View 7 RepliesIn Mac Mail when I right click an email address and add it to my Address Book it always reverses the first name and last name in the Address Book. What am I doing wrong? I'm sure this is answered elsewhere in the Forum but I can't find it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am am relatively new returnee to Mac--I quit back in the early '90s and am now back. But it is clear that if Mac is to win over corporate users (and that surely is the way to wider use and ultimate victory over the PC) these two basic programs need work.
Some initial thoughts if what I want:
iCal
The display should be able to show part of one month and part of another --i.e. at the moment the last 2 weeks of December and the first 2 of January. Why can't the scroll wheel 'roll' the months up and down?
Address Book
I have something like 900 contacts in my address book, many of them remembered because of where they work, not because of there last name opr specific title or job. Yes, I do know you can check the book to have the company name displayed in the sort list but that's a slow and painful way of doing it--especially if you have 10 or more contacts working for the same firm and you then have to look at each in turn to discov er who you want.
I would like to be alter the display to show 2-lines of choice: say company above and last/first name below or maybe title below. I could then tell who is who without having to search each entry.
Ideally the sort function would be expanded to allow one to sort by, first, company and then, last name.
Unless I am incorrect, the Birthday calendar does not seem to allow for reminders on the Mac. If that is the case, are there other options? If it can do reminders, how do I do them?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo the company I work for gives Verizon cell phones to their employees. This is good because I get free cell service, and bad because the version phones I get are crappy. I just upgraded to an LG enV3 and really want to sync it with iCal and address book on my mac. I wouldn't mind getting some music on there too. I have been searching on the internet for a half hour now and haven't found anything.
I really don't care what I have to do in terms of software hacks, firmware, whatever. Just sick of having Verizon cripple the technology on their phones so I have to pay for their crappy data transfer service to put things on there. The obvious solution of "go buy an iphone" is unfortunately out of the question right now.
I purchased a Mac computer with Snow Leopard already installed on the computer, and somewhere along the way I deleted iCal. As I understand it from the Apple link below, iCal is "bundled" with Mac Mail and Address Book [URL]. And that Mac Mail can be configured to include online email accounts like gmail. I'm currently using Mac Mail 4.3 (1081), and as far as I know, I cannot use this version of Mac Mail to include online email like gmail. This particular version of Mac Mail is corrupted on my computer as the plus sign and edit buttons on the bottom of the Address Book are not visible. I am interested in re-gaining the use of the plus sign and edit button within the Mac Mail Address Book, and also in accessing online email accounts within Mac Mail.
Since Snow Leopard was already installed on my computer when I purchased it, I don't currently have a Snow Leopard installation disk. As such, what is the best way for me to update my Mac Mail application in order to use the Address Book and online email account applications mentioned above within Mac Mail. My best guess is to purchase the Snow Leopard installation disk independently, and use Pacifist software to extract iCal from this disk, and through iCal, use Mac Mail for my two applications of interest.
I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard, but the computer has some hardware problems and I need to send it in for repair (it won't wake up or boot). It is entirely backed up with Time Machine, and I would like to transfer the calendar and contact data from it to my PowerBook that is running OS X 10.4.
I managed to export an icbu file (iCal) and abbu (Address Book) file from the MBP, but when I try to add them to the PB's iCal and Address Book, I get an error message. The raw data in the Library folder seem to be in a different format as well. Is there any other way to transfer the data?
I just converted to imac but have a little problem with Entourage.
Basically I want to automatically add all SENT addresses to my address book, but Entourage does not do this. I looked up the web and there is a software patch but this captures ALL addresses which will result in an address book full of garbage.
I set a date in my iphone and it goes off correctly. however when i sync my iphone to my macbook all of the times are set two hours late in Ical.
I USED to live in las vegas which is two hours earlier than houston where i currently live however my macbook is currently set for central time so i have no clue how to trouble shoot this.
just for example, if i set a reminder at 1pm to wash clothes, it goes off correctly on my iphone, but it will set and go off in Ical at 3pm.
I'm trying to order a calendar in iPhoto '11 for my grandmother. I've did this as part of her Christmas gift the last three years. I added everyone in my family's birthday into an iCal calendar years ago.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was in the middle of adding new contacts and two very strange things happened.
1) After adding the second to last contact, I clicked on "All" to start dragging contacts into a new group and there were all these blank address cards in amongst my regular addresses - as if I had accidentally held down apple N and created a whole bunch of new cards inadvertently - but I had not done this - I was adding people one by one - all morning and it had been going just fine.
2) I still had a couple contacts to add so I thought, well I'll just fill in one of these blank cards - don't know where they came from, maybe I did something, so I better just use them - BIG MISTAKE - poof! Address Book is now gone - completely empty and in Mail, all my address history is also gone.
I clicked undo till I couldn't und anymore and although it said 'undoing new entry', undoing x, undoing y - nothing was really changing - everything was still gone.
Apple freak BF then fiddled and fiddled and after half and hour found the meta data files with all kinds of gobbledy gook numbers and letters in the prefix but can't get them back into Address Book to open...
Why has this happened - it felt like some sort of viral attack but I though macs don't get those - what other weird stuff is going on in there and can I prevent this weirdness from corrupting other programs - mail? calendar? Is that possible or silly? And of course most importantly can I get my addresses back?
I am new to mac mail so I am slowly adding all of my contacts. However, is there a way to add multiple contacts at once. Say I received an email where 50 others in the To: Can I add all of these people at once, or do I have to right click and add each one individually?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to add the info I keep in these two programs to my daily backup. I use Backup btw. Anyone know where the info is actually kept? I did some searches, and it seems maybe to be in the Apps themselves? Can't be sure.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time my co-worker exports a group vCard for me to import into my address book, a note is added (in the notes field) to each vCard which begins "Categories:..." followed by a list of Address Book Groups which that card belonged to on his Mac. How do we STOP address book from appending this note every time he exports a group vCard - it's hard for me to individually delete this text from every card that I import (I do NOT want or need this "Categories" information in the notes of my address book cards). I wish iCloud was an option for us right now, but since I cannot upgrade my computer right now, it is not.

