Upon plugging my iPod Nano into my Macbook Pro, random songs become rated 4/5 stars, messing up my 'Top Rated' playlist. No, I've never rated these songs before or touched their album artwork etc. so I don't understand how these songs can be rated automatically despite playing some of the songs only once.

I've got an iPhone & iPad who's filling up quickly mainly due to my audio tracks. They range from 128kbps all the way to ALAC. Currently the audio is consuming 36.9GB but when I select "Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs" to 256kbps, I'm hoping that anything higher (e.g. my 320kbps and ALAC) get converted down and thereby overall consuming less space.
When I select this option, the Audio jumps up to 45.1GB instead. What's going on? Is it upsampling my other 128/160/192kbps tracks up to 256kbps? This option currently seems counterintuitive to me.

All my music has covers in iTunes Library. But after i updated to iOS 5.1 they are missing on my devices.
It happens every time i check "convert higher bit rate songs to 192/256 kbps" on iTunes 10.6 (40) on my Mac.
On the screenshot (iPad 2010 running iOS 5.1) Bon Iver's album copied by default settings, and Coldplay's album converted to 192 kbps.BTW on my old iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) all covers are OK even when convert feature is ON.

All my playlists are carefully put together, but when I sync the playlist from my computer to my phone or vis versa, random songs are left out of the playlists. I've found no pattern as to which songs remain or are lost, but the songs are still individually on the phone or computer, just not present in the playlists.

I have a number of songs that have gone missing from my music library. It will be one or two songs from a CD, all the songs originally imported a long time ago, or something recently downloaded. Sometimes if I select locate, they can be found, but most the time the songs have vanished and won't turn up in searches, but are still listed in iTunes.

I've just downloaded an album, and it ended up in my Downloads folder, so I moved it to the desktop, then played one of the songs in the album. s soon as I played the song, it opened up in iTunes and then automatically added the song to the music library. I don't want it to do that, I've spent the last couple of hours sorting out my library, adding album artwork, name changes etc and the last thing I need is things getting automatically added to the music library and cluttering and messing things up.

I have it all organized in my music folder, but if I add the whole music folder to my library, it duplicates everything. I will play an album in iTunes. Once the album finishes, instead of stopping playback, iTunes will play an apparently random song from my library (though each album seems to be linked to a different song, which changes every now and then. I've been unable to find any pattern). Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have any ideas? I don't think this is just a problem for me - it happens to some friends who have iTunes as well. I've searched on Google and on this forum and couldn't find any solutions.

Is there an option I can set to where my computer will automatically delete the songs from the hard drive after it copies them to the iTunes folder? There is no sense in wasting space, and it seems trivial to have to delete them manually after they were copied automatically.
Also is there a setting to prevent iTunes from automatically adding and copying a song to it's library when a new song is played from any location on the hard drive?
I have 2500 songs I have accumulated over years. Many have improper names, some are not capitalized and some have no Genre or the wrong Genre. My question is, can I select all songs and have itunes somehow retrieve the proper info from the web? Or do I have to manually edit each song myself. Would the CDDB database come in here somehow?

I started noticing a few months ago that CDs I have been importing no longer display "256 (VBR)" anymore even though I have my import settings set to iTunes Plus. I tried using a custom setting that is exactly the same thing I went through custom->stereo bit rate of 256->and checked the box for VBR. The same thing happens with both. Initially "256 (VBR)" is displayed in the Bit Rate View; however, after I play the track or if I edit any of the tags it immediately switches it to 256 and no more (VBR) listed after it. Is anyone else having this issue? I thought with the last few iTunes updates that maybe this would resolve but it hasn't.

Since I own the CDs, I thought of re-ripping them in 256 AAC, but if I do so, I dont get updates of the "old" rips but new ones. What I would like to do is an automatic exchange of the old and new files w/o having to put all the metadata and cover art again.

I think I found a bug in iTunes, because I can find no other explanation. Every once in a while (like once every three weeks) my iTunes window goes down. By this I mean everytime i click a different playlist, view, category, iTunes store, the window moves down a bit leaving this gap at the top. It randomly comes and goes, and its not really a big deal, but it does get really annoying. Is anyone else getting this? and no, im not just moving the window down

So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?

My iTunes library resides on an external hard drive, and I wanted to reformat it from FAT32 to Mac OS Extended. I moved the entire contents to another HD, reformatted, then moved everything back. I started iTunes and all items had an exclamation point next to them (original file could not be found). I checked iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and was surprised to see that iTunes Media Folder Location was still set to the original location on the MacBook's HD, since I've been using the external for a few months now. In any case, I changed the folder location to the iTunes folder on the external and that mostly fixed the problem with the exclamation points. There were still certain songs that couldn't be found. I chose one, clicked Locate and found it on the external. iTunes then very helpfully found 127 other items based on that location. However, there are still 149 items that can't be found, and they don't seem to be on any of my HDs. Some of them were purchased from iTunes, some were ripped from CD and some were free tracks found on various artist/label sites. Where could they have disappeared to?

I transferred all my itunes library to an external hard drive.I had all my songs in itunes and then went to "preferences" and set itunes to look on my external hard drive for my itunes. Then I went to "library" and then "consolidate", and it moved all my library over to my external. I can verify that my songs are all there on my externalHowever, now, itunes won't play any songs of mine. I double click on the song in itunes and it just wont play. I fired up iTunes tonight with Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden. I almost always play my library with 'Random' so I thought it was cool when the second song was Audioslave's What You Are. Imagine my surprise when the third song of the evening was Take The Power Back by Rage Against The Machine. My library is not loaded with any of those bands. I have 2 macs with two completely independent iTunes databases. They are used for differnt purposes and contain different music. I really do not want to merge these two databases.
From time to time I need to selectively transfer some few songs from the one computer to the other one. Is there a clever way I can achieve this? I would like to transfer the files including the metadata.
