Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock or an item from the login items and then logout/restart they come right back. It's like OS X is remembering my last login and then just duplicating it. I can't get it to keep it the settings I give it. Google and a quick search of the forums gave me nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThey have terrible file management skills and the short version is that they tend to use the desktop as a documens folder. I'm working on this but in the mean time there is a problem where when they save a file from e-mail or what have you it goes to the desktop. Which has items in the first 8 positions. The ninth position is behind the dock and rather then moving up to the next column it goes right behind the dock.

I have MacBook Pro version 10.9.4. I can't add or delete items on my dock . Whenever I try to press the icon and try to drag it, it shows a option bar. I want to edit my dock, but I can't. I tried to reset my .plist, killall Dock, and set my dock options to default, but the dock still refuses to move.

I have recently had to re-install the operating system, but I can no longer remove items from the dock. I used to be able to drag items off but I can no longer do this. I have Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8. I have tried to repair permissions, but this has not changed anything

For some reason since installing a new OS I can't remove programs from my Dock anymore? I used to be able to just right click on the program and select remove from dock but everything program I now right click on says "show in finder" with no other options to delete it. I've only just recently installed OS X 10.3.9 (I can't remember what I used to have on here as this was a new OS CD).
View 17 Replies View RelatedWhat would be a good way, if possible, to change the colors and such of the icons in my dock? I wanna make them all black and white, with some splashes of red in there. Also, any other parts of my OS that I could customize to the same color scheme would be nice. I have Leopard, 10.5.2, if you need that info.

I don't know what happened but for some reason, I can no longer right click or remove any items from my Dock
I have Onyx installed which has an option to lock the dock, however that is off. I am certain that my dock isn't locked because I am able to move items around the dock, and also add new items
I don't know when this started but it may have been because I was changing the dock's appearance by replacing some of the pictures in the system files (frontline.png, separator.png etc.)
I've restarted my Macbook a couple of times and have also done killall Dock in the terminal but everytime, I still have these two problems
Also, when booting up my Macbook now, the dock takes much longer to load. Before, it would usually be one of the quicker things to bootup but now it is always the last (before Quicksilver was usually the last program to load for me)
I also used a Terminal command to add a "Recent Applications" stack by following instructions posted here:

I've since removed this Stack but the problem still occurs. Don't know whether or not this had an impact or not
How do I get recent items folder into dock?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else got this issue? You have a bunch of files you want to move to trash. You highlight them all, then right click, but "Move to trash" is missing from the menu.
If I highlight just one, the "move to trash" option is there. But disappears when multiple items are selected.
Anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix I can do to get "move to trash" for multiple selected items back?
Lately, my iMac (Snow Leopard, mid 2007) is beachballing quite much and I just discovered one problem with Finder. I have to Move To Trash options (see attachment). I wonder what that comes from and if it could be the reason of the beach balls.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange problem with my dock and dashboard, whenever I add Items to either they quickly vanish, not allowing me to change them. With the dock, I can't add Flash CS4 to the dock, it will just appear, then disappear. With the dashboard, I can't add any widgets I've downloaded without the dashboard closing to desktop. I've tried reinstalling the widgets, no luck. Has anyone had this problem before, or know how to fix it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHas anybody had any experience with Dock items disappearing? I simply drag and drop the desired application I was to remain in the Dock, and within 10 seconds it just disappears from the Dock! I haven't un-installed the application. I did have Dock items selected to Sync in MobileMe, but I disabled that as a test. I've also tried right-clicking the application while it's open, and selecting the 'Keep in Dock' option, but same result. After about 10 seconds of closing the app, it disappears from the Dock. I've run Repair Disk Permissions, no effect. I found a similar thread on this forum, but it suggested basically wiping the Mac and starting again, which I don't really find as a solution!

I attempt to drag a dock icon to a new location on the dock, but it won't let me. The other icons don't separate so the icon will drop to the location I want. Randomly, items will separate when I hover over so I could drop the item between them, but only in that spot and no other locations. What am I missing here?
So, I'm unable to put the dock icons exactly where I want them. I've installed all updates.
I was wondering does anyone know how I can use my right hand cmd button as a shortcut key for move focus to the dock. Someone did it for me, but I cannot seem to do it by going through system preferences and to keyboard shortcuts.
For some reason I can't figure out how to make Safari take up the whole screen and be behind the dock. iTunes will do this but safari will not. I've looked through all the settings and can't find anything... Just wondering if maybe there is a mod or something I can download to fix this.

Do you know if there is any way to have all my open windows available in the dock to move from one to other one with a single click? Though I liked the Expos per application feature, I would prefer having all my opened windows available in the same region they are minimized. On similar way, do you know if there is a way of having all the opened windows [instead of all the opened applications] available when doing COMMAND-TAB?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.

View 7 Replies View RelatedToday the OS X dock on my late '08 MacBook Pro 15" stop working like normal. It used to be, when an App was open, the icon would appear in the dock with a sort of highlight.
Now, the apps run fine but no longer appear in the dock. If I minimize it, it does show as a running app in the left hand side, but that isn't what I want it to do. Is there a quick way to get it to work again?
Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..? I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there.I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
So i changed the color of my dock with dock doctor and i tried to change it back to default but it wont do it. Any ideas?
