Applications :: Disable Mouseover In Safari?
Oct 10, 2009
I've searched MacRumors and Google, but haven't found anything, so I'm wondering if I'm the only one annoyed by this mouseover that pops up when visiting many news sites, that allows you to share the article on Digg, Del.icio.us, Reddit, Stumbleupon, Yahoo! Buzz, Mixx!, Twitter, etc.:I have SafariBlock, Safari AdBlock and ClickToFlash, but none of them block this mouseover. After looking at the "View Source" data, it appears to be a class called "socialTools"
Quote:
<div class="socialTools">
but I haven't found a way to block a class on a website.
The problem is that the menu pops up when you move your mouse over the "Share" link, but then it doesn't always go away when you move your mouse away from it. I'd prefer it never pops up at all, but haven't found a method to accomplish this.

is there a easy way to switch off flash in safari? ideally i want to switch off safari on a case by case basis. meaning it's off most of the time. but when i think i need it for a special site i want to easily switch it on without any installation.
i want this mainly because i don't like flash and it slows everything down.

I gave my parents my old iMac to use so they can start browsing the web. However, every time they start to type in a web address and safari butts in with its autocomplete history, it confuses the heck out of them and they don't know what to do. So basically I want to completely disable Safari's history, or at the very least, its autocomplete feature. I've looked everywhere and can't find the option for this.

I Installed Safari 4.0.3 but for some reason the Google Suggestions drop down menu is no longer disabled and appears on top of Inquisitor. This is annoying because I prefer to use Google UK.
Does anyone know how to disable Google suggestions in Safari 4.0.3 or as a work around make Safaris default search engine Google UK?

I want to disable private browsing in Safari 4. I already managed to do it in Safari 3 following Mac Guide instructions (http://guides.macrumors.com/Safari#D...ivate_Browsing).
Now I want to do the same in Safari 4. I also downloaded the newest XCode. However, again following the above mentioned instructions I only get an error message saying that it can't open "nibs".
I'd appreciate any help!
[please don't start a general discussion about private browsing. Doing it in Safari 3 was the perfect solution for me. I really love this forum!]

I recently purchased and installed Adobe CS2. With Acrobat Professional comes a Safari plugin that automatically views PDFs in the browser. However, I much prefer the standard Tiger PDF viewer as Acrobat takes forever to load. I've looked everywhere and can't figure out how to disable this feature.

Anyway to disable this? I can in Firefox but can't figure it out in Safari. They're taking them from the bookmarks, not the history, FYI

I guess it's a change with Snow Leopard, but now when I download a .nzb file and try to open it I get the warning message that it's 'an unknown application downloaded from the Internet' (which, of course, it is not) and I have to manually open that. A .nzb file is not an app, but an executable file (launches NZB Drop, for me). The fact is I don't think I've ever had the message fire and not want to open it. I'd prefer to just disable it all together.

I have an issue with my mouse that started a few days ago. My cursor doesn't always change properly when I mouseover certain things. For example, when I hover it above a link, it turns into a pointing hand like it should, when I navigate to the URL bar, it will stay as the hand even after clicking for a short while before changing to what it's supposed to become (the thin bar.) Sometimes it will remain a thin bar when it's supposed to be a black arrow, and so forth. I've tried troubleshooting the issue, but I haven't found much of relevance. One user seemed to be experiencing the same thing albeit only in some pro software I don't use. Mine is system wide. Â
I'm using the trackpad on a 2014 baseline 15" rMBP running Mavericks 10.9.4.Â

I love safari. Its fast, looks great, and does everything I want it to. Outside of poor flash support (I hear macs in general are just bad for flash) everything works. What I don't like in safari is the top sites feature. I don't mind that it keeps track of which websites i visit most often, but I hate how it takes a little snapshot of every website and saves it in the website preview folder in the cache.
I didn't know you had to manually delete it and when I did it was taking up over 1.5 gb of space (/user/library/caches/com.apple.safari/website previews). I don't understand why apple couldn't have just made top sites show your most commonly visited website (like chrome or opera) and instead had to take on the website previews. Is there a way to disable top sites or at least prevent it from saving previews of websites everytime I use it?

I'm running Tiger, so using any new features in Safari 5 for Leopard is out of the question. The reason I wish to do this is because people still use gifs in forums, and some are very obnoxious with large signature gifs that cause safari to beachball.
I've checked around, and there are other threads but they didn't seem to have a conclusion. I tried something called "SafariPlus", but it caused the program to crash before it could open.
I've messed around with PithHelmet, but it's options to disable animations appear to be only for show, unless it refers to flash animations only. It can block them, but usually ends up blocking everything.
I've looked in the Safari preferences .plist file and couldn't see anything. I've unlocked the Develop and Debug menu, but the only option I see is "Disable Images" in the 'Develop' menu. That functionality seems useful, but there's no way I see to edit what images are blocked, it just blocks them all.
I tried copying the line in the .plist file that dealt with disabling images, but changed it to animations. Didn't work lol
Does anyone know any way this could be accomplished in Safari 4.1?

I have never installed Java in Lion, I just don't need it, but I noticed in Safari the tick box for 'enable Java' is still ticked, would turning this off disable prompts to install the JRE, or does it not matter? I find it odd that its listed as enabled in Safari even though Lion does not come with Java installed. Any ideas would be appreciated as reducing any attack vector is always a good move, especially at this time.

I noticed that in Safari (5.1.7) (I'm guessing thats the latest) there are icons for your favorites. Most people said they have them on all of their book marks, but I only have them in bookmark folders. I've tried what I can find on the web to get rid of them, with no working way.

I'm trying to disable Location Services in Safari to prevent those irritating popups that tell me the web site wants to use my location. I'd prefer NOT to turn off Location Services entirely (keeping Find My Mac).Â
In Security & Privacy>Privacy, Safari is unchecked under Enable Llocation Services.Â
From what I've read, there is supposed to be a Safari-specific option, in Safari's Prefences>Privacy "Access to location services" but, somehow, Safari 5.1.7 on my Mac doesn't seem to have that option:
I'm connecting via Ethernet, not wifi, though toggling the latter on doesn't seem to effect the options (from what I understood, the location data is based on wifi mapping).Â

Does anyone know of a way I can disable Java on some sites in Safari, but have it enabled for the rest? I don't see an option natively, but maybe there is a plugin or a plist that can be edited?
The reason is my university uses Blackboard / Vista and every time I log in it asks me if I want to allow it to run. I refuse to do so, and it doesn't have an option to never allow it to run for this site.
Please don't bother posting if you do not know the difference between Java and JavaScript.

Why doesn't Apple discuss what it is going to do with 10.5 (Leopard) other than to say "disable Java?" Why doesnt Apple support its product, i.e., computers running 10.5 still COVERED UNDER APPLE CARE? Why must we disable Java and wait (and pay) for a Leoparad to Snow Leopard upgrade disk to arrive by SnailMail Apple support your products especially when we own over $15,000 of your products. I used to be your biggest fan, suggesting to everyone who would listen that they should "switch over. Why are you ignoring us, still covered

How can I disable the (Command + "Left or Right Arrow") Keystroke in Safari that navigates Back and Forward. If I could also disable the (delete) key from navigating back, I would be happy.Â
I edit text with these keystrokes all the time and now that I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1.5 I run into problems with my workflow.Â
I just want (delete) to delete text and (Command + Arrow Key) to select a whole line of text.
