Nine times out of ten, when I wake my Imac from sleep, I get a notification that Safari stopped my shut-down (?) and then a second one asking if I'm sure I want to close the open Safari windows. Also, if Itunes was open when I put the machine to sleep, it's almost always closed when I wake it up.
View 2 Replies2010 iMac running 10.9.4. Lately certain programs are forced to close on a regular basis. This includes Safari, Mail, Crashplan. It usually happens when the computer is sleeping. When I wake up the computer first thing in the morning, I usually have 3 - 4 messages saying that certain programs were forced to restart. This can also sometimes occur when the computer is not sleeping, but when I am using it. Typically it's Safari that is forced to restart. Â
Recently upgraded RAM and added Crashplan software for data backup. Â

what the difference is between the commands 'close window' and 'close all windows'? They seem to me to both have the same effect. In my earlier version of Safari, if I opened a new web page, it just replaced the earlier one, now though the new pages just keep accumulating. T

Is there someway I can make it sleep only if it's been closed for like 1 minute or something?
I switch rooms sometimes and want to close it to take to the next room without going to sleep and signing off the internet and ichat and stuff...
I close my laptop for short periods of time (going to the bathroom, making food, etc.) and it's kinda odd how Apple doesn't let you do this seemingly basic thing.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden, my MacBook Pro has stopped going to sleep when I close the lid. Instead, the indicator light on the front stays on steadily. When I then open the lid, I am asked to log in again, but before I can type anything, the window goes completely black. My only choice at this point has been to hold the power button down long enough to shut the laptop off. Then I wait a minute or so before restarting. Is there a setting I need to check to prevent all of this from happening? I have tried restarting in Safe Mode, then restarting normally, but still the laptop will not go to sleep when I close the lid.

Normaly it goes to sleep, when I close the Lid, but suddently this function stopped. That means that Mac'en still is running and become warm, during transport.

I'm a Mac Pro guy and this is my first Mac laptop. How do I make it so nothing happens when I close the lid? Not using external display or anything. Sometimes it's just nice to be able to close the laptop when moving from place to place, I just don't see the need to sleep the machine when I do so. I do this on my Acer laptop all the time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was anyway that I could get my Dell E173FP monitor to sleep when I close the lid to my macbook pro. I do not have it on mirroring mode. When I close the lid to my laptop it will just switch my desktop to the monitor instead of the monitor going to sleep with my macbook. When I press the power button and click sleep or go to the apple menu and click sleep it will work though. This really irritates me and I would like It to sleep when I close the lid instead of having to do more.

MBP/Lion - I'm using my MBP in dual monitor mode with an external monitor and power supply connected. If I close the lid and then disconnect the monitor, my MBP won't wake after opening the lid. I know that with Lion a change was made and the power stays on with an external monitor attached and the lid closed (with the adapter plugged in), but if you unplug the display, there doesn't seem a way out of this state. Even plugging the monitor back in, the display wont refresh In this state the power managment is confused. When closed, the power light is on, with the lid opened the power light goes off, the display remains blank and I can't wake the device. The only solution is to re-boot. as I just want to close the lid, unplug power and the monitor and leave work to go home. I end up running the battery down if I don't catch it before putting the MBP in my bag, and I always have to reboot.

Ever since I have updated my Macbook Pro to the newest version of OS, it will go into a sleep mode when I close the lid that I can only wake with powering off the entire computer. I used to be able to close the lid for the night, open it in the morning, and it would be like I never even left it overnight. Now I try to wake it up with pushing everything possible. Is this new to the update? I even tried to set the settings to "never sleep".

I recently notice that whenever i close my macbook the fan would kick in while in sleep mode. in addition because of the usage of the fan while in sleep mode my battery consumption diminishes very quickly. also after i open it up the macbook is frozen (the screen does not come on and i must restart manually). ive had my macbook for about 2 year and have gone through about 240 battery cycles.

I have a problem with my Mid-2012 non-Retina MBP. When I close the lid, it takes around 4 minutes for the light indicator to dim and it's not safe to move the machine as it's probably doing something and it's HDD is probably still spinning. It's not like this for my friend's machine, even though it's an older machine.Â

I was wondering if i need to turn off / close the switch on the bottom of the wireless mighty mouse when my MBP is in sleep mode....it seems that when i don't the mouse still connects and the screen kicks back on for a few seconds.....not sure if this is the case, but the logo on the outside of the case lights back up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy copy of Safari keeps resetting every time I close it. I lose bookmarks, history and extensions. This started in Leopard. It keeps giving me the copy I get after a fresh install of Safari, with the default bookmark tabs, every time i open it.
I deleted Safari using AppCleaner, then I reinstalled Safari after downloading it from Apple, both before and after the upgrade to Snow Leopard, all the way to 10.6.4. I have fixed and repaired permissions. Completely baffled. Only extension I use is clicktoFlash. Happens even if no extension installed. Examined plist file, keeps defaulting to the copy on first install.
I find Firefox too slow and Chrome still needs work. I loved Safari until this started happening. Just want it to keep my bookmarks and tabs after each open.
My Mac is not shutting down, it says I need to close Safari. Quit Safari is grayed out when attempting to Quit.

This is not a crash, as I get no message. Every time I am done browsing, I close the window, and when I want to reopen a window, I have to relaunch Safari. Usually, the screensaver has started when I come back to my computer, but it has happened while my computer was active also.
