Windows On Mac :: Trying To Increase Bootcamp Partition Size?

Nov 18, 2010

Here is my situation. So I am wanting to increase the size of my Bootcamp partition from 5gb (for some reason I didn't pay attention and it was set to 5gb as the default the first go around) to around 7 or 8gb.

Windows On Mac :: How To Increase Partition Size

Apr 1, 2007

I'm prepping to install Vista over XP (my friend says I'm downgrading, which I probably am). As I noted in an earlier post, I need to give more space to my Windows partition. Does this sequence look OK to you guys?

1. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.

2. Defragment "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME".

3. Use GParted or iPartition (on LiveCDs) to see how much space is left between the two partitions.

4. Boot in to Mac OS X on "Macintosh HD". Use diskutil to shrink "Macintosh HD".

5. Boot from GParted LiveCD. Use GParted to move and expand "NO NAME", remembering the buffer between partitions as determined in step 3.

6. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.

7. Install Vista and pray I don't run out of space...

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Partition Size For XP

Mar 14, 2009

For my MacBook Pro with 320Gb hdd, I chose to do the bootcamp partition for 32Gb and not divide half for it, however, when I now realized that my disk space for bootcamp has used up more than 17Gb, and now it doesn't even have enough disk space for a single game. I do not want to sacrifice half of the disk space for windows, how am I going to deal with this problem as it only allows me to choose between 32Gb and divide equally? Any better solution beside repartitioning again

Windows On Mac :: Shrunk BootCamp Partition - Size Inconsistencies

Oct 30, 2010

I realize there's lots of info on this, including a guide on this site. I want to shrink my bootcamp partition and put it back to my Mackintosh HD partition. I've read through everything, and ended up using Disk Management in Vista to shrink the volume. I then booted OSX and used Disk Utility to allocate the free space to the Mac partition.

It seems to have worked, but there are size inconsistencies when looking at the disk size and space available in Disk Utility, Get Info, and Disk Management in Windows. Some of them show the new numbers, some show the old numbers. Additionally, when I ran Time Machine it backed up the entire HD again instead of just an incremental backup.

I'm using a MBP 2.53 w/ 9600, and installed Windows 7 RC 64bit. What happened? How can I see what's taking up all that space?

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Create Partition / Restoring BootCamp Image To Partition?

Nov 11, 2010

I recently made a clone of my Windows XP Pro SP3 installation (its roughly about 14GB according to Finder/WinClone) so i made a 80GB partition on my 320GB drive and it gives me this error message:

the WinClone came from a 500GB internal drive and ive gotten winclone images to restore to a MBP before but not sure why its giving me this error code, anyway to restore the image to the new partition (which was created with Bootcamp) as i no longer have access to the old machine it was running on.

Windows On Mac :: Won't Work With Additional Partition / Enlarging BootCamp Partition

Aug 31, 2010

So my iMac came with a 1TB hard drive and I installed Windows 7 x64 but only gave it some 93GB. I have a two-prong question:

Can I add a third partition to my drive after I partition for BootCamp? My main partition ("Macintosh HD" by default) is over 900GB large and I'd really like to cut that up into 2x450GB, for example, in addition to the 93GB BootCamp partition.

Second, once partitioned, is it possible to resize the BootCamp partition to make it bigger after it has been set up?

Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Partition - Vista NOT Installed - Partition Gone

Aug 5, 2009

I have a 13" MBP with a 250 gb hd, I partitioned the HD 25gb for Windows XP shortly after I bought it. I was unable to install my copy of windows, contacted apple after exhaustive search as to why... Long story short, I now have Vista to install... When I went back to Boot Camp Assistant; partition was gone. Researched... ran disk utility, repaired and erased partition. Bootcamp HD now shows up in desktop, still not in bootcamp assistant. Since I am unable to locate in assistant; would there be any problems with just installing Vista off the install disk by restarting? Any ideas what to do if this is not a good idea (short of restoring)?

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Fails To Make BootCamp Partition

Jan 23, 2009

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.

I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

OS X :: Determining Appropriate Windows 7 Partition Size?

Dec 24, 2009

I am a relatively new "Mac convert" -- approx 3 months. I have a MacBook Pro 13", 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB Internal HD, two 500GB external drives and I am running OS X 10.6.2. Bootcamp is ver 3.0.1.

I am preparing to install Windows 7 so I can utilize a few of my old Windows program. The Windows programs will, most probably, be limited to Micorsoft Office Outlook, ActiveSync, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premier Elements. What would be a recommended, or optimal, Windows partition size to accommodate the mentioned programs and still give me some "spare" space if I decide to add a couple of more Windows programs to the list.
