I heard from multiple Youtube videos and walkthroughs that said that Windows took 4gb, so I made a 24gb partition. After installation, I go to "Computer" (c: drive), and it says 9gbs free of 24gbs.
I'm using a MBP 2.53 w/ 9600, and installed Windows 7 RC 64bit. What happened? How can I see what's taking up all that space?
i read may post about this but still do not have a solid answer. Will 20GB partition be fine with my Macbook Air SSD drive ?
I only plan on installing a antivirus software and thats about it, maybe 1 program.
I just got my new Mac Pro set up and am going to install Vista via Bootcamp. I'm just wondering what size partition people use. I'm thinking 60 GB on a 320 GB drive. I would only use it sparingly. Mostly for a select few programs that I may still need to use on a PC.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI'm prepping to install Vista over XP (my friend says I'm downgrading, which I probably am). As I noted in an earlier post, I need to give more space to my Windows partition. Does this sequence look OK to you guys?
1. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.
2. Defragment "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME".
3. Use GParted or iPartition (on LiveCDs) to see how much space is left between the two partitions.
4. Boot in to Mac OS X on "Macintosh HD". Use diskutil to shrink "Macintosh HD".
5. Boot from GParted LiveCD. Use GParted to move and expand "NO NAME", remembering the buffer between partitions as determined in step 3.
6. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.
7. Install Vista and pray I don't run out of space...
I recently used boot camp to install windows on my intel iMac. It all worked great, but now I'd like to give it more hard drive space on it's partition. Is there any way to change the partition size without having to erase the partition and start over?
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor my MacBook Pro with 320Gb hdd, I chose to do the bootcamp partition for 32Gb and not divide half for it, however, when I now realized that my disk space for bootcamp has used up more than 17Gb, and now it doesn't even have enough disk space for a single game. I do not want to sacrifice half of the disk space for windows, how am I going to deal with this problem as it only allows me to choose between 32Gb and divide equally? Any better solution beside repartitioning again

I am preparing to install Windows 7 so I can utilize a few of my old Windows program. The Windows programs will, most probably, be limited to Micorsoft Office Outlook, ActiveSync, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premier Elements. What would be a recommended, or optimal, Windows partition size to accommodate the mentioned programs and still give me some "spare" space if I decide to add a couple of more Windows programs to the list.

While looking at what to move onto the new smaller SSD I noted that VM Ware had my virtual machine partitioned to 20 G. The settings in VM Ware however wouldn't let me shrink it to a smaller size. It said that 20 G was a minimum. I'm only actually using about 10G and would like to free up some more space on the smaller SSD. Does anyone know how I might do this if it is even possible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI realize there's lots of info on this, including a guide on this site. I want to shrink my bootcamp partition and put it back to my Mackintosh HD partition. I've read through everything, and ended up using Disk Management in Vista to shrink the volume. I then booted OSX and used Disk Utility to allocate the free space to the Mac partition.
It seems to have worked, but there are size inconsistencies when looking at the disk size and space available in Disk Utility, Get Info, and Disk Management in Windows. Some of them show the new numbers, some show the old numbers. Additionally, when I ran Time Machine it backed up the entire HD again instead of just an incremental backup.
I've checked out this link and I'm downloading GParted Live in the hope that it will allow me to reduce the size of my current 32GB Boot Camp partition that has Windows 7 installed on it.
I'm shrinking the partition because I never use Windows, I just have it installed in case I need it at some point. And I got a free copy from my University, so why not?
I just have a few questions before I dive in to this;
Will GParted be able to shrink my partition to a size of about 8GB or 16GB?
Will it corrupt any of the Windows 7 OS in the process?

i'm on unibody macbook pro running 50gb of Windows 7, i'm running out of space right now and I'm thinking to extend it to 70-80gb to install more games on it.

I changed my partition size firstly from (full disk size) about 160GB to 80GBs in order to create a new one which was another 80GBs after that I decided to just leave this 160GB and one partition, so I did what I decided, but now there is a problem. I did everything under Installation CD and than it shows in Disk Tool that the partition is 160GB on diagrams but under it it shows: total size 80GB... and the same is when I launching Snow Leopard. I'm clicking Macintosh HD and informations than it shows total size: 80GB, I tried to change again partition sizes but it does nothing, I cannot do anything under Mac OS and bootable installation disc. I'm completely stuck it shows, always and always that "Spliting in to partitions finished due an error - could not modficate partition's map".

But, for some reason the file size shown in iTunes is 47.66GB whereas Finder says my iTunes Music folder is 50.38GB
I purchased Xslimmer recently,and I've just notice a big issue. In Xslimmer, it says the current size of the app is say 20 mb, but Finder says it is 50 mb. Same thing after I slim it. I checked on a different computer, and it said the same thing. Could someone check the filesize of Mail.app in Finder (mine was 77.4 mb), and the current size in XSlimmer (said it was 25.5mb).

I had originally decided on a 17inch MBP but now I'm leaning towards getting a smaller MBP and a new iMac. I'm not looking top of the line but I would like to be able to play WOW on occasion and do some on the road photo stuff (but nothing to the level of pixel peeping). I'm looking at the faster of the 2 13 inch MBP variations versus a 15 inch with the same basic specs. What I'm worried about is the 13 inch having enough horsepower to do the simple photo and games that I'd like it to do.
Right now I have basically the same setup that I'm looking at doing again. A 20 inch iMac G5 and 12.1 inch iBook G4 both bought last half of 2005 (just after the iBook was updated - remember my order was delayed waiting on the new specs). The iMac can run WOW fairly well BTW, just lag evident in the trade district in SW.

I used Boot Camp to put XP on my iMac. If I get Parallels, will it be able to give me access to the files that are on the currently existing XP partition?
Or will I have to re-install XP onto the Mac partition and transfer all my files from the old Boot Camp XP to the new Parallels XP?
When I open Finder , the window is often too narrow to view all my icons and i have to either resize and realign the icons or use my scroll wheel to find a file. I would like to be able to set a default size so the windows open wider than the preset. How do i do that.
