Has anyone heard of some third party software used to help simplify the process of restoring or retrieving individual files via TIME MACHINE?
I have some trouble sorting out the navigation window, when it offers choices between KEEP BOTH or RESTORE ORIGINAL. I seem to end up not finding the earlier file. Then a friend said he had heard of software that simplifies this process. I've tried Forum search but no luck yet.
I have a Time Capsule at home, and can opt for the automatic backup via Time Machine program. But I have been doing manual backups, transferring files myself to Time Capsule and to an USB drive. It's mostly document, media files. If I backup using Time Machine, can I access those files individually? Or is it just going to be one big chunk of a file? Are there any trustworthy syncing programs between my computer and an external hard drive or in my case Time Capsule?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recent fount necessary to do a complete install and restore. As I was having trouble with system performance, I chose to restore Applications from Time Machine and set the system parameters manually. In the process, I wound up with some very large (50 Gbytes) on my Desktop. I neglected to turn off time Machine backup while doing the restoration and wound up with several big(!) files in the back ups taken during the restoration. There is nothing useful on the backups taken during the restoration and they have really filled up my backup disk. Looking at the structure of the backup disk, it seems you could just delete the backups after I started to restore things. Are there other considerations? Are there hidden tables laying around that might become unsynchronized?

So two months ago my mac's internal hard disk had a problem, it was "ejecting" itself by itself. It was frozen. Problem: I was gonna do a backup the day it happened, so I didn't have a back up. I went to a centre of data recuperation. They managed to get a lot out of the internal hard disk and put it in a new external hard drive. Apple then replaced my SSD, and I restored (from the external hard drive) what had been recuperated back on my computer with a new SSD. Now I realise that a lot of things are missing - especially pictures- which is quite annoying. I do have a very old back up that I did with Time Machine on another external hard drive. My question is: how can I restore only the pictures from that back up? I can't go back on time machine because this is a new SSD, and I don't wanna restore everything from that back up as I have more data on my computer as it is now.

I recently upgraded to OS 10.7 and now can't find my Time Capsule under devices to access individual files stored on it. The system is recognizing it under time machine and is doing full backups to it, but only the backup portion is accessible through Finder. How do I get back to where I can pull up the contents of the Time Capsule on an individual basis?

Is there a way to back up individual movies/tv series in iTunes? I've ripped a lot of my dvds to itunes to watch on my iphone. My macbook HD is really starting to get full. Can I just do a TM backup, and then just delete whole tv series? And then, can I individually restore them from the TM backup? If so, how? Does this make sense?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI keep my iTunes Media folder on my external drive, but I found that recently iTunes has put several of the albums I've ripped on my local drive (/Users/<me>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, I assume that's the default location). Not sure why, though I know there was a time when my drive was inaccessible for some reason, so perhaps I ripped them then. Anyway, point is I want to move them to the external drive where the rest of my music lives. I tried just "moving" them in Finder, and I say "moving" because Finder doesn't really let me move but rather copies to the external drive. Which I think is part of the problem, since I then moved the local versions to the trash bin, from which they still played on iTunes. I guess iTunes (or MacOS in general) tracks where files move. Once I emptied the trash, though, iTunes claims it can't find them. Even though shiny new copies are right there in my iTunes media folder on the external drive.

I just went through the process of buying an app as a gift to be delivered via email. Typed my personal message to the recipient, confirmed the delivery address. Got the review screen. Then when I clocked to purchase the app, I got a security screen asking me to select 3 security questions and an alternate email address. Got immediate emails from Apple noting the changes to my account. But I never got an email confirming the gift purchase. How do I tell if it went through? The item is not listed in my purchases, but maybe that's by design? Did the security question dialog hijack the purchase process?
(Also checked my credit card website, and it doesn't look like there's a pending charge yet. But I'd hate to purchase this app twice.)

So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?
