatus", it would allow me to add what are essentially footnotes in a visible (Jer's Novel Writer) or invisible (WORD and OpenOffice) notes to the text. (btw: here is what i mean: [URL] and click on screenshot at bottom right of screen)
such a feature would be immensely helpful for some translation projects i am doing as well "to check" reminders within creative projects, from essays to novels.
i may be wrong but i don't think bookmarks are what i want and i prefer to avoid footnotes or endnotes (yes - i am selfish. i want it all) although a footnote is not so terrible a work-around.
i have looked at following options in respective apps:
postit/stickies type note - openoffice has a WORD type feature (like the critical apparatus popup window in url above) which is accessible but i would love to have a smaller simpler program to do this
marginal notes - i love Jer's Novel Writer for this but if you write a long note or lots of notes anchored to the same small stretch of text, these marginal notes become cumbersome and piled on top of each other in the margin, unless there is a way to do this i am doing wrong. (am open to suggestions how to use JNW better. i have not written to Jer - maybe i'll do this)
flags: supernotecard has flags but limits them to one per card where a card is funtionally synonomous with a paragraph. thus one can not annotate multiple words in same paragraph with individual markers
links: i am using DEVONthink more and more as a word processor with its multiple windows, database/search/concordance capabilities and extremely rewarding flexibility. i could use their links to separate windows but don't like this as much.similarly voodoopad does this well but same objection
separate windows: many programs facilitate a new window that could hold my notes. they are not anchored or easily tied to the text in question without altering the text, e.g., DEVONthink, Smultron, et cet.
i think i have looked at almost everything, i think, e.g., supernotecard, notemind, nova mind, tinderbox, notetaker (which i love), ulysses, avenir, z-writer, scrivener, smultron, textwrangler, subethaedit, mi, copywrite, bean, textmate (a great "project format" for composite documents like journal or book with chapters), mellel, mariner, JNW (which i also love), nisus, tex-edit plus, all the omnigroup apps, journler, storyist, writeroom, abiword, but may have missed something. programs like curio (which i like, along with omnigrapple pro) and mindburn are not really what i need either.
i guess if i knew enough i could write an applescript within some of these programs. but i am not very facile with scripting and do not want to take the time to become so. i do not think TeX et al. are the way to go and the same comment about time versus learning curve applies.
Does Office 2004 work on a Mac Pro tower with Snow Leopard (10.6.2)?
I haven't had success when trying to install it.
Just wanted to know what wireless presenter the forum members are using with leopard. I had an old kensington presenter that now crashes my powerbook g4 every time I plug in the usb dongle since I upgraded to leopard.

When he opens the program, instead of having a blank document there is box with text in it (see attached picture). Any time you click to open a blank document, this is what you get. He has never used this text before and has had this issue since he installed Office 2004.
Does anybody know how to get rid of this or set the default to a blank document?
I have a MS Word document to which I want to add photos. I've been able to drag the jpegs in question to the right place in the document, position them, and even re-size them. But when it comes to altering their positions--like nudging them a little to the right, they don't move. I've been trying to click on them to grab and then drag, but it doesn't work--they stay put, completely left justified.
View 2 Replies View Relatedso i just got a new 24" imac (midrange) and after instaling the software updates, wanted to get office 2004 on it.
i installed it on my powerbook years ago, on my dad's imac last year, then again on the powerbook after i had to wipe the drive.
now i put it into the superdrive and it keeps on whirring over and over again without actually reading it. it ejects with some help. i put in other dvds and they worked fine. (i put the office dvd into my dad's imac and my powerbook and they were fine, ran setup assistant)
anyone know the problem here? new imac has a bad drive?

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me if there is a good notes application that lets me organise notes into categories/projects/folders. I am looking for something that has both a mac and an iphone version and will sync multiple macs and iPhone over the web using mobile me for example.
I'm not looking for a task manager - I'm already using omnifocus for that and in an ideal world I am looking for something very similar to omnifocus but that is notes based rather than task based.
I'm not looking for a files/documents depository either - I use Evernote for that.
Just need simple text notes..
Edit - I have found Soho Notes which basically does what I want, (mac client, iphone client, notes in folders, mobile me sync) but I find the interface a bit cheesy with all those icons...ideally looking for something a bit more minimalist - I like the look of Mori and Mark/space Notebook but they don't have iphone versions...
Edit2 - Having looked further into Soho Notes, there seems to be a lot of complaints about the syncing and corrupt databases...I have also looked at MacJournal which is along the lines of what I'm after but again quite a lot people having problems with the sync by the sound of it so still looking...
It even plays just fine when in presentation mode on my mac. The problem is when I hook up my mac and run the presentation over a projector. In this instance, the movie just won't run.

There is a lot of "free" unused space. The slides would look better if I could use this free space. If I were on a Windows machine, there is a utility called pdf995 that will take advantage of this "free" space.

I am a new Mac user and am attemptiong to import clip art from the Microsoft Website (via Firefox).Evidently, you need to associate the file type ".cll" with the browser in order for it to open and allow it to be read in the Office application. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do this.The online help topic (from M$) doesn't mention Firefox, but gives instruction for IE and Netscape. The Netscape instructions are below, but I cant figure out if this is something I can do with Firefox...

I'm getting a weird error when I try to open Microsoft Excel 2004. "You can't open the application "Microsoft Excel" because the Classic environment is no longer supported."
1. Excel used to work just fine (I'm not sure if I've used it since I upgraded to Leopard)
2. I've seen other people say on forums that the MS Office 2004 suite works fine with Leopard
3. As far as I know the Classic environment was phased out in Leopard, though I don't think I've ever used the classic environment
4. All my other MS Office Apps work
I'm not having much luck with google, hopefully it's a dumb configuration thing that I don't know about.
I've been using Office X for some time. I bought Office 2004 for Mac (Student Teacher Edition) from a friend who upgraded last May. I got the manual and the Product ID with it. I never got around to Installing it, but my hard drive failed recently and Apple replaced it, obviously without any of my stuff on it. So I decided if I have to reinstall all my software, I'd go ahead and use the Office 2004 as I don't think the Office X is fully compatible with Tiger (because of it's age and a few issues I've had with it over the past two years). Now, here's the problem. When I tried to install it, the product ID didn't work as the Product/CD Key.
I called my friend and she no longer has the box or the Product Key, and of course, the Product key from my Office X doesn't work. Is anyone familiar with Office 2004 for Mac? Is there any difference between the "retail" version and the Student/teacher version that would prevent the Product Key from one with working with the other? Would anyone be willing to share their Product key with me, to install the software so I can get back to work? I've already lost 4 days in time (and have to recreate 2 days worth of work that was done after my last file backup) and don't have time to deal with this stuff.
