IMac :: What Time Do They Normally Announce For Refresh?
Jul 13, 2010
Just wondering; "IF" there is going to be an iMac refresh, what time is it usually announced? I'm in the UK so we are about 8 Hours ahead of US Western Time. Just would like to know so I can check back here at the right time to see if an announcement has been made or not.

I have had my Mac for about 4 months now and I have noticed that it does not announce the time on the hour anymore. I have the option set in Date and Time, but it does not work. I just did an Archive and Install today, so it is not the system.

I have my main Mac in my bedroom. I like having it announce the time during the day but at night it wakes me up. I can manually turn it off at night but sometimes I forget. Is there a way to have it automatically turn off the Announce Time feature overnight and then automatically come back on in the morning?

So I had decided to bite the bullet a week and a half ago and order an iMac i7 refurb for $1900 from the Canadian Apple Store...
So here's this refresh that has a new graphics card (and minor speed enhancements?)
I am thinking of buying SC2 (and other games in the future) and I'm wondering if its worth returning my current i7 model to get a new i5 refresh with a new graphics card?
I mainly will be using my computer for online video marketing (creating promo videos for businesses) and keynote/screenflow videos...so I know my i7 will deliver in that aspect...
I just would hate to know that I bought a "new computer" that isn't as "future proof" as this new refresh (I plan to keep my computer for 3-4 years)

I was just wondering how Apple announces new products. I'm waiting for some sort of announcement for the new MacBook Pro. If there's a conference soon then maybe that's when they will announce it? Or do they just do it on their website or something?

Does anyone think Apple will release updated notebooks any time in the near future? I know anything we come up with will purely be speculation, but sometimes Apple tends to follow trends. My 17" i5 MBP was just replaced with a gift card, and I'm wondering if I should wait for a bit (Apple had a Mac event in October to announce the unibody) or go ahead and get what I want now. I suppose I can always sell it later if something THAT much better is released.

Is it possible that the sender (From) field of every incoming mail is announced? This would be fine when I'm in the same room, but away from my Mac. At the moment I only hear a beep when mails arrive, have to go to the Mac and check the sender, mostly in vain.

When I went to BestBuy, the Apple section of the store had an iMac, that would announce the name of the song before it played. I asked the Apple rep there and he didn't know how it did that, he told me it came with the computer. How would I make iTunes do that?

What do you guys think the next MBPs will have in them, cost, look like and when do you think they will be released?
Personally I think the 13 inch will have an i3 in it whereas the 15s and 17 will just have a small speed increase. I reckon sandy bridges will come in the refresh after the next one. Same ram, maybe better GPUs same hard drives. Hopefully USB 3.0 but I doubt it. They will look the same and hopeful follow the same pricing structure.
What do you think?

After having my great 17" for 6 years is time to start looking for a new one. Would anybody please tell me what is the usual date Apple upgrades them? I don't want to rush and buy a new one if a newer model is around the corner. My current two MBP's are still working well. what the difference would be in configuration between a 2.2 and 2.4 GHz? Is it worth it paying extra? I do normal use of my laptop. Â Do the new MBPs get as hot as the old models? I meassured the temperature on mine and it reached 114 degrees. Â

Since upgrading my iMac to the latest versions of Lion and Safari, I have noticed that the browser sporadically refreshes. This is most apparent while adding items from a Perl scripted shopping cart (url...) but I have also noticed it when viewing images in a Google search. The random refreshes do no occur in mobile Safari, nor in Firefox 12.

media event the MBP was not even mentioned. It was pretty much the new release of the iPad. The MacBook Pro released June 08, 2009. Obviously we can see that it has been over 6 months, and down to be an update.

Ok, here's my big question, will the GPU switching in the refresh MBPs perform the same in bootcamp? I'm thinking of running simple window stuff at most times which clearly won't need the 330 and then games every now and then which will. I'm thinking of still converting over in about 2-3 weeks when I get to Ohio.

A week ago iTunes just stopped downloading any podcast that I am subscribed to. If I go to the podcast section of the iTunes Store, find a podcast that I am already subscribed to and click the download an episode, everything works fine. It's just that iTunes refuses to refresh any podcasts. This is not iTunes saying that I haven't listened to a podcast in a while would I like to resume; this is I select a podcast, ask it to refresh and nothing happens. Same if I ask iTunes to refresh all podcasts.
