I just bought my first 27 inch IMac a few weeks ago, I am a apple convert, today my mail will not close, the close mail tab is greyed out in to top task bar, and I tried to right click on the app and close that way but no go. Is there yet a third way to shut down mail that I am not aware of as I cannot turn off the IMac until mail is closed, miss the force shutdown tab in pcs.

So, my iMac intel took a fall. It fell on it's side and has no visible damage, in fact it didn't even turn off or stop working till I rebooted a few hours later. Now when I try to start up the desktop loads as normal but the taskbar never loads, nothing responds to the mouse, and eventually the icons disappear, the screen goes blue and it all starts over again, cycling till I shut it off.
I attempted to boot into safe mode, but after the usual long disk check I got a rebooting blue screen, similar to the nn-safe mode boot up but without icons. I've booted from the startup disk with no issues and run verify and repair on the disk. It said there were no problems. How I can get to the bottom of what might be going on?

I have about 10 stickies in the Dashboard with info on them. Initially all of the info disappeared (the stickies remained, but blank). I added all the info back in and this morning 7 of them are blank while 3 of them still show the info I typed in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this issue where my cursor just disappears on my screen. It still registers as there and I can click on things, but cant see the cursor until I bring it down to the dock, and it reappears. It happened a lot with my old mouse, even after I changed the battery, so finally I got a new mouse about a month ago... and now it's happening again.

I have a 21.5" iMac bought in November 2009. I am having a strange happening with it. I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.

starting last week, randomly all the files will be gone. all applications installed will still be there, but every file the user has ever created will disappear completely. We have Crashplan running backup constantly, so we are able to restore the files, but a few days later, all the files will be gone again and we have to restore again. by gone I mean completely gone. search for any file and it doesn't exist. eerything on the desktop or in any folders (the folders are gone too.) all the programs will be there and be unable to find any recent saves.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI seem to have the following problem. not sure exactly how it started as my wife was using the mac at the time (she says she just dragged the safari to different desktop via mission control) but now the situation is as follows:
When I hit safari icon it switches on (I can see the little light dot underneath the icon and after right click I can see names of windows that are opened) however I can only see the Safari menu at the top but no window. If I scroll to the right or left to different desktops it's not there, the same goes if I double tap to see the Mission Control mode it's not there...
I so far figured out that once the Safari menu is visible on top of the screen I can go to View>Enter Full Screen and then Safari will come back into the full screen mode but once I unclick the full screen button in right top corner the whole window just swoops into the right top corner and it's nowhere to be found again.

Can anyone explain to me why, on my iMac's 500GB hard drive, the displayed size of the only 4 items on it is 207GB, that the info box on the HD itself says 393GB used? Unless I failed grade 1 math, 500GB - 207GB = 293GB, right? So where's the missing ~100GB? That's a lot of space I know I haven't filled up.Â

I have seen several threads on the Internet but never an answer to the noise problem Imacs seem to have when in sleep mode. We have an Imac, 27' 10.6.5 2TB bought this summer, in the bedroom which we use as a TV. When we go to sleep we put the Imac to sleep as well with the remote and the ZZZ on the screen. During the night however the Imac fan or harddisk starts to spin as if the whole thing is going to startup but then it winds down again and it does this every hour or so. It is so loud that it wakes us up. Some nights it does it some nights it doesn't. Before we actually had the screen come on too but now it doesn't do that anymore.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery morning when I turn on my new imac, the fan starts and won't stop. The only way to turn it off is to shut it down again and restart. Seems to work, but wanted to know if there is a way to make the fan taper off instead of having to constantly turn off my computer .
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ask because I'm using remote tap on iPhone to remote into my iMac when I'm away. It sleeps it and wakes it just fine remotely. But when it's asleep too long, remote tap will fail to wake it, and the only thing that will wake it is if I hit a button on the keyboard or mouse. Is there a way to just keep it in normal sleep(?) or something?

My iMac doesn't turn off in the normal way any more. The system shuts down and the screen becomes black, but the fan keeps on running. And it deosn't stop! The only way to completely shut down everything is to hold the powerbutton.
I already have reinstalled Lion, but the problem is still prensent. I've got this iMac for around 6 months now, but this problem occured around 2 weeks ago. Before everything has been all right.
