I keep reading about this new ability to do "Genius Mixes".
On my iPhone I click the Genius icon (which is too large IMHO) and it makes a playlist. Are Genius Mixes any different?
I have Genius playlists on my ipad2 that I do not want. I would like to get rid of all Genius suggestions and have viewed many suggestions; one being to go to the store tab and click turn off genius. This option is not available it only gives the option 'Update Genius'. I recently joined itunes Match and this seems to automatically think that you want to have Genius

I am trying to send my Genius info but it get stuck on step 2. "Sending Genius information to Apple." It has been going for 2 hours. I tried a couple times earlier for about 15-20 minutes each time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got iTunes match just before Christmas 2011 and also for Christmas I got a few CDs, these were all added to iTunes and everything seemed to be fine. I would try an use genius to get a random playlist but most of the time it would just say: "You can update your Genius results, which may find new information. If iTunes is still unable to create a Genius playlist from this song or artist, please choose another one."
So I'd pick another song and forget about it. I've been adding music to my iTunes for the last few months and today I went through every new song since adding iTunes Match and not one will work with Genius.
I know there have been issues with iTunes Match and Genius on iOS devices but I can't find anything on problms with the Mac.
Any thoughts on what is going on and how to fix it?

This started to happen a few days ago after installed a SSD drive in my Mac Mini and putting the iTunes library on my external HD.

I have 2 new Apple TVs, I have 1 Second Gen Apple TV, I also have a new 3rd gen iPad, and a new iMac. Since I got the new iPad and new Apple TVs, iTunes Home Sharing stopped working reliably. I say this because this is when I noticed it. I had not really used home sharing much in the 2 months prior because I sold my old ipad in anticipation of the new one. When trying to access my video collection on iTunes, the iPad and AppleTVs will see my iMac's Video collection, but when selected, it thinks awhile and then the % indicator goes to 50% and stops waits awhile and then indicates that there are no videos.
The only way to get it to work again is to Stop Home Sharing on my iMac and then start it again. Then it works instantly. Less than a day goes by and bang, the problem comes again. Because I can get it to work via iTunes, I have to assume that it is a software issue and not a wireless router issue (im using an airport by the way). I don't know if iTunes is having a hard time keeping up with that many clients (the ipad and 3 apple TVs), or what, but the issue is very annoying and really ruins the Apple experience.

I've never even turned on the genius feature in iTunes, because I was put off by the link to the store. I have no intention whatsoever of buying anything from the iTunes store, though I do have an account cause I had to buy something else online. Here's my strong suspicion about Genius - that it's really there just to sell you crappy tracks from iTunes. And I have no use for that noise.
But, I like to keep an open mind. What if I'm wrong, and what if it's actually a cool feature? I remember not being sure about the shuffle function, since I like to listen to albums, so for the longest time I didn't use it. But one day I gave it a go, and what do you know. I liked it, for the most part! Here's one additional complication - I got like 50,000 songs in my library and I listen to all kinds of genres. Tell me about Genius - how do you use it?
I accidentally deleted an Apple generated Genius mix. Is there any way to get it back ? To be clear, this is not a list I created by clicking on the genius icon.

How do I delete genius mixes automatically created by iTunes on my iPad 2? I have never enabled Genius and do not want to use it. The Genius mixes do not appear in the iTunes sidebar; rather, they appear only on my iPad above the playlists I have created myself.

I'm trying to completely remove itunes from my macbook pro. Before the constant questions about why I want to do this: I just don't want it. I haven't felt a need to use it since I got this macbook in over 3 years, and I don't want it cluttering up my computer asking for autoupdates. I also don't want the auto update program to keep telling me to install itunes every week, because, again, I just don't want it.
So, I need a way to uninstall itunes and also stop autoupdate from telling me that I need to download the latest version. I've already deleted every file that has "itunes" in the name, including the receipt and the application itself, but my comp keeps telling me to update it.
How do I keep this from happening week after week?

When on my iMac my iTunes app will launch by itself - and after a time will start playing an audio selection, the choice of which depends on what area of iTunes was the last one I was on. Why does iTunes auto-launch? How can I stop it from auto-launching?
BTW, iTunes is the only app that does this. Not sure if this is an iMac or iTunes configuration issue.

I started to use alarm clock 2 an alarm clock application. But for some reason even though I deleted all the alarms I had set to go off, one still seemed to linger on. And it is still lingering on even though I have deleted the application.
Every morning Itunes launches and starts playing music at 8am and there is no indication that there is another application launching it. I've looked in widgets? that didn't work and I cannot seem to find where the problem is so I can fix it. Also this thing, whatever it is is intefering with my computer for instance I cannot rotate with cmd+tab, through the open applications anymore.
Can someone help me stop iTunes 10.6 from asking me for my password for purchases etc. The box to save my password is always checked, but more times than not I still get flagged to enter my password. I ran the Keychain repair tool and it reported no errors. How can I fix this problem.

My HDD had been clicking at me for awhile on my rev a macbook air but I never bothered to take it in. Recently disk utility reported my drive as failing, so I decided to make an appointment with a genius. I've used my MBA air pretty heavily, including international travel quite a bit so it has some wear and tear.
I get there and he takes it to the back, comes back and says because of of a dent on the back of the casing (knocked it against a wall on accident), the fact the button on my touchpad was clicking and I had a screw missing in the bottom of my air that they could replace to dive but I would not like the price. It would be $900.00 and that's because they had to get the air in it's original condition appearance wise before they could send it to apple for repair
The fan in my Alu Macbook has given up the ghost. Regardless of temp it never switches on, so I need to get it replaced. There's an Apple Store opening up in the town I work this week, so I was wondering if this is the sort of fault they can fix while I wait?

View 10 Replies View RelatedThis new version of iTunes (Mac OS X) creates a folder by the name of "Automatically Add to iTunes" on my Desktop (which is also the Music/Download folder by default). No idea what it's supposed to be good for, but no matter how much I trash it to stop cluttering the landscape, it gets re-created at every launch.
QUICK WORKAROUND: Using FileXaminer (or similar utility), make it invisible.
How do I remove any application association with the F8 key? F8 is currently launching iTunes when I hit it and since I don't use iTunes on my work computer and need F8 for other functionality this is interfering with my workflow. I do not see any association with the F8 key in System Preferences > Keyboard Preference Pane > Keyboard Shortcuts. The only thing listed there is: Move focus to staus menus ^F8 I also do not see any way to remove the F8 association in any of the iTunes preferences.

Today I just received a spam via iTunes. It seems to have legitimately come from Apple, as the "Received:" line added by my ISP's mail server line is: Received: from badger1301.apple.com ([17.254.6.174]) by m1pismtp01-010.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net with ESMTP; 11 May 2012
... and Apple does own that IP address. My iTunes account contact preferences don't permit Apple to send me any junk. How is it that Apple is allowing unknown third-parties to spam me? (And, more importantly, how do I get it to stop?)

I purchased a TV show yesterday in HD but have only been successful in downloading the first episode. Whenever I click to download the proceeding episodes from the cloud, it downloads for a second and then stops. The only thing that I figured could be the issue is lack of space. So, I deleted some other tv shows off my Mac. However, I am still having the same issue.

I just purchased a new iMac with the latest iTunes (12.)
I'd transferred my iTunes off the old Mac Mini onto an external HD. During the setup of the new iMac, I imported to library from the external HD. Now my music list includes songs from the iMac HD AND the cloud purchases. When I play the songs, iTunes will play both those copies on the Mac as well as DOWNLOAD the song from the cloud.
i'm on a limited data plan & I don't want songs downloaded which already exist on my HD. Where's the "stopper" for this?
