We are having a hard time with our screen resolution on ouf 20" IMAC..Tried several today but could not get a good screen.
Those of you that have a 20" IMAC send me what you think is best.
I like the 27 inch but saw that the menus and fonts are quite small. How can one true change the resolutions of this like in Vista or Windows 7.

I persuaded a friend to go down the mac route. He now has a 2006 mac pro running Lion. When he boots up he sees the apple and the little counter thing, whatever it's called, and then the screen goes blank and his monitor tells him that there is no signal. I suspect it is as he is putting into VGA via an adaptor where previousy it was attached to apple cinema monitors and the res is set too high. I am trying to find a way to reset the screen resolution blind as he doesn't have anything else to put it through.
Would zapping the pram affect screen res, and if so what else into the bargain?

I'm a little confused about the resolutions of the iMac 21.5 inch compared the iMac 27 inch.
In terms of watching HD content, which is better, as one is 1080p so it is perfectly formatted for this type of content but the other is higher (2560 by 1440 pixels), will this mean it is better because there are more pixels or worse because it is a different size? I'm a little confused about this. Also is it possible to change the resolution to 1920x1080 on the 27 inch? What will this do exactly? If I were to apply a 1920 x 1080 wallpaper for example to the 27 inch iMac will this look better/worse?
I bought a 24" iMac to replace my 18 month old Macbook Pro. It's nice and everything but it doesn't want to cooperate with my Matrox DualHead2Go and I'm wondering if anyone might know why. When I had it attached to the DVI port of the MBP I was able to use the MBP display and two external monitors, each set to 1680x1050. When I attach it to the iMac, it works but the best it will do is less...like each set to 1280x960 or so. Is the video card in the MBP really more capable or is it because the iMac has a much larger screen or is it something else I'm missing?

When I log in as a guest account - the resolution is as it should be at 1680 x 1050 - but when the admin account is logged in, that same resolution - 1680 x 1050 is slightly expanded by the screen size. I can click on the edges of the screen and bring back the menus to do what I need to do.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" imac and have been using an apple led cinema display with it. I have had no problems with the display until today. Yesterday I installed windows 7 via bootcamp and had some trouble with the second display being detected but after downloading all of the bootcamp updates it worked fine. Today I restart my computer back into OSX and the display does not work. I tried resetting the PRam or whatever but that didnt do anything. When I go to system preferences > display there is no longer an option to detect display and there are no longer options to change the screen resolution.
I spoke with an apple tech who has me installing an update but I dont think she really knew what was going on and I doubt this will work. When I reboot back into the windows partition the display works during start up and I see the windows logo. So I dont think its a hardware issue (also the display still works fine with my macbook pro). But as soon as startup finishes I get a black screen. Under the control panel windows still recognizes that there is a 2nd display attached and you can still drag items over to the other screen, I just cant see anything. All black.
i am using a hackintosh for a week now. I am using it just to get used to Mac OS X because i am switching to a Macbook Pro in a couple months. I switched from PC to Mac officially now. OK, let's come to the main topic of this thread;-At first, my hackintosh couldn't get my gfx card, i couldn't find the driver(kext) so my resolution was very bad. Everything was huge and blurry. View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a 27" iMac running 10.6.2 and have installed CS4 only to find that the application toolbars/palettes are really small at the default 2560 x 1440 display resolution.
If I decrease the display to 1920 x 1200, my application toolbars/palettes are legible and a comfortable size to use, but then
the screen is not crisp and nice as the 2560 x 1440....and frankly not pleasant to create graphics in.
Is there any workarounds or solutions to this either through the Mac OS or individually through the Adobe Apps?
Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.

How much battery life do you loose when going for the High-res screen. Some people are complaining about low battery life with their high resolution screen and I was wondering if there is a connection.
Do the standard screen get better battery life. If so, how much better?
My old 24" iMac had an ATI radeon 4850 card, and playing some of my favorite game titles (fallout 3, and Dawn of War) worked fine - atleast in comparison to my old White iMac 24".
Now I'm going to purchase a 27" i5 iMac with the Radeon 4850 card. My question is; since it�s the same GPU and playing in native resolution will be a tough job. Will the quality of playing games in 1080p be much lower?
I just want to know if this will be a significante downgrade. Or if playing games in 1920x1080 will be a good quality choice.
My wife and I have near perfect vision - for being average adults within our mid 40s. Within our Win XP and Win 7 systems, we set their Control Panel - use "large size" fonts and both fonts and menus become larger. Thus, allowing much better "comfort reading" on their default 1600x900 scren resoutions. Within one location, we simply change its "global level" font sizes and menu sizes, and still have clear screen images.

Indeed I can change the resolution now, however it seems only the screen size is changing but everything else it still acting according to the default res. Meaning, the windows maximize won't open all screen (I have to stretch it myself), the tray icons (safari, system preferences etc..) are all very small, and more.

I've got a Samsung LCD HD TV with the resolution 1366x768 My TV (nej means no, and ja means yes), and a Macbook Pro 13" (2010 version, 2,4 GHz). I connect those two with a standard VGA cable, but I can't get the right resolution (1366x768). I've tried to make my Macbook sleep, so my TV id the primary screen, but I can't get the right resolution. 800x600 is the lowest, 1900x1080 is the highest, and the closest to 1366x768 is something like 1340x760 (not exactly that number, but it's pretty close). Can I get 1366x768 resolution my TV when I connect my Macbook?

OSX is running at 1280 by 800 but Windows doesn't have this option, the resolution closest is 1280 by 1024.

I have a 64MB ATI graphics card and can't get the screen resolution I want. It was fine and I had it set to how I like, until I plugged in an S-video cable to my T.V then all the settings changed and now I can't get back to the resolution I had before. I unplugged the cable and tried to change them but still no luck. When I select the desired resolution it makes the screen tiny in the middle of the monitor. The resolution is fine on the T.V. I have a real pet hate of low screen resolutions which is all I can use at the moment. I bought the card on ebay but think it is a PC "flashed" to MAC as the factory drivers CD is PC and MAC drivers are on a cd-r. Is there any way I can clear the memory of the card or the files that the card uses so I can "restore" it to how it was before I connected the s-video. It also asked me in the ATI app (the first time I opened it with the T.V connected) if I wanted to have the connection to the T.V as always on. I removed the app and reinstalled but it seems to have remembered the settings and doesn't ask this again. Is there any way to change it back so it doesn't remember?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm honing in on the purchase of a powerbook. One area that has me a bit confused is the screen resolution of the 15" models. I can see two models that look identical in specs (apart from one having 128Mb of VRAM and the other 64. both are 9700 cards). Anyway one ad says it is 1280x854 widescreen and the other says it is 1440x960 widescreen. I can see these are the same proportions and maybe the 1280x854 can be set at 1440x960. The 1440 one is about 6 months old and the other one is about a year older so maybe some specs were changed. My question is, are these two different resolutions meant to be the native resolution on each machine respectively? Or do they both have the same native resolution and are just set up differently.

It does not show the whole screen and when the cursor moves to the edge of the screen it scrolls/pans from side to side like it doesn't fit.

Does anyone here know the optimal settings in SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX for this screen? I currently use 1280x720 without overscan, which renders a black frame around the image. Is it possible to get an image that fills the entire screen, without losing any information?
