IMac :: Refubs In The Store For The 3.06 Imac With The 8800 Cards?
Apr 26, 2009
There is some refubs in the store for the 3.06 imac with the 8800 cards. Will this be quicker than my unibody MBP 2.53 and 9600 video card?I use ilife 09, firefox, alittle gaming using bootcamp and XP.I don't know if I should sell the MBP and buy the Imac because I don't ever move the MBP and like the 24" monitor

Has anybody upgraded their Mac Pro's stock graphics card to the NVIDIA card?
Does it make a big difference?
I'm playing way to much X3 Reunion at the moment, and I've noticed that the graphics on the PC screenshots look a lot better than what my Mac Pro produces. I don't know if it's a Cider thing, or simply down to the stock graphics card in the Mac Pro being a bit pants?

Acoording to this site the Top Spec old iMac's had GeForce 8800 The new ones have a GT 130. I am struggling to find any information on the GT 130's and i *think* the Nvidia site says the GT 130 have much lower specification than the 8800 GS. So how do they compare? Surely, the GT 130 is a lot better, right?

I am trying to find similar comparisons. The refurb with 8800 is only 1599... which even to me looks like a great deal. Yet I am trying to find the two comparisons that work.
Searching is yielding lots of trash so I am probably too stupid to use that feature
I figure on popping in 4gb of RAM and being done with it, since I am only spending 1600 I look at it this way, if a real upgrade comes out in August I won't be out much if anything.

I was thinking about a 3.06 Last Gen with 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800. How does this card fair? is it similar to the Nividia GT 120 or 130? is it able to handle all games at least on low settings? (i.e. crysis, sims 3 etc)

ok so i have had my imac for over a year now, and the graphic card ram burned out a few weeks ago. i figured it was just because i was working it too hard. usually im running a second monitor, and almost constantly playing a video game on one with hulu running on the other. so i thought no big deal i have apple warranty for the next 3 years, so i took it into the store (which is almost 150miles from where i live). well a week later i went and picked it back up after they had "fixed" my problem by replacing the whole card.
but it hasn't been more then three weeks and im experiencing the same problem. i stopped using my second monitor when i got it back, so i have no clue why its doing this.

Okay so like most people have asked this before, what is it? The GS only has 384mb of video ram, and this has 512mb of video ram. What is this graphics cards real name and what are the specs of it?

I purchased my Mac a few weeks ago, wanting to both upgrade my computer.......and play Diablo 3. I do always want the best out of my systems and the person who sold me the mac told me it would be fairly easy to upgrade the card...well he was wrong. He also told me a few days later not to worry about upgrading since the system is already great.
I went to a local Mac store and asked about the upgrade and found out it would be close to or above a grand for the part from Apple and the labor.
Heres the breakdown:
$875 - Card
$130 - Labor
$15 - Shipping (from apple)
Are there any other ways to find this part online cheaper and just hopefully pay for the labor?
I just really dont want to pay a grand just to upgrade my damn video card, and I know within the new year Apple will release a much better fast computer and I'll be mad. I really wish it wasn't such a hard upgrade.

Over the year I have collected 10+ visa giftcards and now want to buy a upgraded iMac. I know the online apple store only allows for two credit cards, which the visas count as, but if I go to a retail store do they still restrict you or can I use visa giftcards as much as I want.

I'm thinking of getting myself a Mac. I have not decided on much more than this. Well, a few things have been sorted. I'm either going for a MB 13" as a nice little e-mail and surfing companion or I'm getting the next iMac. If I would go for the latter then it would have to serve as a gaming platform as well and preferably for a couple of years.
Since gaming will be a good part of the duties performed by the dear little thing I must ask what we could expect in terms of graphics cards?
I'm aware that Apple often use last generation GC in their computers so a GeForce GT 120M is probably out of the question.

If you are running Aperture 3 on a new iMac, please let us know your impressions. I'm specifically interested in learning if the i5's quads with 1G graphics cards are significantly better than the i3's.

I'd like to start by saying excuse the stupid questions, I'm still very new with using macs. I'm a long time PC user, but I've recently made plans to replace my PC with an iMac. Specifically a 21.5" with an Intel i3 processor. This mac comes with 4gb ram, and a Radeon 5650 HD graphics card.
Now I'm a fairly big gamer, and I like my hardware to be as high-end and up-to-date as possible. If I were to plan on upgrading the graphics card, ram, and processor, could this be easily done at home?
I'm asking because of the unusual structure of the iMac. i.e. the lack of tower, and all the hardware being merged with the screen. I'm assuming it would be a lot easier on a mac pro because it actually has a tower that I can easily open/customize.
Lastly, granted that the above is possible, are the generic graphics cards, processor, and ram chips compatible with iMacs? Or would I need to buy a special iMac compatible version from an Apple specialist shop?

it appears my graphics card on my old iMac G5 is toast. I took it to the Apple Store and they said they'd have to replace the whole logic board for around $680. After searching around this forum, that does appear to be the only fix. My question is this: is the graphics card on the newer iMacs soldered into place as it was in the older iMacs (G5 and I believe the first gen Intels as well)? Because, if so, that is really lame and may affect my computer replacement decision.

For all of you who are looking to compare video cards here is a decent list:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rd,2011-6.html
I think the 120 = 9500GT and the 130 = 9600GT. Please correct me if I am wrong as I am not positive about this.

So back in the days, if u had windows based computer and wanted to use the imac screen with that computer, u could get 4890 (which is out of stock) or the 5970 which is pretty expensive. So im wondering if this has been solved by ati in newer driver updates, and im wondering if anyone with a radeon 5870/5850 dekstop gpu and confirm this working with a imac 27" screen.

Look at [URL] there are some specs about snow leopard and OpenCL (supported video cards)
- NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GTS, Geforce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130.
- ATI Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870
Is my GF 8800 GS not supported?

In the tech specs for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard it only lists the ATI Radeon 4850 and 4870 for supported graphics cards for OpenCL so does this new 4670 support OpenCL? I think it would be pretty silly to have the cheaper iMac with the GeForce 9400M support it but not the next step up with a dedicated card.

so I have a mid 2010 2.66 i7 MBP, and the hard drive failed today (I have it back up running off an external HD). I called Applecare and Apple all but demanded I drive 3+ hours to an Apple store to get it looked at.Spending a day driving and at an Apple store is not in the cards.I asked they just ship me a new HDD and I'll put it in, but they don't want to do that.I will have to ship the laptop back to ??? and wait until they send it back.Is this common?I have used Applecare before with a new MBP years ago and they just shipped me a replacement. This MBP is near my replacement cycle, but I'm not ready yet.

I'm about to buy a new Macbook and I was wondering how people stored their files. For example, I have all my music on my iMac - do people normally share music and photos between their computers?
I'm thinking that having two computers can be quite frustrating if some of the files are on a desktop and you're out and about with a laptop.
I don't want to have all my data spread across two machines - I think this might be confusing!
