Applications :: 10.6.3 Missing / Losing Mouse Click - USB Overdrive?

Jun 17, 2010

I have recently been having problems with left and middle clicks not being picked up by OS X. For example, I click a link, but its not selected at all. Another is I middle-click a tab in FF to close it, and nothing happens. I usually have to click twice in succession or hold the button down for a second or teo for the click to register. The weirder part is that it doesn't always happen. The right button and back/forward buttons on my mouse don't seem to be affected. I've tried to clean my mouse (Logitech MX518) but that doesn't fix the problem. The only thing I can think that is causing the problem is mouse drive I am using (USB Overdrive). I have to use it as Logitech hasn't and won't release drivers for the MX518 for the Mac. A bit of research shows that a few people have had similar issues. Has anyone here run into this problem before? Know of a solution? If not, do you guys know of any alternatives to USB Overdrive that I can use that works with 10.6.x?

OS X :: Logitech G7 Mouse W/ USB Overdrive?

Jul 27, 2008

I've been using a Logitech G7 mouse w/ USB Overdrive (and now Steermouse). I have an issue with the mouse double-clicking when it's supposed to single-click. It does it randomly throughout the day.

I tried testing my original Apple Bluetooth Cordless Mouse (not the MM), it works fine. No accidental double clicking. The G7, in Windows, does not suffer from this problem. I know the G7 isn't "supposed" to work with OSX, which is probably the reason why it's doing this in the first place, but I have seen other readers install USB Overdrive and Steermouse without issues.

Is there a way to go to default OSX Mouse drivers? Maybe all these installs of 3rd party apps screwed something up. I don't know, just a guess. If anyone has any info on how I could go about fixing this issue, let me know.

OS X :: Using A Logitech Mouse With USB Overdrive Software?

Jun 4, 2009

So here's what happened: I had a MX518 that I got for my iMac, and then I found out that it had no drivers for OSX, so I ended up taking it back, and exchanging it for MX400. MX4000 has OSX drivers, but the wheel is awful. Each time I press the scroll wheel (which feels like it needs a bodybuilder to be able to press it), the thing tilts either left or right, causing it to not only activate the middle button, but also a left/right wheel button. This is very annoying.

I'm wondering if anyone here is using software such as USB Overdrive like the one found here (URL) I mainly want to run it on MX518, and was wondering if the dpi switch buttons still work with it after it's installed on the system.

OS X :: USB Overdrive Settings Do You Use To Match A PC Mouse?

Oct 16, 2009

I'm a lifelong Mac user, but I use a PC at work and that means using Excel and Word a lot. Whenever I work from home on my Mac I always have a slight bit more difficulty in selecting the cells I want in Excel and I do attribute this in the slight differences between how the Mac mouse and PC mouse work.

I've used USB Overdrive for as long as I can remember but I only started thinking about what settings would give me the same mouse movement as a PC on my Mac. I am mainly interested in what Speed and Acceleration setting you have to best mimic a PC. I currently am using 400 dpi and 150% accel.

Hardware :: Unable Right Click/Left Click On Wireless Mighty Mouse After Disassembling

Aug 9, 2010

I had to dissassemble my wireless Mighty Mouse to clean it properly, as the trackball was unable to scroll up and down. As I had cleaned the trackball, I attached the two internal cables to their respective "slots" again and assembled the mouse.

Now my right button does the same as the left button (right click = left click). I tried dissassembling the mouse again, but I cannot see what I could have done wrong. After all, there are only two cables to attach and de-attach inside it.

Hardware :: Mighty Mouse Not Working Fine / Right Click Acts As Left Click

Feb 12, 2007

I just bought a mighty mouse, happy as I was, plugged it in and started my ibook running OS X 10.3.9.I know the mighty mouse shouldn't have full functionality (as the software delivered with it is >10.4.2).The problem is that the right click doesn't work right. When I try to right click it sometimes takes the right click, sometimes takes it as a left click (which is extremely annoying in firefox or finder).

I have SteerMouse (I'm a windows/linux user too) installed but when I denstalled it the problem remained.
When I plugged the mighty mouse in my pc (at that time running windows) right click just worked. When using a cheap mouse (from pleomax) the right click on the ibook (with Steermouse installed) works all the time.

