When I open a file in finder, it shows me how big the file is. Great.
When I search for a file, the size of the file � how big the file is � is not shown.
I would very much like to see the size of the file when searching for a file.
I have tried all of the combinations of settings I can think of. Currently I have the size column allows show up as well as having "calculate all sizes" enabled. I can always find the value I want with get info, but some of my directories and files display the size while others don't. I can't figure out any real pattern, aside from the following:
1. my non-bootable secondary hard drive doesn't display any sizes in Finder
2. sometimes sizes will be displayed for a particular set of directories and files and sometimes they won't (this is not a case of not being patient enough for the values to be calculated). The only pattern here seems to be that all files in particular directory will show file size or none.
3. sizes can not work in finder, but will show up in path finder or vice-versa.
Normally, the Finder window will display a folder's size in the Size column. However, I have one folder which shows as "Zero KB" in the Size column. When I open the General Info window, the Size reads as "Zero KB on disk (Zero bytes) for 0 items."
In order to get the folder size I have to go into the folder, select all folders, then with either the Summary Info or Inspector window, it'll show the folder size ("185.32 GB on disk").
Why is this occurring in only this folder? Is it because it's a large folder?
I'm running Snow Lep 10.6.2. The folder is on an external drive in FAT32 format.
I purchased Xslimmer recently,and I've just notice a big issue. In Xslimmer, it says the current size of the app is say 20 mb, but Finder says it is 50 mb. Same thing after I slim it. I checked on a different computer, and it said the same thing. Could someone check the filesize of Mail.app in Finder (mine was 77.4 mb), and the current size in XSlimmer (said it was 25.5mb).
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs you can see from the image above, finder is showing that apps are taking up nearly 30 GB, nearly 25 GB less than system information. What is causing this or which one is the actual size of the apps. It's not as if I'm runing out of space , I'm just a bit curious.

I was wondering if there is a small file size limit to the FAT32 file system. I recently picked up a 1TB WD external with Firewire (pre-formatted FAT32) and have been transferring movies and such fine, but I just tried transferring an HD movie (5GB) and some large .dmg's/.iso's and they all just fail with an error.
Is this a size limitation, and will i need to reformat the drive to fix it, or is there something else I'm missing?
When converting a .pptx file of 6MB to .pdf, the file size ballooned to 25MB. The original file was created on a PC. What happened?

I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.

Recently, Finder windows have not been keeping there default size. For example, I have to extend the Finder window size every time when opening the Finder.

Nothing annoys me more than having to keep resizing bloody windows, because the default size has horizontal and vertical scroll bars! I like my Finder window to accommodate 5 folders horizontally.
I've been looking into Terminal commands to see if there is anything in there that would allow me to change the default dimensions, but found nothing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is one of the things I haven't figured out how to do yet on my mac. I miss this feature which was so easy in windows. Select multiple files and click properties and you get a file size count. If you do the same thing on a mac you get a number open for each file. If you need a cumulative total quickly its a pain in the butt to add each file.
What am I missing here?
Also, any way to display file size at the bottom of a finder window? When you click a file, it says "1 of X selected" and the amount of hard drive space free which is cool, but file size at the bottom would be nice to have.
Anyone know how to set Finder Window to default size ? I tried looking and cannot find anything about it.

I have one user account with small (say 9pt) Sidebar items in the custom list of Folders/Places. That user was migrated from Leopard but I do not recall if it came over like that or I set it up. I want a game to play my favorite song when the game is supposed to be playing its own theme song. The theme song is in a sound file that is located on my computer's hard drive. The theme song sound file is in the same format as the sound file that contains my favorite song, so I don't need to convert any files. What is the easiest way to make the game think that the sound file I want the game to use is the sound file of the theme song?

I partitioned my disk using Terminal's diskutil. I decided i didnt need the partition anymore, so i deleted it (using Disk Utility.app) and added the free space to my mac partition. Basically, Finder and Terminal dont show the free space added back, and Disk Utility shows the space added back to the disk. I tried restarting, repairing disk (which coincidentally had an unrelated problem), repairing permissions, but the problem is still happening

As far as I know the system creates swap files with ~80 MB in size if necessary. My question is if there is an optimum allocation size for people with 1.25 GB Ram.
I've noticed that when I buy a song off of the itunes store on my itouch, the song is pretty big. like a 7 minute song would be 16 megs. That resembles something like what you would see with 320 kbp rate or whatever. is there an option to specify what quality it is when I buy a song off itunes?
