OS X :: Transferring Large Zip File To Memory Stick
Jul 6, 2009
I have a 8gb memory stick and want to transfer my 5gb zip file to it but I get error code 0. I read this is because my zip file is too big in FAT format and that if I change it to ntsf or something I'll be able to transfer it.
1. How do I change it into ntsf format
2. What should I download to write into the ntsf format memory stick on my mac.

Here is my situation... I have a file on my macbook pro that is an .iso file that is 5.5 GB big... I want to move it to my desktop PC so I can use the file.. I have a external hard drive, but i get the "error code 0" thing when I try and move it over, which now i know is because its in a FAT32 format....
Are there any solutions, or any other ways that I can transfer this file to my desktop PC?

I just bought an 8 gig memory stick - that was advertised as being PC & Mac compatible. I put it in and it loaded fine. But when I tried to copy a file to it - it told me that the file name was too long. The name wasn't that long so I renamed it '1.jpg' - but got the same response. I tried other files and go the same. So I launched 'Disk Utility' and reformatted it using the 'Mac OS Extended (journaled) option. This worked fine. But this time when I tries to copy any files, it told me that the operation could not be completed because I did not have sufficient privileges to do this.

Using a newly purchased Sony DCR-SR47 Handycam, I am attempting to import the still images from the Memory Stick Pro Duo (preferably into iPhoto). Using the Sony instructions provided here [URL]... when I open the file all I see are MEMSTICK.IND and MSTK_PRO.IND. Unfortunately when I attempt to open files with the .ind extension it comes up as an unrecognizable format. The images are viewable on the camcorder but I can't seem to open the file.

I've noticed something: when I use 'view info' on files on my usb memory stick, the file size is much bigger than when I use it on the same file on the desktop.
For example: I've got a gif file on my memory stick. Using 'view info' on that file it says: Size: 32 KB on drive (7.129 bytes)
When I copy that same file on my desktop it says:
Size: 8 KB on drive (7.129 bytes)
Which makes more sense. Why does it give 32 KB for a 7.129 bytes file when I vied the info on that file on a usb memory stick? It does that with all files on usb drives. The 7.129 bytes in this case seems to be the true file size, but for some reason 'view info' adds a significant file size to it.

I needed to make 40 dvd's. My burner is burnt out on my mac. I've created all the dvd's as iso files with iDVD. Now I need to transfer them to my PC that has a functioning burner. SOOOO... transferring 81.5 GB of data over a network will take days. Having said that, I'm using an unsecured network that drops out frequently. (I just moved in, it'll be weeks until the phone company can hook up my internet... we just had a hurricane and they're busy with repairs). Next idea, use a flash drive. Most of the iso files are bigger than 4Gb - so FAT32 is out. What's left?
which sounds promising, but once the files are split, how do I join them back together on my PC? Oh, and did I mention that this job is for a client and they're waiting on it. STRESS!!

My company started to use encryption software on our computers in work. They use PeeCee, I have an iMac 3.2GHz Intel. I bought a 16GB Tough N Tiny Verbatim Memory Stick. The encryption software used was TrueCrypt as you can use it both on Mac and PeeCee. Â The problem is I can see my memory stick on a PeeCee but not on my Mac. The IT is indifferent to my issue. He reformatted the stick a number of times. Says it comes up on the Mac in his workshop, however, it doesn't come up on every Mac computer in work. And more importantly it doesn't come up on my Mac. Â
I have reformatted to FAT32, reformatted to Mac, given it to the IT guyS!!, updated all software on all computers, I've used terminal to locate it, I've used Disk Utility to locate it. is it my Mac's fault (other memory sticks come up), is it my sticks fault (it did work once, and works on all PeeCee and some Macs), should I burn it and buy a new one (theres nothing of any importance on it?

I'd like to transfer large amounts of data over the internet from my MacBook Air to my Mac Mini Server. Both are running 10.7. The Mac Mini Server is running 10.7 Server. I'd like to transfer 10GB + back to the server. How to setup server to better transfer files this way? Is there a way to setup FTP within OS X Server settings, or is there a way in File Sharing settings that I could accomplish this?

