Nov 15, 2009
I just bought my first mac yesterday, so i'm new to the switch and i don't have a clue what happened but whenever i go to the finder i can't see any option to view my HD? It's not even on the desktop yet everything seems to be working fine. Please could anyone explain how i can get it to appear again?

Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)

Saturday I called AppleCare because my 3rd party Apple Retail changed my display 3 times now.
After a while, the dude said that they would give me a new one.
Now, I dont mind the trip to Montreal to make the exchange but is that possible? Or do I have to ship it?
I will call back the Apple dude tonight but I wonder if any of you got this situation before?

I am hoping someone out there would be willing to assist me by getting a dump of their system SMC keys so I can do a comparison against my system. Ideally it needs to be done on a 2008 Alu 20in iMac with SMC version 1.29f1
You need to have SMCFanControl on your system and know where the smcFanControl.app is located.
Open Terminal
cd to the directory that has the smcFanControl.app
cd smcFanControl.app/Contents/Resources
type ./smc -l
select and copy the output and save/post
exit terminal

When I start my iMAC (OS X) there is a good chance that it WILL NOT pair with my Logitech M555b (Bluetooth) mouse. It IS set to be "discoverable." The Apple mouse's trackball was a constant problem; it had to be cleaned often. Changed to the M555b and now I'm being punished by the MAC gods for my infidelity.

I've got a 2006 mac mini. I've just moved house and am trying to get it to see the local network. My ancient ibook can see the network but my mac mini can't. The network doesn't come up at all whereas I can see 5-6 with the ibook. Does the 802.11a/b/g have something to do with it? I'm really stuck

My IMac is about 1 year old. It is a 20 inch 2.4 intel iMac. It froze today the mouse wouldn't move or anything. My kids were messing around with it. So I just turned it off and back on. After a couple of minutes of gray screen a folder with a question mark flashes over and over again. So I got on my macbook to see what it meant, I found out that the iMac couldn't find its start up disk. So I went to apple support trouble shooting and it said start it up using the install disc which I did. It said go to start up utility and repair the disc. The start up disc doesn't show up, so they said if that happens reset the PRAM, which I did like 3 times, and nothing. They said if all these steps fail just reinstall using the installation disc. Which I did but when it said where would you like to install Mac OS X, you would normally see the Hard Drive Icon and it is gone, there is nothing there.

I will try and keep this short and sweet:
Recently acquired an iMac G5, first time booting up I got the question mark of death screen.
Reinstalled the OS and now it is a 50/50 gamble that it will either boot up or give me a kernal panic message.
Question:Is there a way to tell what is the bad component? If it's the HD or Ram, I think I can replace them easily enough.

I just upgraded my iMac to 10.7.4, and now my wireless connection has started acting really strange. After a very short time of use, my iMac just becomes incapable of finding any network connections -- notice not just my own wireless station, any wireless connection in the area. If I restart it, then I'll be able to connect for a short while but then shortly after, the problem returns. It is extremely annoying. Also, I have both a Macbook Air, an iPhone and an iPad, and I'm having no problems finding my own network and other networks on those.

It seems I have to go a roundabout way in order to connect to the Internet using a USB Dial-Up modem. I thought you could double click on the Safari icon on the Dock and get connected to the Internet. But every time I try to do this, the Diagnostics page keeps cropping up. The only method I have found to get connected is thru the Network folder under System Preferences, which to me is a backhanded alternative to what should be a more direct means by clicking directly on the Safari icon. Is there something wrong with my Internet set-up causing this run around? Also, I am unclear as to whether my 20" screen is setup properly?
Is it true that in order have the sharpest screen readout/visual appearance and still cover the complete display area that everything seems actually smaller than when compared to a 17" inch display usage (which is the size of the LCD monitor I am using with a Power Mac). Finally, what is the best source to find out all about my iMac & its features? The documentation sent is very scant. Aside from the petite booklets (with same information repeated on the computer), is there any extremely pertinent guide I am overlooking that comes with the computer? Any other major sources?