When adding to or editing Address Book or iCal very useful predictive autofill suggestions relating to each field would be displayed (i.e., if I typed "Au" in the country field for example, Australia would appear as a suggestion). This very time saving function has ceased to work. Any ideas on how to get it back up and running? I'm running OSX.6.4 on an mid 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.8 GHz iMac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell I just purchased a brand new 13" Unibody MacBook Pro and want to transfer iCal, Address Book etc. from my old 15" MacBook Pro to my new 13" Unibody MacBook Pro, how do I do it?. I also have Quicken '07 on my old 15" MacBook Pro and would like to transfer the data so I can continue using it on the new 13" MacBook Pro. There are other things I would like to transfer over to the new 13" MacBook Pro, just certain things that I want, how do I do it? What is the easiest way and fastest way of doing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would actually use these features, but knowing that I would get my MacBook back with a wiped hard drive If I ever have to send it in for repairs, makes me think it would just be a big hassle. Unless there was a way to back up all the info to a thumb drive or CD for later reinstall.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new MacBook Pro. I set up my old Mac as a drive, hooked it to the new laptop and dragged most stuff over. However, it claims my old version of Address Book (4.1.2) isn't compatible. How can I transfer my contacts over? I tried syncing my iPhone and the contacts didn't migrate. I tried the same thing unsuccessfully with my iCal (3.0.8).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally updated my Mac from Leopard 10.5.8 to 10.6. I got all the latest updates (10.6.8) and am still transferring my apps but having trouble with Apple's Address Book and iCal. I did an export from both on my 10.5 OS then tried importing them into the respective apps under 10.6 When I try that iCal it says "nothing changed". Address Book just hangs. I still have my old 10.5 OS installation on another drive in my Mac Pro and can boot into it if necessary.

I just upgraded my macbook pro 17 inch to snow leopard 10.6.2 from tiger and all seems fine except that it has dropped some of the calendars from iCal (e.g. Personal, and Free), and also my address book is short 2000 addresses! Most annoying and rather odd. Anyone seen this, and have a solution? I went to the backup and tried to double click iCal events documents that are in the missing calendars but they still do not appear in iCal 10.6.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to get a new verizon phone, but I do not want to have any data package (so all smartphones including iPhone, blackberry, droid, etc., will not work). I do want to be able to sync my phone with my iCal and contact book on my mac. I can do the sync manually (usb) or bluetooth. I do need the phone to have a keyboard, so I can edit/add contacts and appointments on the phone itself. If I need to purchase third-party software to make the sync possible, which software? Are there particular non-smartphone phone models that do/ do not have this capability?

At this moments a couple of time a day it complain that their is now connection for this Calender. Also the Adressbook refuse to save new entries. I both want to reset this ical & adressbook server part, but i can't find how to do it?
Is there a way to out-right remove the 'Leather' skins that Apple has used with iCal and Address book. We had a client jokingly ask us if we were working on kids computers the other day. Not impressed to say the least. We've read about the hacks floating around in the internet wilds but would prefer a Mac-enabled way of changing this. Why isn't this an option in the app preferences?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have leopard on my macbook pro and restarted the whole operating system from scratch. Before doing this I copied all my data onto an external. Although my time machine has a lot of information on it, the last time I backed up my computer was a good 20 days ago so I think that is useless. Anyways, I was wondering if there was any way to recover my ical calendars, address book contacts and mail inbox history from my library folder?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving installed Snow Leopard today on my macbook, I was keen to set up Mail, iCal and address book with my exchange account. However, when I use any of these apps to detect my account settings, it crashes the respective programs. Entourage web services manages to connect my accounts but I don't find it particularly user friendly. Has anyone had a similar experience? If I can't resolve this, is there a way to manually configure accounts in the new apps?
