View 2 RepliesI'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.
I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?
I have a second user on my Mac Snow Leopard. I have the calculator in my Applications and Dock...he doesn't. How can I get this for the second user? (I recently upgraded with the disc to Snow Leopard..could that be part of the problem?)
View 1 Replies View RelatedWill CS3 design premium install and run relatively smoothly on a brand new snow leopard mac? I primarily use illustrator, photoshop, and indesign, in that order. I'll either be getting an imac or mac mini. I've seen a lot of conflicting information regarding this, everything from "I can't even get it installed" to "it works stupendously!" So, what's the deal? And will I be able to use a new wacom tablet with this set up?

Does anyone know of a list of apps updated specifically for Snow Leopard? More specifically, there is a 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows; will Apple release a 64-bit version for Snow Leopard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if when I install Snow Leopard if it will remove all the Leopard applications and replace them with Snow Leopard-formatted applications, or if it will just edit the applications to work with Snow Leopard. Photo Booth is broken on my computer and I don't want to Archive and Install unless it's the absolute last resort.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new MacBook Pro with SL.
My iCal is behaing exceptionally weird. I can't resize my screen. If i change from month to week it stops showing some events, every time I hit the "Show To-Do's" Button it doesn't work and alot of other bugs that make it absolutely unusable.
I've tried re-installing it from the SL DVD, upgrading to 10.6.1 (from software update AND apple's download page), and even trying to delete all my calendars info form my library. Nothing worked.
I've got a server in a far off land that I occasionally need to download files from via SFTP. I can only max out my connection by uploading back to my home machine from the server. This means that I need a FTP server to run on my home machine. I've successfully used pureFTP before but it didn't seem to work for me on 10.6 and I couldn't find an updated version. I then resorted to purchasing Rumpus....which SOMETIMES works. It seems to timeout an awful lot of the time though. So my question is, does anyone know of any FTP servers than I can run on a Snow Leopard machine that also have a GUI front end (because I'm a coward and hate using Terminal....although will do if an especially good solution is found!)?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust in general home usage I'm finding a variety of general applications ( Safari, photoshop, Excel, etc. etc. ) seem to be a lot more crashy then they should be. This often seems to be linked with 'doing something' such as uploading pictures in safari, printing in excel, saving a photoshop file etc. Just general things like that.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I am using an HP Color Laserjet 3505n. Will snow leopard work with this printer?

I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

Now that Snow Leopard has been out for some time will Grand Central Dispatch ever be used by apps such as Final Cut or Handbrake type apps? Seems like it is a feature that sounded good on paper but developers never really jumped on it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Leopard, the late edition of 09, or was it '08, in October? Anyhow, I am going tomorrow to upgrade to Snow Leopard mainly so that I can have iLife 11, but it is not compatible with Leopard. My question is this when I am installing the new stuff, do I need to go thru and delete anything at all??? Or do my things transfer over automatically? Also, will this new software, or is it hardware? will it take up more space on my Macbook or does it override Leopard, kind of take it's place and not take up more space on my computer? Yeah, I know, once again, lay(wo)man's terms and I know that I should know this stuff but I don't. I also do not have any external device backing up my stuff, which I know is a HUGE and COLOSSAL mistake. Is there an easy way to back stuff up, online or something? What about an inexpensive way? What do you all suggest for that, backing up, INEXPENSIVELY? Flash drives are out of the question for something of this measure, right? Discs also? I know nothing about this and I'm guessing that before I go installing Snow Leopard & iLife 11, that I need to consider this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm unable to update from 10.6.4 Snow Leopard to the 10.6.5 Security Update - either from built-in Software Update, the downloaded 10.6.5 Combo update, or the full 644MB OS X 10.6.5 Update. Using Disk Utility to Verify or Repair Disk Permissions I see the error - "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreS. As been modified and will not be repaired". Also my Mac Mini 2.0Ghz 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD is pretty much on 24/7 and I've rebooted several times after each attempt listed above and running Disk Utility before each reboot and before each attempt.
An aside to this, I'm unable to use the numeric keys above the keypad on my Apple Keyboard Pro [aluminum] for the past 20days. Yes I've checked System Preferences:
Keyboard: Restore Defaults, Full keyboard access = All Controls, Modifier keys = [only Apple Keyboard is selectable], and I've restored defaults, Expose Fkeys have been removed [tried and set back to no avail]. Lastly, I'm unable to use the powered USB ports on my Dell monitor which worked just a few days ago before my wife moved around the desk - doubtful she would've damaged anything [she knows I'm anal about the Mac - I work with PCs]. I'm unsure if all are related and I DO recall having to do the 10.6.4 Combo update from the original shipping Snow Leopard. Have I missed anything to test?

So i didnt really know where else to ask but my lightscribe software is not buring discs correctly under snow leopard. Im currently using the lacie disc labeler. I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem or knows of any other software to try other than disclabel which is working somewhat but only allows me to burn a label the size of half the cd.

I assume an upgrade to SL will not remove any applications i currently run, unless I do a so called "clean install", but I just wanted to be sure: What will get removed when I upgrade?
My applications that are not 64-bit compliant? Will they still work? Will my adobe software still work, or does it need an update? Does any of my applications need an update? I have some custom icons (through Candybary), will they be removed? Will all my personal preferences reset?
Basically, what will an upgrade to Snow Leopard touch and change on my system?
ATM i got Leopard installed, by the way.