Sometimes hear things of Macs supporting more memory than listed, so I was curious about my Powerbook. 12-inch Powerbook G4 1.5 GHZ. I have the specified limit of 1.25 GB. Has anyone here ever tried a 2 GB stick in it? Doesn't work?

I've partitioned my 8GB USB memory stick using Disk Utility in Snow Leopard and gave it the format of MS-DOS(FAT). It completes successfully, and works within Snow Leopard however when I plug it into Windows, it says its unformatted and needs formatting. It only gives me the option to format 200MB!!! What is going on? I know formatting more than 2GB in FAT is impossible or something but I did it with my external HDD and it works perfectly in Windows.

I just recently purchase a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. It came with 1GB (512 x 2 sticks)of memory, I purchase 8GB (4GB x 2 sticks) of ram for it. I checked to make sure I have a total of 9Gb of ram. However, recently I found out sometime my Mac Pro only recognized a total of 5 GB of ram, when this happen, in Hardware Profile it always appear that I have 2 sticks of 512MB ram and 2 sticks of 2GB ram, instead of 4GB. Restarting sometimes solve the problem, but sometime it still won't help.
Did I do anything wrong? (I put a pair on tray A and the other pair on tray B, I also tried to switch them, which seems to reduce the times this happen, but still not completely avoid it). Or is there something wrong with the ram? (But this should not be true because after reboot most of the time it will correctly shows 9GB of ram in total). All the stick is always recognized, just the those 4GB sticks are sometime recognized as 2GB.

I have an iMac G3 500 and I bought a 4GB memory stick for it, but when I plug it in it doesn't appear. Is it an incompatibility with the hardware? Is it usb 1.1 in general? Its running os 10.4 so it could be the os as well, but I don't think so. I know its not the memory stick because I tested it on another computer. And yes I tried the keyboard ports and the ones on the machine itself.

I am trying to transfer a large file (~7GB) from my macbook pro to my external drive... but seems that I keep getting an error. If I try to drag and drop from my Mac drive to the folder of my external hard drive I keep getting this message: 'The operation can?t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0).' I tried to use a UNIX command with the Terminal $mv file.xxx /Volumes/HardDrive/ at first it seemed to work, but after a while I receive this message from the Terminal: 'File too large' I am now frustrated... I need to save this large file for backup purposes and my external hard drive is not big enough to be used for Time Machine (it has 80GB out of 160 of space left)

I've just come across this product at belkin. A 16 GB solid state drive, that flush fits in the express-port of the MBP.
Does this mean, that you can use this as a typical SSD if it is left in the port at all does? Running apps and stuff directly from this? Or is it just a fast type of memory-stick?

I am just wondering if it would be possible to run a game off of a USB memory stick. The game is approximately 600mb and very old (fallout 2 for mac), and I have very little computer knowledge. I'm used to PCs, but even then I'm no whiz. I absolutely cant install the game to my hard drive, as my flat-mate, who owns the computer is very touchy about me installing things or using memory.

I have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.2. I eject my memory stick by highlighting it in the finder the selecting File - Eject. The memory stick icon then disappears from the Finder but the light on the stick is still on. As I selected eject I remove the stick anyway. The next time I insert the stick I am told that I did not eject it properly.

I am literally less then a week into being a mac user, so forgive me if I come across as a little ignorant. I'm using Leopard and a 500gb Imac [I don't know if this makes much of a difference? I was using a 4gb Kingston usb stick to move files from my old pc to the new Imac and made the mistake of not ejecting properly since then every time I insert I get "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I've googled and googled trying to find some way to fix it and so far nothing.
It does appear in disk utilities as "generic flash 2.0 media" and i have tried to reformat it, I erased as MS - DOS and then even tried to partition I've tried Master boot record & guid partition table both under MS -DOS [I really need to be able to use on windows as well as mac] underneath it continually says Unformatted beside partition map scheme. I've also tried to reformat using windows in the hope it might bring it back to life, again nothing - so I'm beginning to wonder have I just got a dud memory stick? I have a Kingston 1gb stick and when its inserted it appears as "Kingston" under disk utilities.
