OS X :: Safari 5 Crashing - Beachballs On Loading Sites

Jul 21, 2010

Why or how to stop Safari 5 from beach balling and crashing? I did not have the problem with Safari 4. It done it 3 times today in about 5 minutes. I had a problem last month loading mail from ATT/Yahoo and typed a series of numbers in DNS and that fixed that now this stuff. I thought Apple was better than this. I don't have any problem with Firefox.

OS X :: Safari Giving Beachballs - No Force Quit Have To Restart

Apr 30, 2009

For the last 3 days I will be in an application (safari 4,actually) and the app will give me the beachball. I have seen the beachball many times in safari 4 so I would just force quit the app. Well in doing that its still shown with the blue dot under it on the dock, aswell as in the force quit menu. I go to open another app (say iphoto or firefox) and I also get the beachball, and I try to forcequit the app, and it will not force quit. Only way to cure it is to manually restart my macbook pro. (I have a unibody 2.4 macbook pro btw_). I have repaired permissions. Deleted and reinstalled safari and ran weekly/monthly scripts via cocktail.

MacBook :: Safari Not Loading Websites Until I Click Stop Loading And Reload It?

Apr 1, 2010

I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

OS X :: Dashboard Crashing Widgets Not Loading?

Apr 20, 2009

About a week ago my widgets stopped loading, and only one of them is by a third party. I tried removing that one, but it was not the cause.

I tried disabling all of them, but the manage widgets window froze.

I opened activity monitor, and forced the unresponsive dashboard to quit, but it would just reopen and become unresponsive again.

While the dashboard is crashing my computer processors become dominated by this, and the computer gets very hot. The only way to get it to stop is to restart.

I have a macbook pro, that has been perfectly fine since i got it in december, I can't think of anything I have done recently which would have caused the widgets to suddenly start failing.

I have noticed that if I wait long enough (like an hour) some do load, like the post-it and the calendar. But even still, they are unresponsive.

Applications :: Microsoft Office Apps Crashing Right After Loading?

Jan 18, 2010

Just recently all of my Microsoft Office applications have quit working - they crash as soon as they load. (Sneaky lil buggers act like they are going to work and wait 5 secs after loading a blank template and make me a lil hopeful before they close down!) I have not added any RAM or made any significant changes or updates. I am on a MacBook Pro, OS X version 10.5.8, 2 GB 667 MHz, 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I am getting the following crash report:
Process: Microsoft Word [1895]
Path: /Applications/Microsoft Office X/Microsoft Word
Identifier: com.microsoft.Word
Version: 10.0.0 (10.0.0)
Code Type: PPC (Translated)

Safari :: Cannot Add URL To Top Sites

Apr 9, 2012

I have tried everything that I have read on how to add a site to Top Sites. With two windows open, I try to drag and drop a URL, and the "plus" sign disappears and the URL does not get added to Top Sites. I have tried the top of the page, the sides, the bottom, and the middle where the previews are. It just won't drop. Yes, I've clicked Edit. I've even tried holding the Control, Option, or Command key while dropping.

I have tried adding a site using the Bookmarks, Add Bookmark and choosing Top Sites. When I do this, it does get added to the Top Sites, but when I close and reopen Safari, it is gone - not in Top Sites anymore. I have tried totally re-setting Safari. It does not make any difference. I've tried it on my Mac mini and my MacBook. I can't get it to work with either one. Is there some trick I am missing?

It seems that regardless of how I save them, my Top Sites keep changing. What's the magic trick?

I clicked EDIT, then I dragged URLs into the order that I wanted. Then I clicked the BLUE PUSH PIN to save, and clicked DONE. And then it was different the next time I did Command-T.

Safari :: It Just Won't Save My Top Sites

Jul 6, 2012

I just reinstalled Lion on my MacBook Pro and everything is great except for one small problem that I can't seem to solve. I'm using Safari 5.1.7 and it just won't save my Top Sites. I deleted the TopSites.plist, rearraganged and repinned the Top Sites as was instructed here and here. The Top Sites do stick for a while but then they change again. I repeated this process several times and they still keep changing.

OS X :: Safari Won't Suggest Bookmarked Sites In The Url Bar?

Aug 28, 2010

On my other mac, when I start typing in safari's url bar, it will auto-suggest pages based on the title name of my bookmarked sites (rather than just on the [URL] address url). I just got a brand new MBP and when I start typing in letters into safari's url field, it won't auto-suggest any of the names of the bookmarked pages, it only suggests based on the actual www address. How do I get it to suggest the bookmark's names?

EDIT: On my other machine I have GLIMS installed. Is this a GLIMS' feature? I was under the impression that safari did this itself.

MacBook Pro :: Safari Top Sites Looks Scrambled

Dec 4, 2010

I just got the new 15" mbp and noticed that safari top sites would scramble itself at times. I've looked around the net and seems like a normal occurrence for people with the new MBP's. My question is, what is causing it? And how do you get rid of it? Is it just a matter of turning off "automatic graphic switching" so it's running on the discrete nvidia card? Is it a software issue with flash or safari?

Applications :: New Tab Opened With Safari Top Sites

Sep 9, 2009

Has anybody been having problems with Safari's new Top Sites feature? I've had Safari 4 since the day it came out on public beta, and this feature hasn't seemed to get any better. I seriously dread having to open a new tab, because it automatically opens the awful top sites list. I close my eyes and cross my fingers and pray that I don't get the beachball of death for anywhere from 10-20 seconds. Sometimes it works quickly, especially if I keep testing it over and over. It pretty much just displays a visual of the bookmarks that I already have displayed going across the top of my screen, and I usually just click on the bookmark instead of having to hunt down the page and click on it.

OS X :: Any Way To Disable Safari Top Sites Feature

Nov 15, 2009

I love safari. Its fast, looks great, and does everything I want it to. Outside of poor flash support (I hear macs in general are just bad for flash) everything works. What I don't like in safari is the top sites feature. I don't mind that it keeps track of which websites i visit most often, but I hate how it takes a little snapshot of every website and saves it in the website preview folder in the cache.

I didn't know you had to manually delete it and when I did it was taking up over 1.5 gb of space (/user/library/caches/com.apple.safari/website previews). I don't understand why apple couldn't have just made top sites show your most commonly visited website (like chrome or opera) and instead had to take on the website previews. Is there a way to disable top sites or at least prevent it from saving previews of websites everytime I use it?
