MacBook Pro :: Keyboard And Monitor Makes It Slow?

Mar 27, 2012

I have a keyboard and external monitor attached to my MacBook Pro. However, it seems really slow - or the keyboard isn't responsive.  Will purchasing an Apple specific keyboard help this issue?

First of all, Noob imac owner here. I was just handed down an old imac g3 400mhz desktop that doesn't power at all. When hitting the power button on the unit or keyboard, the units screen makes a noise. No hard drive or green light comes on at all. At dead silence in the room, i can hear the screen flicker, like a tv would come on. I went to go about and read a few problems before, replaced the battery and even tried a new power cord. Any Ideas?

MacBook Air :: Running An External Monitor, It Slow Down The Speed Of MBA?

Since it has built in graphics, will running a 23" ACD slow the rest of the computer? I'm thinking about Photoshop and Flash here. My work computer is a 15" MBP at 2.0 Ghz and I think a drop to 1.6 Ghz wouldn't be so bad if I could use a separate monitor and not see anymore of a performance drop.

MacBook Pro :: Why Won't It Startup Properly Without External Monitor And Keyboard

Mar 14, 2012

If I connect a external monitor and keyboard to my late 2011 Macbook Pro (running Lion) it starts up just fine. But if I try to start it up without these (or any other devices) attached, I get no display on the internal screen and the internal keyboard is ignored (the caps lock light doesn't light up when the key is pressed). However, I don't think it's a hardware issue, as a PRAM reset seems to work (I get the second chime) indicating that the keyboard is OK. And I get a second or so of grey screen before the screen goes black. I've tried resetting my SMC and my PRAM. The latter seemed to fix the problem once - but then it came back, and won't go away again this time. I've also tried starting in safe, single user, and verbose mode, but none of these seem to make any difference. I've been having some issues installing Windows (under both BootCamp and Parallels) but wouldn't have thought that these were related.

MacBook :: Wireless Keyboard Slow / Disconnects When CPU High?

Jan 19, 2010

1x Macbook 2.4Ghz, 4Gig RAM. December 08 model.

1x 24" monitor connected via DVI connector

1x USB mouse

1x mac wireless keyboard (was used on iMac 21.5" new 2010 model)

Latest version of Snow Leopard, patched to the latest on everything. Software update says that everything is up to date.

I've unregistered the keyboard with the iMac and associated it with the Macbook. I'm typing this message with the wireless keyboard no problems.

This is where the problem comes in, when I start up for example MacTheRipper, or Handbrake. Essentially any tool that kicks the CPU into overdrive the keyboard starts acting strangely.

Typing will go to a crawl, it takes longer for the letters to appear, as if in slow motion. It will popup the keyboard disconnect and reconnect image every once in a while and if I leave the keyboard for a while it will disconnect from bluetooth completely, when I then try to reconnect by tapping a key it doesn't connect for sometime. Even if I hold the key down for several seconds.

Once the program has completed processing and the CPU drops back down to nothing, the keyboard works just fine again.

MacBook Pro :: Bluetooth Keyboard And Mouse Respond Slow After 30 Minutes

Apr 20, 2010

I managed to get my hands on my new baby last Friday, new MBP 17" i7 with anti-glare! My wife also has a 2009 uMBP 13", which I have been using since Xmas while waiting for Arrandale! I use a stand with a apple wireless keyboard and wireless magic mouse. I have been having problems with the new 17" machine - the mouse and kb work fine for about 30 mins then the mouse gets really slow and jerky and the keyboard gets slow as well and starts displaying double / triple keys when typing etc. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot. If I unpair the mouse and keyboard and repair this doesnt fix it - only a reboot works. I phoned apple care and they instructed to create a new test user, which I did - same problems.

Reinstalled OSX (machine was only 2 days old though!), and this didnt fix it. So, I took the machine back to my Apple Retail store and swapped it for a new machine. Finally finished setting it up again yesterday, and the problem started AGAIN - So it would seem that unless I have had two faulty machines (highly unlikely) it must be software related? I have been trying to work out what might be causing it - but running the machine without Parallels, Little Snitch, 1 Password, things which I thought could have been related to the problem. I basically ran the same system on my wifes 13" before I got the new machine and I had no problems with the mouse and keyboard. I have also changed the batteries on both the mouse and keyboard.

PowerPC :: Ibook & Xtra Monitor Are Running Slow

Sep 27, 2009

I recently bought myself an Xtra monitor to hook up to my Ibook. I also used the hack to be able to split up the monitors to have full resolution of my new monitor.

but now my computer is running slower. somewhere in this forum I have found out that because of the hack my Ibook now has to work extra hard to be able to run on 2 monitors.

my question is, isn't there a way to be able to use my new monitor at full resolution and just shut of the original Ibook monitor? so my Ibook does not have to split up his memory? If I mirror them I Can't work on full resolution ...

somebody doing this?

Or... What do I do/buy/download that my Ibook can work on 2 monitors, but doesn't run slower.

Windows On Mac :: Monitor / Keyboard Deactivated While Gaming

Jun 15, 2009

I'm running a Mac Pro with 4GB RAM, 512MB of Video RAM, 2 dual core 2.66GHz processors (or more, not completely sure but I know it's at least 2.66GHz). I recently installed Windows 7 using bootcamp, and so far it has disappointed me by actually being good.... something I'm not used to when dealing with windows. Anyway, the OS runs fine for almost everything with the exception of video games. I've only installed one game on it (Oblivion) but for whatever reason at seemingly random time intervals (only when playing the game) the monitor turns off and can't be turned on without a restart, and the keyboard and mouse can no longer input. I can hear the sound playing fine (in fact on multiple occasions I heard myself being killed), but no video and no input.

I have to restart the computer by forcing a shutdown (holding the power button) in order to get input back. I'm not sure if this issue is strictly windows, as it sometimes happens whenever I play EVE when booted into Mac. I'm fairly confident that it's not my graphics card, because if it were, why would mouse and keyboard functions be disabled? I've tried playing around with the games settings (highest possible settings, disabling HDR/Bloom, low settings, ini tweaks, etc) but it makes no difference on the result. Every time, without fail, the monitor turns off, keyboard and mouse stop working, and I am forced to restart. Again, I'm not sure this is strictly a Windows 7 issue as it has happened before when gaming on my Mac. But on the Mac it's a very rare occurrence, it's happening consistently on the Windows partition.

System Specs:
Mac OS X 10.5.7
Windows 7 Build 7100
2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
ATI Radeon X1900 XT

All drivers up to date on both operating systems.

I don't want to run Windows on the Mac. I prefer to have separate computers. I have considered maybe using Remote Desktop from Windows to the Mac or the other way around. And can you even use a Windows Keyboard and Mouse with a Mac. I assume the Monitor (with DVI) is not a problem.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Keyboard Key Repeat Very Slow After Immigration

Apr 20, 2012

when I got my macbook with Lion, I changed the keyrepeat to a bit higher speed, because I think the default is a bit to slow.

Then I changed my Harddrive and immigrated my user profile, except the User Data folders...

Then, I changed had to change my UID to make my old Userdata available again, and I guess, something may be went wrong here...

Wenn I change the keyrepeat speed in the keyboard preferences, there is no effect at all. It stays at the same speed, even if I turn of the keyrepeat.

MacBook :: Can't Make Monitor On Mini Display Port Primary Monitor?

Aug 18, 2010

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.

I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.

Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?

MacBook :: Using External Monitor With New MB (2.4GHz)/monitor Sleep?

Oct 16, 2008

I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.

When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.

My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?
