I've just bought a pretty nifty Mac Pro custom system (spec is on my signature) and want to run Microsoft Flight Simulator X at the maximum settings possible. Two questions :
1. Would a Mac of my spec be capable of running FSX on maximum settings?
I have been having bad problems with my PB 17" and will probably sell it and my MB to get a 2.4Ghz. 15" MBP.
I also play Microsoft Flight Simulator X on my MB w/bootcamp. This game is very taxing on the 2GB of Ram and the pitiful integrated Intel GMA X3100 "graphics processor", which gets around 10fps. This game is still usable with this computer, but I want to know a few things...
1. For people who use this game on any Intel Macintosh, what FPS do you get?
2. Would getting the 2.66Ghz. MBP w/512MB of VRAM be way better than the base 2.4 MBP with only 256MB of non-shared VRAM?
3. If I get the 15" MBP, what is the best way to move the Bootcamp partition with the games to the MBP from the MB? (the FSX game folder is around 35-40GB in size because of all the add-ons)
So i have just installed Microsoft Flight Simulator X on the bootcamp partition on the very latest white macbook before the uni-body ones were released and i am amazed!
The games works far better than on any genuine desktop or laptop PC i have ever played it on. The graphics are smoother with better FPS and the game is generally a lot faster and generally better. My mac just keeps impressing me!
I was just wondering if anybody else on here is a Flight Simulator X fan and if you're playing it on a mac? If you are, let me know!
I just pulled out my old Flight Simulator X out of a box in my closet. I put it in my brother's Dell to test it out and I got back into loving planes.
I'd like to install it on my Mac. I currently own Parallels Desktop and I have Wineskin. I'd prefer not to use Parallels but if it was my only option I'd go there.
I use Wineskin for running a couple PC games but the guy who makes the wrappers [URL] doesn't make one for FSX so I'd have to make my own wrapper.
I have a Mid-2011 MacBook with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB hard drive, and a NVIDIA GeForce 320M with 256MB.

Unfortunately, the ONLY way to play Flight Sim X, 2004, 2002, etc. is with Windows installed. I have a partition with Windows on my MBP (15", 2.2, 128m VRAM)...but it isn't nearly powerful enough on the GPU to play the sim.
I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of an updated IMac with a fresh approach to graphics (NVidia card), but I'm getting anxious and ready to pull the trigger.
I also have Final Cut Pro 2 and Logic Pro that I will be using on the machine so I know I should be looking at a MacPro regardless...my big problem is self control on the MacPro configuration site...I get my computer up to seven or eight large without a monitor
On a serious note though...I am curious if any others have run Microsoft Flight Sims on a Boot Camp partition (Windows) on one of the new MacPros, especially with the 8800 cards?
I Would like to install a Windows OS for gaming etc....? What version do you guys recommend? in particular would like to install Flight Sim X with Add-ons, and other various ongoing enhancements. I am curious about downloading Windows 7 RC 64 bit, what do you think? Otherwise will purchase Vista Home Prem 64 bit. Does anyone have experience running Windows 7 and Flight Sim X etc?

I burned numerous dvd's with my old Toshiba laptop for all of my videos and such with Windows XP. Now after my Toshiba crapped out and I switched to a Mac I was wondering why when I put the DVD into the laptop (MacBook Pro Intel processor) why I can only see the name of the dvd and not the contents. I hope someone can help me since I hate having to boot up Windows in Parallels and then play using Windows or drag it to my mac partition since this takes time and I just really hate having to see Windows load on my Mac. Anyones help is greatly appreciated.
View 1 Replies View Relatedplaying games through bootcamp. Especially with Call of Duty 4. It freezes up constantly in the menus and just has lots of problems. Some games wont run at all in bootcamp, but the odd thing is that all these problems don't ever occur when I open the games in Parallels. Granted frame rates are a lot lower of course, but the games function fine. also noticed when playing Modern Warfare 2 today with my friend, my macbook pro blows his HP out of the water when comparing the in-game Frame rates and graphics, but his menus and loading screens go sooo much faster.