I find this al really confusing. Seems like it can't be the hardware because it works on windows, but it can't be the software because another mouse does work.

I noticed that when right clicking at the total right side near the "expose-button" (not a position my fingers lay naturally) right click works all the time. I don't hope this is normal?

Applications :: Won't Work With USB Overdrive / Alternatives?

Jun 20, 2010

I've recently been running into problems with mouse clicks not being picked up by OS X. At first I thought it was my mouse, but it seems to happen with other USB mice as well. Turns out the problem is being caused by USB Overdrive. Seems there is a problem with it and 10.6.x. Turns out that I am not the only one with the problem and no one has heard from the developer of a workaround or patch to fix the problem.

I use a Logitech MX518 and Logitech won't release Mac drivers for it, so I need something like USB Overdrive to get full functionality. Does anyone here know of any alternatives to USB Overdrive that work with Snow Leapord?

OS X Yosemite :: Losing Mouse Settings In New Account

Dec 8, 2014

Stayed with 10.6.8 for years and had no issues, then started to see problems with Safari, websites not loading, email problems, updates no longer available etc etc.

So I used Carbon Copy Cloner to make a backup, wiped everything, then a clean install of Yosemite. All went very well indeed!

I have 3 accounts setup on the one iMac (2011 model i7 Quad core). 2 of these accounts work perfectly, but the thing which is driving me nuts is on the 3rd account. I set the mouse tracking speed and remove the scroll direction tick, but whenever I log out, it resets itself! Every time I log in, I have to go to System Prefs and reset it all over again!

The solution is to setup another account of course, and copy all files over, but I'd prefer to work through this issue to find out whats causing it if I can.

Hardware :: Mighty Mouse (wireless) Losing Connection

Aug 25, 2007

Well it will connect then when I move it around and pick it up off the table it loses connection. It just started doing this a few days ago and continues doing it. It does this in windows as well. If I keep it on the table it will be fine, but as soon as I move around and pick it up on accident barely off of the table it's connection is lost.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Services Missing From Right Click Menu?

May 24, 2012

I was trying to install some services that I created using applescripts and ThisService. The problem I'm having is that Services is not available in the menu when I right click on a folder or file. Looking under Keyboard in the system preferences, I can see all of the different services that are availible. I have the ones I'd like to use checked but no services appear in the menu when I right click. I've tried resetting defaults in the preferences, logging in and out, restarting and nothing helps. I found another post that said open terminal and run this /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs. When I enter that in the terminal, I get this message "No languages specified - assuming English" and nothing changes. I'm running 10.6.8 and I know that Services used to be avalible in the menu.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Missing Slideshow Right Click Option On IMac

Jun 14, 2012

I just got a new Mac, with Lion, but even though I keep reading about this awesome right click option for "slideshow" it does not appear on my right click context menu, I can do one via preview though. Any reason why its missing.

Also, when browsing folders with thousands of images (baby photo mania), what is
- the best program / app to quickly create slideshows, and contact sheets.
- the best program to be able to preview through them and have a single click option to move / copy / delete, I think an old PC app "ACDSee" used to have this, but I am new to the mac.

IMac :: Taskbar Missing Across The Top / Unable To Click Icons In Dock

May 19, 2009

I booted my new 2009 iMac this afternoon and when it came up there was no taskbar across the top. I could not click on the icons on the dock either. the mouse worked and the desktop was there. I have a mouse on my Logitech keyboard and it worked so I know the keyboard did. I had no way to shut down so I held the button down till the machine powered down and it did in a second or so.

I waited about a minute and booted back up again and all came up like normal except the hard drive was running like crazy and the machine was super sluggish. After about a minute the hard drive quit running and all seemed normal.

I shut down like normal and then shut off the surge strip machine is plugged into to have a total power cut. Let sit about 2 minutes powered back on and booted machine and it booted like normal and acts perfectly normal. What caused the anomaly???

