IMac :: Resolution Of 24" Reduced?

Mar 3, 2009

Have I missed something, or has the "new" iMac's 24" screen been reduced in resolution?

Update: Looks like their res info has been wrongly entered if one scrolls down on this page: [URL]

Going to the "Compare" page shows the higher res spec.

Intel Mac :: Screen Resolution Reduced When Mirroring External Display

May 14, 2012

I have a 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24" early 2009) iMac running OS 10.7.3 (Lion) to which I have connected an Apple Cinema Display as an external monitor using a Mini Display-to-DVI adapter. The iMac is set to 1920 x 1200 resolution and the Cinema Display is at 1680 x 1050, and everything looks great until I turn on mirroring. When I do this, the iMac screen loses its nice crisp screen resolution, but the Cinema Display still looks fine. Strangely, the pull down menu for displays in the menu bar still claims that the iMac is at 1920 x 1200 and the Cinema Display is at 1680 x 1050, but I don't think this is the case. Is there any way to keep the iMac at the higher resolution while mirroring?

OS X :: Airport - Speed Is Reduced?

So, maybe it doesnt rly matters now because i got tired of this BS and im getting a power line for my mac pro. But im rly curious whats up with this new - yet another - problem that popped up with airport. Ok, so i managed to fix all the dropout problems, and after working good for a month or so, now suddently since yesterday my speed is reduced. The speedtest wont go beyond 2000kbps, while it used to be 7500+, and while ethernet does give me 7500+. The signal appears to be good, my channel is far away form the other networks... Thats a tottaly strange problem, its getting me insane that i cant figure out whats causing it

IMac :: Playing Game On Lower Resolution On A 27" IMac

Mar 21, 2010

My old 24" iMac had an ATI radeon 4850 card, and playing some of my favorite game titles (fallout 3, and Dawn of War) worked fine - atleast in comparison to my old White iMac 24".

Now I'm going to purchase a 27" i5 iMac with the Radeon 4850 card. My question is; since its the same GPU and playing in native resolution will be a tough job. Will the quality of playing games in 1080p be much lower?

I just want to know if this will be a significante downgrade. Or if playing games in 1920x1080 will be a good quality choice.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Reduced The Screen Bit Depth?

May 8, 2012

When I was on Snow Leopard I was painting in Photoshop in 16-bit mode on my 21" Wacom Cintiq. It was a fantastic experience to finally have true control in settle changes in hues and shades all over the spectre.

Now that I've updated to Lion, the screen doesn't display true 16-bit graphics anymore, but instead there is pretty noticable banding. A sort of real-time downsampling in bit-depth going on. Even flickering on some grey hues. I'm very sad about this, and it's affecting my work.

I have a hunch Lion is harder on old graphics cards than Snow Leopard was.

Is my machine too old for displaying true 16-bit/ 32-bit graphics with Lion?

In the system info under the graphics card it says: 32-bits color (ARGB8888), but it clearly isn't the case in terms of what is sent to the display.

MacBook Pro, late 2009, 8GB ram, 2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Unibody

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 MB

What I've tried so far (without solving the problem)

Closing Macbook screen to run only one display (Cintiq) (to save graphics memory, I thought) - no change.

Trieid displaying the same 16-bit image in different apps: Photoshop, Preview, Quicklook, Pages - no change

Forced monitor into "billions of colors" using SwitchResX - no real change

Anyone who knows more about this?

I will now try:

- finding Cintiq driver updates

Info:
MacBook Pro

Applications :: Bootcamp Partitions Hardware - RAM Reduced To 2GB Rather 4GB?

Apr 14, 2010

I know this sounds silly and I'm fairly confident that it's false, but a friend of mine told me Bootcamp partitions your hardware specs. In other words your RAM is reduced to 2GBs rather than 4GB and your video card is split from 512MB to 256MB, etc. I really think he's confusing this with VMware Fusion or possibly Parallels but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't too stupid to think he's right.

While on a full charge on Leopard - it would have five hours left. This thing ain't even a year old. I've not raped the battery with electricity. Normal use, this happened exclusively after installing Snow Leopard. This is wierd. I though Snow Leopard was supposed to be using less power, or perhaps it's oposite? Does anyone know?

IMac :: Changing Resolution?

Mar 21, 2010

I'm a little confused about the resolutions of the iMac 21.5 inch compared the iMac 27 inch.

In terms of watching HD content, which is better, as one is 1080p so it is perfectly formatted for this type of content but the other is higher (2560 by 1440 pixels), will this mean it is better because there are more pixels or worse because it is a different size? I'm a little confused about this. Also is it possible to change the resolution to 1920x1080 on the 27 inch? What will this do exactly? If I were to apply a 1920 x 1080 wallpaper for example to the 27 inch iMac will this look better/worse?

OS X :: IMac Resolution For Old People?

May 14, 2010

So my parents just bought a 21.5" iMac which has replaced their aging PC that came with a CRT(!!). The first thing they noticed was that the resolution is too high. Obviously, lowering this makes everything blurry but of course, no such problem with the CRT where they had nice big text and icons.

Surely there must be a way around this? Some software solution perhaps? They've zoomed in with Safari but that doesn't help the rest of the system and is a real pain to do it for every individual app.

Its understandably difficult for them to understand why something so many years advanced of what they had, can't do something so simple as changing resolutions. I even had a hard time exaplaining that this was an LCD issue, and nothing to do with a mac.

However, there is a fair few of us who dislike the high-res because of decreased fonts, smaller graphical interface things.if you had the choice to go for a high-res or normal res antiglare 15", what would you go for?

IMac :: 20 And 24 Native Resolution On The 9400m?

Sep 10, 2009

Which will perform better on wow or any game, an imac 20inch or 24inch with the same spec of 2.66ghz 9400m 4gb memory?

They're both are almost identical but the native resolutions are different.I'm comparing a 20inch imac resolution 1680by1050 to a 24inch 1920by1200.

So I'm guessing the 9400m will do better on a 20inch imac right?

Since the 9400m is not all that powerful so I'm guessing it can't do well on the 1920by1200 when gaming ?

Instead of stretching it out to fill the full screen. I have tried going into the advanced options for the video card and trying out each resolution at different refresh rates, but the result remains the same.

BTW...if it makes any difference I am using windows xp professional with service pack three and my video card is an Radeon HD4850.

IMac :: How Can I Set The Resolution Of Each Display Individually

Question: How can I set the resolution of each display individually? Details below:I have the new iMac 21" and an LG W2252 display from my old PC. I'm a newly converted mac user. I connected it to the imac and it worked. But the resolution is horrible. I can change the resolution when the displays are mirrored. But then when I uncheck mirror the resolution for each display cannot be changed individually. The LG goes out of range and won't show anything until I bring the resolution down and mirror the imac. Is this problem with the LG or the mac?

IMac :: Reducing Resolution From 30"?

Aug 5, 2010

Apple sliced off a bunch of the vertical resolution compared to the 30" Apple Cinema Display.

ACD 30" = 2560x1600
iMac 27" = 2560x1440

Not really a huge deal. I think they did it to make it true 16:9.

I'm just posting this because this somehow slipped past my notice. I'm one of the people demoted from Mac Pro to iMac and now I am sort of wishing I could still use my 30". (I don't have space to use both.)

Not really a big deal. Just an FYI.

Yeah, I know it's my fault for not paying attention. I probably still would have went with the iMac 27" anyway.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Use Custom Resolution For Tv / Best Resolution For An LCD HDTV?

Aug 17, 2010

So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.

I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).
