Sep 23, 2010I have late 2008 MBP that run on leopard and I was using fan control (I forget the name) but now I cleaned install SL and I don't have that app. If I keep my MBP on for hours it become hot (around 60-73 c) and before it was cooler (around 40-55 c). Is there other app better then that?

Oct 30, 2010I've just received new entry level Mac Pro. I used an iMac 27 up to now and, and probably for this reason, My Mac Pro seems noisy. A part of the HDD noise, the main noise source seems to be the fans. What I wan' t to ask you is: If I replace the GPU with a passively cooled card I can reduce the noise substantially? or noise is caused by the system fans and not from the GPU fans?

Aug 17, 2009I got a new macbook black that is not covered under warranty, the magsafe fried on it and it used to boot up but not charge the battery or show any signs of power from the magsafe so then I bought a new magsafe that connects to the logic board and replaced it and when I plugged the power adapter in it tried to turn on right away and then the fan spinned and the sleep light light up then it shut off right away and I didn't smell nothing from the macbook or logic board. The battery now charges and the light on the magsafe adapter lights up so I tried to turn it back on and it doesn't the same thing turns on and then right off just the fan spins and then the hdds spin lasts for like a sec or two. I tried to turn it on with the battery out and with just the battery in nothing swapped the RAM same thing went from two 1 gig sticks to 2 256mb sticks and then tried another two 2gig sticks same thing then I tried a different hdd and have the same thing happen? What I need to do to get this working and yes I tried a google search and every1 ended up taking it to apple and I cannot do that.

Anyway, when I plugged my external speakers into the headphone jack of the MBP, the volume control (both in the Apple bar thing on the top of the screen and the F10/F11 buttons) switched so it would control the external speakers, as it should. The problem started when I unplugged the speakers and went to use the internal speakers again.
And the volume control doesn't work. If I push F11 for volume up, the little screen appears and it looks like the volume is going up, complete with the little water drop sounds, but it doesn't actually adjust the volume. If I plug the speakers back in, it will control the speakers properly, but I can't figure out how to make it control the internal speakers again
I'm sure that if I restarted it would fix itself (probably), but that's a real pain as I am frequently plugging in and unplugging speakers to my laptop.
Mac Pro :: System Fans Running At High Speed / When Wake From Sleep
Feb 8, 2007I have a MacPro 2.66 quad-core intel. 4gb ram. I have a hard-drive from my old Powermac that i upgraded to 10.5.5 for this computer. Everytime I put my computer to sleep, and then wake it back up. The fans spin up to maximum speed and all the fans are running really loud and then after about a minute all spin to normal speed.
I don't have any other flaws except for this. Why could this be?

Jan 25, 2007My parents recently bought an iMac. Yesterday my mom was playing a game when the computer froze. Neither force quit or holding the power button was doing anything so in her frustration she unplugged the system. Today, after plugging in the system again, it won't turn on.
I press the power button on the side of the wireless keyboard and the green light on the keyboard turns on for about 3 sec and then starts flashing. No fans start up and the screen does nothing.

MacBook Pro :: 17" MBP Unibody - Fans Running Constantly And Reboots System
Oct 24, 2009I need the thoughts and advice from your seasoned Mac people - I have 2 MBP's - 1 15" aluminum, one last years model 17" Unibody (with Black around screen). The 15 has run great since day one. The 17" was ok, but now is locking up and causing me to reboot, fans seem to run on high all the time, and it is very slow to react while using the OS, it gets worse until it locks up. I have upgrade to Snow Leopard thinking that that might fix it, but it has not.
When I got it, I restored from the back up of my 15" using carbon copy cloner. I only imported users and data such as pictures and music. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or a or should I back all my stuff up and then blow everything away and reinstall from the ground up with a fresh SL install?
When I called apple they tried to sell me apple care and told me that it was out of the full warranty and if I send it I would to pay for what was not under warranty. SO I am hoping that someone has seen this and has a fix that I can do without having to take it in.
MacBook Pro :: Fans Suddenly Making Wierd Noises / Fans Are Hitting Something?
Jul 27, 2009the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?

Dec 20, 2009what a pain - can't seem to delete anything that comes off my external HD in mac - external has been reformatted because it was hooked up to XP PC and wouldn't accept any thing off the mac - its a TB external with about 5GB of stuff on it that I use daily - I had folders on there that have applications for XP no use to me now but trash won't delete - it just won't do it - they are big files to and I can't take them out of the trash without making another copy so some are now x3 its insane - is this a fault of the maker or the system or the external???

I had a window pop up that read, "Your system has run out of application memory" when I had sever al word documents open and Safari open & Gmail open.
I also do not know what deamons are, nor have I been able to use "time machine" to back up anything on my computer.

Mar 26, 2012Friends were having major problems with Mac OS 10.5.8. I tried to install 10.6 but the installation stalled several times. Through it all, I got OS 10.5.8 running for them again but the sound application is now missing, so I can't get the iMac to play sounds effects nor will it show the Harmann Kardon sound sticks as a sound output. They can't find their original install discs and I do not have that version. Will the sound application for system 10.6 work if I drag that file into their 10.5.8 system?

Dec 3, 2014My MacBook air keeps slowing down and giving me the error message "Your system has run out of application memory". I end up having to force quit all applications and reboot, which fixes the problem for 10 - 15 minutes and then it starts over again.
I am on the road for work and won't be able to get to an Apple store until next week, but this is creating a gigantic headache for me. I found a bunch of threads on this same topic for Snow Leapord, but nothing pertaining to Yosemite.

MacBook Pro :: When Open Network In System Preferences "Network Settings Changed By Another Application"
Apr 4, 2009when I open my Network in System Preferences, "Network settings have been changed by another application" pops up and every time I click Ok, it pops up again, not letting me be able to access any other option in the Network window. The wireless icon has disappeared from my top bar and the only way I have managed to get online is via my ethernet cable. I have had nothing but problems since I started using my O2 Wireless Broadband dongle and I've noticed that behind the "Network settings have been changed by another application" notification, I can seen the Dongle has appeared as a new network connection option... but was never there before today (have been using the dongle for two months now)

Mar 17, 2010So lately I've noticed my Macbook Pro to be quite noisy. According to iStat menus, the fans seems to always be running at 4,000 RPM, even if I am just staring at my desktop, with nothing open.
They speed up normally when the CPU is under load, but they never go lower than 4k.
I tried using SMCFancontrol to restore the default settings, but they still run fast. I even reset the SMC the other day hoping that would fix it, but it didn't.
I've checked activity monitor and used a few terminal commands to check for any processes that are causing high cpu load or anything weird, but I haven't found anything.
