IMac :: SSD - Install OSX As Well As All Apps?

Sep 22, 2010

I'm going to get a SSD for my new 27" iMac, core i7. I know to install OSX on the SSD, and I's also like to install all my apps, including CS5 suite on the SSD as well. Is there any reason why I shouldn't do that?

I'm tired of waiting for the CS5 suite to open.

OS X :: How To Install Apps From Install Disk Without Starting From Scratch?

Aug 23, 2009

Searched the archives but no luck so far. My old PB G4 is running 10.4.11. When I installed the OS, I chose not to install iPhoto and iMovie because I didn't think I'd need them on this machine. I'd now like to add them, but am not sure how to do it without wiping the hard drive and starting completely from the beginning. There's got to be an easier way...right?

I have a new 21.5" iMac and have been playing around with everything. When I started two weeks ago I had an Apps folder with the Apps logo on the dock to the right of the dotted separation. All the applications are there lined up with the first application showing but for my consternation I cannot put the Applications in there folder like it was when I started out two weeks ago. This is the Snow Leopard OS.

MacBook Pro :: Install SSD And Apps Only

Apr 3, 2012

I wonder how can I install apps only (transfer) if I want to replace my 500Gb HDD with a 128Gb SSD drive? My intention is to take the superdrive out and replace it with my old HDD and then install a 128Gb SSD in the original bay but I only want to run my Apps from that one. All storage will be from my old HDD in the SD bay.

OS X :: Run And Install IPhone / IPad Apps With Next Version

Mar 2, 2010

I'm convinced that the next version of OSX will allow you to install and run natively all iPhone and iPad apps, with future screens being touch enabled, and those that aren't let you use the mouse instead of your finger when gesturing. I can't wait till I can install and run the facebook app on a MBP, for no reason in particular, just because I can.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Standard User Cannot Install Apps

May 3, 2012

I have setup a Mac Mini in my office for several people to use, with me as Admin and others as Standard account. The problem is, when someone wants to install an app, they always get a prompt to input the Admin's username and password.  From my research, I was under the impression that Standard users could install apps, but only for their own account, which is what we want.  But for some reason, it's not working that way. I did a Google search and following one recommendation, used Disk Utiltiy to repair permissions on the hard drive of both the Admin and Standard User account in question, but with no positive result.  I'm a bit reluctant to just give Admin privileges to one person; then others will may ask for the same privileges.

PowerPC :: Can Use My Ibook Dvd Drive To Install Apps Onto My G4 Power Mac

Jan 27, 2007

I have a g3 dual usb ibook that has a DVD/CD drive, 640 ram and a firewire port. I just bought a G4 800 mhz tower that has a gig of ram, but it does not have DVD drive (it's a cdrw only). My Ilife install disk is a DVD, is there anyway to use the DVD drive on my ibook to install software onto the G4 tower? Both devices have firewire but if possible I would like to use an ethernet cable connection between the two. I dont have the correct firewire cable(it's expensive).

A second question is i an os 10.3 on my ibook and 10.4 on my G4 tower. Is there a easy way to transfer all my files, settings, ect... from the ibook to the G4 tower? I don have the osx 10.4 install discs either (if that matters).

OS X :: Clean Install Of Snow Leopard - Best Way To Move Data And Apps

Dec 2, 2009

I had issues with my old hard drive that kept from using time machine, address book syncing with mobile me, shutting down, disk repair, and permissions repair. Next, I did extensive research on each issue and realized the best thing to do was upgrade my hard-drive (from 110 Gigs to 500 Gigs and an additional gig of memory) and start fresh with Snow Leopard I used carbon copy to do a complete bootable copy of my previous hard drive. I do not have any time machine backups. I opted to save time and have a local shop (Onyx here in Atlanta) do the HD install I did not have them do a data move or port. So now I am left with getting all my necessary apps, preferences, and other data (photos, iTunes, etc...) either installed and updated or moved from the old hard-drive.

I've run across a few threads on here that talk about these items but I still have a few questions. Some are basic so please forgive me. Will I have any problems reinstalling the applications (like iWork, MS Office 08, Adobe Acrobat 8, Omni Focus, Omni Notetaker, and/or other paid apps) with the serial numbers used on my previous hard-drive? Is it better to reinstall these apps or move them over? How does one move over apps? Is it best to the migration tool? (I've never used the migration tool)

I don't want to corrupt my permissions or library files as I had done on my previous harddrive. So will using the migration tool to move apps over move over the corrupted or troubled library files associated with particular apps? Are there good threads that speak to these particular issues? Also, are there helpful guides, online bo oks or sites that speak to these issues? I do want to get a clean start but there are some things I dont' want to lose. Things like my bookmarks in Firefox and Safari, my OmniFocus database. Lastly, the technician thought my original 110 gig hard-drive was about physically die due to how slowly it shut down and given the issues I was having. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

OS X Mavericks :: Why Do So Many Apps Require Administrative Rights To Install / Update

Sep 10, 2014

I know that my Mac is technically a multi-user system, but it offends me mightily to have to give administrative rights to programs from Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc when they should clearly be able to function in a single-user install available only to my userid.

I can see where firewall software and maybe stuff like vmware needs it but there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason for letting nearly every software company on the planet have super user access to my filesystem. Once I give them such rights its trivial for them to set up a set-uid permission as root on some little executable tucked away in their install.

Any way to force software to just install in your own userspace? Is there some type of jail/chroot I could set up to protect my system from these programs?

IMac :: Install New Hard Drive But Missing Leopard Install Disc

Jan 30, 2010

I'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?

The internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.

Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).