Never done it before and machine is about 2 months or old or so. Bought it as soon as new iMac's were released this year. It is the flagship 3.06 iMac. Bone stock. It has all the latest updates. Running 10.5.7

OS X :: Mouse Won't Click - Can't Respond

Oct 30, 2007

Yesterday I restarted my PowerMac G5 (dual 2.7Ghz) as normal. When it rebooted my system wouldn't respond to mouse clicks. I can move the pointer around the screen and the system even responds to mouseover events (e.g. the text when you move over an application in the Dock) but it won't respond to clicks. Funny thing is, I tried VNCing in from another computer on my LAN and clicking DOES work from there. I've taken the obvious step of repairing permissions, to no avail. I'm using 10.4.10 and wasn't doing aything unusual or stupid beforehand as far as I know.

OS X :: Both Mouse Buttons Are Right-click?

Nov 4, 2009

So I just installed USB Overdrive on my 10.6.1 iMac 2.66, and one of the buttons was conflicting; I thought it might be an issue with Apple's official mouse & keyboard prefs. So I went in, and I accidentally switched the right click/left click, and now I cannot click on ANYTHING because both buttons are right-click. I tried restarting in the hopes that USB Overdrive would override the system prefs, but no dice. Is there any way I can manipulate system prefs without the use of clicking?

I also tried hooking up another mouse to no avail, and sticky keys are off.

Software :: MBP Mouse Won't Click

Aug 21, 2010

(Was) running: 15" Macbook Pro, 3GB RAM, Original Leopard (Computer is about 4-4.5 years old, so it's not a new one. 2nd gen?) Last night I was using Firefox as I always do when my cursor decided not to let me move a file I was trying to move. The file sort of stuck to the cursor and I had to hard boot my computer back up. When I got to the login screen, I couldn't click my account with the trackpad mouse. I was however able to select my account with tab and enter (I think it was), which let me login. I was able to get to system preferences but there was nothing unchecked with trackpad that shouldn't have been. (Trackpad = mouse? I think?) Logged in, I was still unable to click anything, which makes it pretty hard to use the computer! I've tried various things to fix it, to no avail:

1. Hardbooting
2. Waiting all night, letting it sit off, hardbooting
3. Resetting PRAM

I also tried using my original gray installation disc for disk utility. I pressed "c" on startup, but once it started up, it ejected my disc. (Also tried the 2nd gray disc and the original Leopard disc.) I was able to reboot into Safe Mode pressing SHIFT on startup and then hard rebooting. Just read about single user mode fsck -y and will try that shortly. I'll also see if "D" on startup keeps the install disk in to run AHT. From what I've read, sounds like it might be the logic board. Can't afford that nor a new Mac. Looks like I'm back to a PC if that's what it is. *mourns* Wow, I plugged in an old Mac USB mouse we had lying around and that works! Yay! But should I still be concerned about the logic board or some other major issue?

When i done this today it won't right or left click. All it does is open the dashboard which this is the middle button. When i set off the middle button it can left click but not right. What the heck is going on? What should i do? Can it be fixed or do i need to go on an Apple Store and get a new one? God i hate this mouse. By rubbing it on a paper, the trackball is now scratched. Will this affect my warranty?

Hardware :: Mighty Mouse Won't Click

Aug 22, 2009

Someone dropped our Mighty Mouse, and now it won't register clicks. When it hit the floor, it kinda fell apart. We put it back together, but now it won't click. We've tinkered around with it a little bit, and opened it up to see if there was something obviously broken... And everything looks like it should be working fine. At this point, it looks like we need a new Mighty Mouse, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on how we might be able to fix it. There were some other forum posts about the mouse not clicking right clicking, or scrolling, but I get the idea that it was just a hardware problem, where it just stops responding. Au contraire, it isn't working because it suffered blunt trauma.

*also, for other users whose mouse isn't working who are looking for answers, if your track ball isn't working very well, it might just need cleaning. Try turning it upside down and rubbing the mouse on your pant leg or a piece of paper, with moderate force. This will help dislodge debris inside, and help it scroll more easily, and doesn't harm your mouse. If you're having trouble right clicking, try lifting your index finger off the left side of the mouse. The mouse has a sensitive electrical wiring circuit under the area of where your fingers touch, and your mouse may be confused by fingers on both sides of the mouse. The primary click is the left click, so it'll take priority over the right side. Ah, Apple technology is beautiful.