However, when I started the game, at the opening video, the video seems to having some noticeable lagging especially towards the end of the video. However supposingly the 2.66 MBP won't have such problem is it? Or do I need to install any extra driver (eg, GPU) for smooth gaming in bootcamp?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi bought a imac 27" quad core i5, and like in my previous imac 20" i created a partition to play my games in bootcamp...but this time i installed the W7 64bit ( used the trick command promt on instalation to del c:windowssystem32driversatikmdag.sys if im not mistaken, to get the screen to work and finnish the instalation ) did everything by the book, installed drivers from OS X dvd, then bootcamp 3.1.
But all my games ( pes 2010, resident evil 5 and OF dragon rising) dont work! the only one that works is company of heroes ( 2006? ) PES 2010 installs but when start .exe gave me a message ( doesn't work on 64bit OS only 32bit ) the other 2 don-t even let me install them appearing the same message of incompatibility...so...i installed W7 32bit ultimate...now the messages didnt show, instead, a black window ( look like DOS ) appears and disappears in a sec, in PES after instalation, when trying to run the game, on the other 2, on the attempt to install the games just like in the 64bit version. i rolled back to what i thought it would work, since i know there are some issues with W7 and imac, the XP SP3! with same results on W7 32bit...pops a window like DOS, for a milisec, and disappears.
My old PC broke and I had someone recover the data of the harddrive for me, he told me he would recover the data so it worked on Macs. All the music, songs etc are working, however the videos are not working. The videos are in '.avi' and some are in '.mpg'
When I try to open them it says "the document "DOCUMENTNAME.MPG" could not be opened. A required codec isnt available.." There is a button that says tell me more, when I press it, it takes me to this page, [URL]which doesnt make a lot of sense to me. Would someone help me open and save my files in the correct format!?

When i plug it in it says a device has been plugged into the audio jack and when i go into it, it brings up the line in tab, so just wondering if there was a solution yet or do we just have to put up with inbuilt speakers on our macs?
What is the Best way to play PC only games on a mac. From what I have read I assume Boot Camp is the best, but am not quite sure. If I wanted to go the virtualization route, which would be better for gaming, VMware Fusion or Parallels?

Anyway these is an issue, when I play a game on Windows it crashes the machine, the screen goes blank (I have a Dell monitor and it powers down) and I have to restart the machine. The audio crashes (if I am in a racing game the engine note stays constant).

The audio on my Mac Pro 2008 will play out of the front speaker but will not through my Klipsch 2.1 system. I checked and rechecked to make sure I have the audio cord plugged into Audio Out on the back of the Mac. When using OSX the audio plays just fine through my 2.1 system.
Any ideas on what I can do to troubleshoot the issue?
I have successfully transferred all my music from windows to my new iMac, but I am unable to drag and drop them into iTunes. I was told before purchasing that this would be no problem. I can play all the tracks individually but it uses Quicktime to play them. Am I missing something? How can I get them across to iTunes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was able to get Windows 7 running on my 1st gen MBA, with everything working except the wireless (but have found driver that I will test soon). Battery life is as good if not better than OS X, boot times are quicker than OS X and the MBA doesn't appear to get anywhere near as hot as it does in OS X when idling. CPU usage is 0-1% on idle but soon whacks up when screen grab is used, youttube CPU requirements are very low (which is to be expected) also even though this is pre beta the OS feels incredibly smooth, I have attached some screen shots below. I also installed on my iMac and the only things to report there are that sound and wireless require 3rd party drivers (as with MBA) and it refuses to play Blu-Rays or HD-DVDs no matter which powerdvd you use, (the blu-ray/hd-dvd drive is a sata device connected y a sata to usb adapter...) it simply says 'cannot recognise the format' even though windows know its a blu-ray and i can go and explore files on the disk. anyway here are photos and I will also try and make a video at some point:
