since two weeks or so I cannot play some imported or bought songs from the iTunes Store any more. Instead iTunes describes the Size of the file as "Stream" and doesn´t play anything.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI just noticed this right now. Basically I'm in the process of converting my entire collection to iTunes file structure/format and am reembedding artwork. I've been using google and I can find a file that's approximately 125 kb's (600 x 600) and DRAG the file from the safari window into either the album art box in the left hand corner and/or the get info box and the size of the files will increase significantly. Â
For instance, I grabbed a 135 kb album artwork for Adele 21 and it jacked up the size of the album by 10 mb's. Alternatively, if I save that file directly to my computer and drag it, as a file, into that same box, the size of the album only increases proportionate to the size of the file so 135 kb's x 16 songs (approximately 2 mb's). Is there a reason fro the difference? Does this have to do with iTunes converting the file to png if dragged from the safari window.  I was purposely avoiding higher quality artwork cause the file sizes were increasing so significantly. I was more worried downstream when I dragged these albums to my iPhone. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. If this is the route that I have to go then that's fine with me. I'll proceed with saving each individual file and going about it that way.

I've used Handbrake to encode several movies. Because I wanted them as "lossless" as possible they were encoded used H.264 (and are m4v files) and are in the 7-8GB range.
I'm not actually importing the movies but just pointing iTunes to the drive they sit on. For some reason it won't add them to the iTunes library. What gives? Is there a file size limit?
I made a playlist of 103 songs, which, at the bottom of the window, showed 6.2 hours, 708.1 MB. So I burn it, and iTunes separates it into 3 disks. Now the info on one disk shows 22 songs 1.2 hours and a rollicking 783.6 MB!Â
How is it that 22 songs on the disk have a larger file size than 103 songs in the playlist?Â

I was wondering if there is a small file size limit to the FAT32 file system. I recently picked up a 1TB WD external with Firewire (pre-formatted FAT32) and have been transferring movies and such fine, but I just tried transferring an HD movie (5GB) and some large .dmg's/.iso's and they all just fail with an error.
Is this a size limitation, and will i need to reformat the drive to fix it, or is there something else I'm missing?
When converting a .pptx file of 6MB to .pdf, the file size ballooned to 25MB. The original file was created on a PC. What happened?

I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.Â
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.Â

I'm using iTunes 9.2.1 and it states that my music library is 159.99gb with 25,994 songs, however the folder containing music files is 171.26gb with 30,309 files. This is a difference of 11.27gb and 4315 files. The folder only contains mp3 or m4a files with their respective album and band folders; no images, text files or anything else. The iTunes folder is located elsewhere. I added the folder to iTunes again to see if there were 11gb of songs I'd forgotten to add and there was no difference. I even deleted all iTunes settings and the current library and added the folder again and it is still missing 11.27gb.
I'm about 95% sure that none of my music collection is missing from iTunes so my first thought was that iTunes is just reading the file sizes and count inaccurately and it really is 171.26gb, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone think of a solution without going though my entire collection and comparing it to iTunes to see if anything is missing?
I dragged a folder from an external hard drive into iTunes containing the songs I want on my new MacBook.
But, for some reason the file size shown in iTunes is 47.66GB whereas Finder says my iTunes Music folder is 50.38GB
I have two photo stream files in the iphoto "recent". For some reason I have "photo stream" & "Jan 2012 photo stream" Would like to get rid of the later.....how?

I just installed Adobe CS4 which includes Flash Player 10. Since then, my QucikTime does not pop up and open stream audio file automatically. Instead, the Flash Player opens the file within the safari 4. Is there any way that I can make QuickTime Player become the default player for this type of file?

The HiFi sees my plalists, artists, albums, tracks etc. but will not play the stream. I use Eyeconnect as my uPnP streamer, this has been working with no problems since before Christmas until the iTunes upgrade.

When I search for a file, the size of the file � how big the file is � is not shown.
I would very much like to see the size of the file when searching for a file.
When I select a file in my Finder, I want to be able to see the file size. I've googled and googled but found nothing. don't tell me to hit the spacebar. There must be some little app or script to enable this right ?

I saw some info on the net about saving the stream in Quicktime as a .mov and then dragging the file to the iTunes library, but trying to save the stream in Quicktime just produces a 'Saving' progress bar which progresses at a glacial pace - I think it would never actually finish. Another method mentioned using Flip4Mac but it may be referring to an earlier version as the Preferences panel is different to that mentioned in the instructions (which are a few years old).
So, are there any other ways around this? I'd like to be able to drag the streams into my 'various Radio stations' folder so I can treat it like an mp3 stream.
I use my iMac as my TV, entertainment center, etc at home and I stream audio from there to an Airport Express hooked up to my stereo. Using Airplay in iTunes and third party apps like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil this works for just about anything: my music library, live TV through EyeTV and non DRM movies...but I like to download rental movies from iTunes and for some reason I can't stream audio from iTunes movies. I understand that this is a documented limitation of iTunes and Airplay, and there can be some issues with audio and video getting out of sync due to the buffering, but if Airfoil can do it, why not iTunes? The Airfoil video player is pretty basic, but it compensates for the buffering delay without any problems, and I can even use VLC to manually add a delay into the video track.

As far as I know the system creates swap files with ~80 MB in size if necessary. My question is if there is an optimum allocation size for people with 1.25 GB Ram.
I've noticed that when I buy a song off of the itunes store on my itouch, the song is pretty big. like a 7 minute song would be 16 megs. That resembles something like what you would see with 320 kbp rate or whatever. is there an option to specify what quality it is when I buy a song off itunes?
I have an fcp file that is 244 mb - but when I export it to quicktime to convert into mov - it ends up being 2.2gb!! What am I doing wrong? My final mov final needs to be less than 1 gb for where I am submitting it. I even tried cutting and pasting only the 10 min sequence I want from fcp into a NEW PROJECT (in fcp) and then exporting only THAT sequence into mov---but it still makes it 2.2 gb. Need this asap-

1. From within Pages or any other application you're creating a PDF from, click on "Print" in the File pull-down menu.
2. In the Print dialog box, click on the third pull-down menu box ("Copies and Pages"). Select "ColorSync" from the pull-down menu.
3. Click on the "Quartz Filter" button and select "Reduce File Size."
4. Click "Save as PDF."
I cannot find "Copies and Pages" I do have a choice to change which standard ColorSync but nowhere can I find "Quartz Filter". I'm using Pages 09 and have a brand new iMac - one month old.
How do you reduce a pdf that is too large to email?
