ITunes For Mac :: How To Get Music Playlists Back After New Update

Sep 12, 2014

After the new iTunes Update this week, the update deleted my personalized music playlists, went back to the default playlists, and all the albums I deleted doubles of songs are all back since the new update!  Is there a way to fix this or am I going to have to go back through and reorganize my entire library by hand again?  It still shows up on correct on my iPhone, it's just on my mac that I'm having the issue.

P.s. iTunes comment:  I don't like how if an album has multiple artists on different songs, iTunes separates the album's songs and shows them separated in the Albums list.  I have an album to listen to the ALBUM, not separated by artists.  Is there a setting or something to change that?

ITunes For Mac :: How To Get Music And Playlists Back After Reinstalling Mavericks

Sep 6, 2014

Whenever starting up, a grey screen would appear and after the screen would shut off immediately. I decided to reinstall Mavericks (which worked). However, my iTunes is completely wiped clean. I have all my music files still on my computer but not in the iTunes. Is there a way to get them all back without having to drag and drop each file one by one? And is it possible to get all my old playlists back with the dates added/play counts etc.?

ITunes :: Using Itunes To Play Music From External Drive / Playlists Show No Music File

Aug 6, 2010 I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.

I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.

ITunes :: Update Smart Playlists With Live Update Turned Off?

May 7, 2012

If I create a smart playlist in itunes and deselect live updating then how exactly does the smart playlist load up?

The reason I ask is that started setting up Smart Playlists for all of the artists on my computer and they're all set to live update which is consequently slowing down my itunes. I realize that I may not necessarily need that. My question is exactly would I go about manually updating a smart playlist that has live updating turned off?

ITunes :: Music In My Playlists Won't Shuffle

Feb 13, 2012

So I updated my MacBook Pro last night and now my playlists wont shuffle correctly. When I turn on the shuffle feature and I have a column selected (number, rating, etc), all it does is rearrange the songs. it's not a real shuffle because I can still see which song is coming next (ie, songs 1, 2, and 3 might become 3, 1, and 2, but they'll still play in that order). When I turn on the shuffle feature without any column being selected, nothing happens. even though the shuffle button is blue, the songs in the playlists play in their exact order. the shuffle only seems to work properly when im playing music out of the entire music library, not one playlist.

ITunes :: Make Videos Work Like Music Playlists?

May 7, 2012

I have a series of short (5 minute) videos that I want to be able to add to a playlist and have them automatically play, one following the other, the same way that a song does. If I have a song playlist, and I tell it to play the first song, it then goes on immediately to play the second song. But with videos, they don't immediately play. I have a playlist full of short videos. Shuffle is on, as well as Repeat All. I'm not sure what button I need to press to make this playlist actually work. How do I do it?

ITunes For Mac :: How To Transfer Music Ratings And Playlists From IPhone 5c

Aug 29, 2014

My iPhone 5c used to sync with my old Windows laptop via iTunes and both devices held all music information on them such as iTunes rating, playlist information and the selected songs to be synced (there are more songs on my iTunes on my laptop than my iPhone).   All of these songs are also saved on an external hard drive.  None were purchased through iTunes.

When my old Windows laptop died, it died abruptly so I did not have chance to consolidate the iTunes media folder.  I have now bought a new MacBook Air to replace my old Windows laptop.

When I plug in my iPhone 5c to my new MacBook Air, when iTunes offers to sync it advises all information on my iPhone will be lost.

Is it possible to transfer the ratings and playlists from my iPhone to iTunes on my MacBook Air, at least for the corresponding songs that exist on my iPhone?  Note I have the original songs on an external hard drive so the song files themselves do not have to copy across.  All the files in the iPhone exist in the external hard drive.

Applications :: Unable To Make Playlists In Itunes / Cannot Sort Music By Year Name

Oct 20, 2008

I've only recently added release years to all my albums and now I sort by album by year, which is great. However, I'd like to make some smart playlists based on decades, and this is a problem for anything on some sort of anthology or greatest hits collection. For example, the Barenaked Ladies greatest hits CD was released in 2001.

If I tag the whole album as 2001, it sorts correctly, but the individual tracks from the 90's won't show up in the 90's smart playlist. The other option I can think of is to tag each individual track with the correct year, but then the album stops appearing in the right place chronologically within the BNL albums, since iTunes no longer knows it was released in 2001.

So my question is this: is there some way to do a sort of "Sort Year" or "Album Year" similar to "Sort Artist" or "Album Year"?

And while I'm at it, I'm sure there's no way, but it seems like it'd be cool to somehow tie a track to two different albums. Previously, if I had a greatest hits and some original albums, I would erase any duplicates from the greatest hits and only keep them on the original album. However, since the release of iTunes 8 I use a more album-based approach to my music. I use grid view with shuffle off by default, and often just click "Play Album". But if I do that for a greatest hits comp, it of course won't play the tracks that I've deleted from it. So I have to keep two copies of the same recording for two different albums. It'd be cool if there was some way to tie one track to both albums to avoid dupes. But again, I'm pretty sure this'll never happen.

ITunes For Mac :: Smart Playlists Empty With Live Update

Jun 23, 2014

Have several smart play lists that select songs based on when they were last played, i.e. include songs that have not been played within the last 24 hours. When I sync my iPhone or iPad, all the music and the play lists are copied to the devices. However, the playlists are now empty on the devices (full on my Mac). If Live Updating is unchecked the play lists are full. Playing the a few songs on these lists and then checking Live Updating does not fix the issue. How can I get a smart playlist to use live updating and sync to iPhone or iPad?

ITunes :: Relocating Music Back To Macbook

Apr 10, 2012

I wanted to transfer and copy my music to an Ext Harddrive and did just that. In doing so, I guess I ended up changing the file location of everything on my itunes to my Hard Drive.  Now when I try to listen to music without my ExtHD plugged in, it can't find the file.  I've gone back and tried to re-do everthing and nothing seems to work.  The music seems to definitely still be on my MacBook as I can locate songs one by one manually, but I want to be able to fix this all at once.

MacBook Pro :: Transfer Music - Pictures And Preserve Playlists And Photo Albums

May 11, 2010

I finally bit the bullet on a new i7 15" MBP today to replace my dying 3.5 year old MB. I want to transfer my music and pictures from MB and also preserve my playlists and photo albums. I currently have a TimeCapsule as well. My current MB is "faulty" so I don't really want to copy over the drive per se, just the music / pictures. What's the easiest that I can do this? Sorry, I've never done this before and in the past I've just used an external HD and copied over the music/pic files but I lost the playlist/albums. It's over 3 years of work to redo, so to speak, and I want to see if there was an easier way to do this.
