Jun 14, 2012I'll be moving to iCloud on a new iMac running 10.7 soon. My main email is a mac.com address and my wife and daughter each have an 'email only' account associated with that. We need all those to continue to work. Does it matter which account we move first? I am worried something might get lost if we move the wrong one first. They are both running older macs so won't be able to get full icloud, but only need access to email at the moment.
Also, I currenty use use entourage and collect email using POP - I gather this will no longer be possible and I'll have to use IMAP, which I'm not familiar with - anything I need to bear in mind making that change? I'm currently in two minds whether to move to Mail or Outlook

May 30, 2012I have an icloud account which I use for personal use. We recently bought an ipad for the family and set up an icloud to be used for family viewing. I added to my mac the new account (lets call it it '[url]...') but it seems to be moving all the [url]... mail into my personal one on my mac. Since this is suppose to be family, I was hoping to have the email stay with the [url]... so both my husband I could monitor it. However, since my mac is merging it, it is deleted from ipad we share.
Is there anyone to set the mail preferences on my mac so the email stays with the [url]... account? I have tried all the preferences but not finding a way to keep the mail at [url]....

ICloud :: Unable To Access Mac.com Email Through It?
Apr 4, 2012I have a mac.com account and I've just started having problems logging in and checking my in-box. The issue arose yesterday afternoon (3/4/12) and I'm currently unable to receive email from my mac.com account on my macbook, iPhone or through iCloud. This is what happens when I try to access my account on each device or application: When I try to access my email though the mail client on my macbook this message appears. "The iCloud IMAP server “p02-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “helenlryan1” Enter your password again or cancel. I enter my password and it is rejected. This has never happened before and now my account is 'offline" My account details are the same and I've not changed them. I migrated my MobileMe account over to iCould on 30 March and upgraded to Lion on 31 March.. When I open my mail account in iCloud a message appears telling me: 'There was a problem loading the application due to possible network error or missing resources. Please try again" I currently have no access to my email.

May 14, 2012After updating to System 10.7.4, I can't access my iCloud email account on any of my devices (computer and iPhone 4S). The servers are not recognizing my email password, which is the same as my Apple ID password. I can log in to iCloud using Safari and access all of my other information (contacts, etc.), but not email. I tried going to Keychain Access and found that my old MobileMe password was correct (now my iCloud and Apple ID password), but the "application password" associated with my email account (which is now my iCloud email account) had been switched to a long string of nonsense. I tried changing that string to my actual apple ID password, but the system changed it back to the nonsense string.

The server for account 'iCloud' returned the error 'Authentication failed.' Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?" Reentering the password seems to have no effect and the above message repeats itself.

Dec 7, 2010I'm the administrator of my computer, but I want to create an account similar to the guest account, one which does not have access to my own home folder, files, etc. Unlike the guest account, I don't want all the files and preferences to be deleted upon logging out.
Pretty much a separate account, completely unrelated to the administrator account.

Jun 28, 2010Nobody else is talking about this problem so maybe it is not so widespread, but 3 of us cannot download any apps or access our accounts on iTunes right now (we have 3 separate computers with 3 separate accounts and separate devices). iTunes is giving the error "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was lost. There was an error in the iTunes Store, please try your request again later" and we are completely unable to log in. When we try to download apps on our devices (iPhone 4.0, iPhone 3GS and iPad WiFi + 3G) it gives us a "waiting" status bar by the app and just never loads. Or is the iTunes store / App store actually down right now? Using OS X on iMac (late 2009) and the latest version of iTunes for Mac.

May 25, 2012I cannot access the Accounts pane from System Preferences. Each time I click on the icon, I get a message that says "system preferences has quit unexpectedly. I've already repaired the permission, deleted system preferences plist, installed the combo update and logged in as a different user. Everything else works just fine.

May 15, 2009In Mail, when you add an account, why does it take so ridiculously long to verify with no way to skip verification? At first I thought this was just my system but I've now had a friend ask me why it's so slow (took 17 minutes) and he's on a different ISP and everything. This means that 100% of the computers I've seen take an unacceptably long time to verify the account. This problem only appears to affect Apple Mail. I find it hard to believe that Apple could release something this bad, so I have two questions:
1. Is this normal?
2. Why does it happen?

Aug 25, 2010I recently bought a WD Passport Essential to back up my Macbook. When I plugged in the WD Passport, my Mac asked if I want to use this storage device for my Time Machine.
1. Should I use the WD Passport as the Time Machine storage device or use the WD Passport software to run back-ups?
2. If I use it for my Time Machine, will I be able to access my files on other machines?
3. Is it possible to have files stored on the WD Passport, such as photos, but not have those files on my Macbook... if I am using the Passport for back-ups?
OS X Mavericks :: New Logic Board / Can't Access Mail Accounts
Dec 3, 2014I just got my MacBook Pro (late 2011/Mavericks) back from a covered Apple repair. It now has a new logic board, and although most other things seem to work ok, I cannot log in to either of my Mail accounts (or to the C-panel of my website, where one of those accounts is located), either by using the existing password entries in MAIL preferences, or by entering the passwords manually. How do I get this to reset so that I can access my mail?

Sep 10, 2014In my home machine I have several email accounts. I have a wife, two company accounts, and 4 young kids and each of them has is own account
Still they all look like as follows
My Name <mywife@mac.com>
My Name<sonaccount@mac.com>
and so on
As my kids receive emails, when they want to reply they would like to have their name in the header as this
mywife <mywife@mac.com>
sonaccount <sonaccount@mac.com>
In the Mail preferences the names are grey and cannot be modified
Before iCloud this was easy to do, but how to do so in the latest version of Mavericks?
I can no longer use one of my accounts. What happens when I try to add it to Mavericks Mail it recognises the log and pass as correct, however the Mail option is not available.
Trying to enter the mail box from SAFARI the iCloud,com website recognises my log and pass, clicking on the MAIL option it asks me to enter the log and pass again, doing so it tells me that log is already taken
I don't understand how this is possible as these are all paid account for well over a decade and I am already correctly in my iCloud account.
