ITunes 10.6.3 will not start under osx 10.5.8 unless Quicktime 7.5.5 or newer is installed. But apple.com will not let me download that version.

I am trying to play a TV show purchased recently from the iTunes store and get the following error message:
"This movie requires Quicktime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."
This is the latest version of iTunes 10.6, and I tried reinstalling it with no luck. My Mini never had a problem before iTunes 10.6 and it meets all the system requirements for iTunes 10.6.
Why would the iTunes store sell a TV show that requires Quicktime while the latest version of iTunes doesn't support Quicktime?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the update on the 6th Feb, and now when I try to rip a cd to ITunes in AAC format, I get this error message: "The current encoder settings for bitrate and sample rate are not valid for this file" Now I know that everything was fine on 4th Feb, as I ripped some cd tracks in AAC format ok. The only solution I have found so far, is to go into Prefs>Advanced>importing and change to either Apple lossless or Mpeg (320), and the tracks rip fine? Can I get back to how I was, ie using AAC somehow - or has it been corrupted by the Quicktime download 7.6 on 6th Feb. I have no back up at this stage? Has anyone else had this problem?

Happens on both of my patched ROM'ed 4780's. Can be tested ad infinitum by opening quicktime, playing few seconds of any video, pausing it, then setting "Put monitor to sleep" to 1 minute in Energy Saver and waiting one minute. As soon as my monitor is fully off and I wake it up I get crash report.................
Quicktime and iTunes have been crashing just randomly. Sometimes straight away on startup and it takes 4 crashes to actually stay open, other times it's fine straight away. I've done tested the Machines RAM with Memtest and Rember, pulled it out and put them in different slots and put the RAM back down to 2GB. Deleted all the preferences, new accounts, repair permissions, all the usual stuff.
In the end I just got the ***** so reinstalled the whole OS onto a different hard drive. Fresh install, latest updates, and does it again with Quicktime and iTunes. It never really seems to affect any other programs. (I did get Adium crash today, but that's very very rare)
Just upgraded iTunes to 9.0.2, and now when I open either iTunes or Quicktime, the icons are blank, like light is below where the icon should be, there is a space on the dock, but nothing's there! Is this happening to anyone else?

any song i listen to in itunes skips horribly! also, the audio from any movie file i play in either quicktime or VLC has the same problem.
i have updated all three programs to the current version.
i tried disabling my login items as recommended by some advice i found by googling, but this didn't work either.
i also made a new admin account to see if the problem would still occur on a fresh account and it did.
i don't know what else to do. what could be causing this problem?
might it be hardware related? i don't know how to check for that.
I am now having problems playing SD movies across all my applications, they look pixillated. I never had this problem until I updated to 10.6.4. I didn't update iTunes and was/am afraid to do any more updates.

ITunes won't play my video anymore and it's been a while I'm not sure when it occurred if it's after an update to snow leopard or iTunes updates. But the movies are quicktime movies in my library and the MPEG-4 plays in iTunes but not on APPLE TV. From all my videos I get one only going through APPLE TV and when I try opening it it says error occured why opening and never works? It seems APPLE is regularly messing things up in updates to loose people so they have to pay for tech support, I didn't upgrade to iPhoto 11 and cannot import anything anymore into it so my entire library is a dead one; not a cool way to do business than messing people software so they have to buy newer versions!

I just finished exporting a movie from FCPX as a .mov. From there, I shared it with iTunes. I've tried sharing it with iTunes 3 times and each time when it finishes, the movie won't play. It's just a black screen with no audio. The timeline moves but no video. I've done this many times before and all of my other videos play fine. This video is about an hour and a half and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. All of my other videos I've shared with iTunes, that play fine, are shorter. The longest is 25 minutes.
